Join me for a REAL PEOPLE, REAL LIVES episode, as we wander around Clacton, and the infamous Jaywick. Though the area faces economic challenges and carries a reputation shaped by statistics, what I found was something far richer: a community full of heart, humour, and humanity.

GOD BLESS DEL BOY!

Some people want to say, “Oh, I want to
move to London.” But when they when they   want to move to London, it’s quite worseer than
here’s more better than London. I can’t even. Yeah. I’ll tell you what, it stinks a weed,
though, doesn’t it? Yeah. And it’s not me. [Music] What’s happening, guys? Welcome
back to the channel. We are in beautiful, sunny Clton in uh in the south coast of the
country, Essex, United Kingdom. I don’t really know a lot about this place to be honest with
you. I uh I come down here some years ago to a nightclub called Oscars. It was a New Year’s
uh New Year’s Eve party. It was a rave actually back in the rave days. So uh yeah, less said
about that the better. Um but other than that, I don’t know a lot about the place to
be honest. So we’re just going to have   a little mooch around. I guess we’ll go down to
the seafront, have a look at the touristy part, and then of course we’ll head over to the uh the
infamous Jwick sand. You can’t come here without taking a look at what’s going on over there at
the moment. But let me tell you something before we get into this. I many years ago DJed with a a
chap in Tenneref who was from Clactton and it’s always left a sweet taste in my mouth because
you know he was an awesome ambassador for uh for this area. I mean he was salt of the earth.
One of the nicest blo um I’ve ever been around really. We used to DJ together. We ended up living
together. We ended up hanging out together. So, whenever I think of Clton, I I think of him. Um,
he’s actually out in IB for DJing now. But just take a look at this. We’re at the uh Clton Town
Hall. Look at that. For a grand old building. Here we are. We’re in town with Boosy Boy.
How you doing, Boogie? I’m all right,   thank you very much. Yeah. Where are you from,
my man? I’m originally from South London, Cuden. Moved down here four years ago. We’re originally
We’re right now we’re in Clapton on Sea. Yeah. So, what do you reckon then? What’s uh what’s good?
What? Let’s go with that first. What’s good in   Clton? You have you have nice people here. Like
don’t get me wrong, the community the community together with Yeah. No, it’s not it’s not that
bad. It’s not that bad as you think it is. No,   because it has, you know, there’s there’s
certain parts of Clton that does have a bit of a reputation. Yeah. And that’s that’s what that’s
the down. It’s that old saying, isn’t there? Where   there’s smoke, there’s usually fire. So, where’s
that rep coming from? What’s your what’s your take on that? I think it’s just more that way. More
that way. More Jamic way. This this way where you got you got the poor then you got the rich and
you got the middle here. You got a roy. Is that   what it is? That’s what it is. You’re right. Oh,
we got everyone coming over now. How you doing, my man? Yeah. Yeah. Born and b Clton. No, mate.
Ah, okay. No. What do What do we reckon to Clton? What’s your take on it? It’s all right. It’s all
right. Yeah. Yeah. Sorry. Boogsy. You have um   you have less less crime down here. You still have
[ __ ] about that [ __ ] Don’t about that. I mean, let’s be honest. Coming from Cudon, we spoke
about the good. Tell us about the bad. What’s   the worst thing you’ve seen go on in Clton? I’ve
seen loads. Have you seen too much? Have you done Go tell the story. Have you Do you want to tell
Nick? I think probably I don’t know. People are getting robbed. I haven’t seen it, but I’ve
heard it and I’ve seen that on the news. Yeah. Am I safe around here with my camera, do you
think? You said that% I got to be honest with   you. Right. My take on people from Clton so far to
be honest with you is they’re decent people. No, it is it’s decent. Decent people. Um I don’t know
what it is. It’s just like people just chat chat chat. Who? Yeah. Do you think it’s a bit Do you
think it’s a bit of snobbery? Yeah. I think it’s   a bit snobbery to be honest with you. Town I come
from, Luton Town, gets a gets a real bad rap. Has its problems, but many of the people that talk
bad about it have never actually been there.   Yeah, that’s what I’m saying. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
Yeah. But obviously some people want to say, “Oh, I want to move to London.” But when
they when they want to move to London,   it’s quite worseer than here’s more better than
London. I can’t even lie. Yeah. I tell you what, it stinks a weed, though, doesn’t it? Yeah.
And it’s not me. We’re not. Listen, Boogie. Yeah. Respect. Thanks for taking time out to talk
to us. Thank you, man. Nice one. See you later. [Music] fish and chips. Yes, please. Okay, just heading
down to the uh believe it’s the main pier. I think this is where the old nightclub Oscars
used to be. But um let’s go and have a look.   It was a long long time ago. Long time ago.
I reckon it was about 2001. we come down here for a for a New Year’s Eve party. Um, it’s
about all I remember um of that situation. There we are. I have to say not
a lot wrong with that beach. There we go, guys. The best of British. Wow,   look at the beach down there.
Lovely. Look at that. [Music] Tell you what, you can be anywhere in the world
there. Ah, lovely golden sands. Look at that. All right, fellas. How you doing? All right. I’ve
just come to admire you. What have you got there?   Rickham backer and a Hoffner lefty. Look at
that. Lovely. You can play it. It’ll be all right. What’s I do love a Rick and Backer. Look at
that. Yeah. What year is that one? This one? Uh, I don’t know. I bought it new about 15 years
ago. Yeah. Absolutely beautiful. That lovely. I just thought I’d come and get you a little
bit of you on my YouTube channel. That was all.   What’s the name of your duo called? Uh, words
and music. Words and music. There you go. Down in Clactton Wednesday afternoon. Beautiful.
Cheers, guys. Are you from Harfordshire,   are you? Oh, right. I’m from Luton. So, okay.
We’re Welling Garden City. You’re Welling just down the road. It’s kind of the posh part of
Luton, isn’t it? Yeah. All right. There ain’t   no posh part of Luton. The posh part of Luton on
Tuesday. Uh yeah, I’ll tell you. Uh I was here Friday and I go home on Friday. Three times
a year. You come three times a year. April, Halloween, and summer. I love it. What brings you
back then? Every year. My autistic son. My son’s autistic. He’s loads to do. He um he knows
the fair and that. He knows Wim Valley Farm. He knows the park off the back of his hand. the
nightly that they get to know your children and   they they they understand them. If if your child’s
got special needs, they take more time into Oh, that’s spot on, man. I got to say people are
really friendly, you know. We want to move here.   Do you? Yeah, that would be lovely, would it? Get
yourself over to Jaywick. No, I need three eyes. Cheers, guys. It’s a family show, fella. It’s a family show. Pretty sure that used to be Oscar’s nightclub up
the top there. We’ll see if we can find someone, find out a little bit more about it. Hello, mate.
You all right? Are you local? You a local guy? Yeah. You see this bar up there? That used to
be Oscars nightclub back in the day. It was Oscars. Thank you very much. Yeah. Can I get in
there and upstairs? Can I? I don’t think there’s upstairs. No. Oh, is there not? The club was
upstairs though, was it? I remember it. Well, yeah, is it? I’m going to go and have a
little look. Cheers, buddy. Thank you. [Music]   Oh god, look at that. I’ve never seen that
in a pub before. Love it. Look at that, man. Play darts. [Music] Enter a booking
number. I haven’t got one of them. Can I find? Well, I tell you what, there is no denying,
guys. The beach down here in Clton is absolutely banging. Um, not sure what the North Sea is
going to be like, though. Should we Should   we go down and take a look? Bloody hell.
Yep. Sharp sand. Sharp stone. Come on then. How does this compare to the mid? Yeah, absolutely not. [ __ ] Uh-oh. [Music] Right. The big question is how far
are the toilets in Weather Spoon’s Clackton? [Music] Let’s have a look. Come on. [Music]   Toilets this way. Toilets this way, love. Uh,
yeah, just to the end. Lovely. Toilets this way. Oh, yes. Here we go. Oh, that weren’t too
bad. Look at that. Gentlemen, well, sorry Clton, but you do not win the Weather Spoons toilet
thon. Uh, first prize still goes to Weather Spoons in Cuden, I think it was. Um, I got a
tucked up there in the end. It was so far away. Well, there you go, guys. little uh couple of
hours out on uh on the seafront there at Clapton. I have to say, you know, I bloody love the British
seaside. You bring the sun, you bring the people, and everything’s open. It’s as good as anywhere
in the world. Um it’s just unfortunate that it   only happens for about 6 weeks of the year. But
honestly, I recommend it to everybody. It’s good vibes down there. You know, 3:00 in the afternoon,
uh they got music on the beach, the beer’s   flowing, kids got loads to do there. Uh 15 quid
for a wristband at the uh at the Pleasure Beach and they can play to their hearts content. Um do
you know what? Clack to the seafront. Good vibes. There we go. Flying the Sunderland flaglet.
Middle of Jwick. Excellent stuff. We’re over in um Jaywick Sands now. Thought we’d just finish
up here before we head off for the day. I think it’s fair to say Jix Sands gets a bit of a a poor
wrap. Um it’s got a bit of a reputation for being, let’s just say, bit rough around the edges.
Um but it’s like as I always say, guys,   if you want to get to know the place,
you got to get to know the people. So, let’s have a little look about
and see what we can bump into. That’s got to be one of the most unusual houses
I’ve seen in Jaywick. This is the youngster in the in my family. This one here, her and her mom live
at Stanstead right by the airport. Right. Okay. So, and then this one, I don’t even know why it’s
here. Yeah. Let’s have a look at that. Naughty. What’s your name? Dboy. Dboy. Dboy. You couldn’t
make it up. Dboy. There you go. I tell you what, guys. Only Dellboy could own one of those.
Absolutely brilliant. The boat was cover up. He said, “I’m not allowed this in my house.” What
about give us and gave it to you? Yeah. I said, “I for keep the happiness going.” Yeah. Was my
wife who died 5 years ago. Oh, bless. I’m sorry to hear that, D boy. She had asthma and you know
where that co come in. Oh, no. She caught that and all. Oh, mate. And we was going down to my son’s
wedding up there and we never made it cuz I went to Oh, mate. I’m so sorry to hear that, D. Yeah,
I know. And me. She was fantastic. How How are you coping? Are you coping all right? Yeah, I had too.
As you can see, I’ve got her up with them. Oh, that that’s going back quite a few years that way
there. Well, is that Carol? Is it? That’s Carol. Is that you as well there, Dale? Is that you and
Carol there? Yeah, Carol and Derek. Yeah. So, how long you been in Jaywick then? I’ve been in
Jwick. I reckon we was here. Me and had a wife was here 30 years. Hi there, Bob. Local disc jockey at
the park. Oh, is it? Yeah. And his wife. We know everybody down here. Yeah. Everyone knows. I I’m
getting it as a sense of community. It’s funny, isn’t it? Because Jaywick sometimes has a bit of
a bad reputation, but it did have. But when you start walking around and talking to people, they
seem quite nice. They are. Yeah. Yeah. Although um I lost me wife five, six years ago. Um I got
some other young lady interested in me. Have old she then? I haven’t found that out. Don’t
know yet. What age are you now? Me? Yeah, I’m 84 next 84 next month for the night.
God bless you. You’re looking great for it, mate. 84. You’re looking great for it. You got
a better set of teeth than me there. Look. No,   I ain’t. Oh, [Laughter] not bloody me. No, you the
bottom set I keep in a pot. I can’t I can’t get used to it. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Listen, you got your
dinner there. Have your dinner, mate. All right. Lovely speaking to you. Lovely meeting you. Let’s
get a little handshake off you. There you go,   mate. Honestly, thanks for inviting me into your
house. Oh, that’s all right. Thank you. Well, I’ll tell you something, guys. If old Dell doesn’t
warm the cockals of your heart, then I worry about you. Uh, what a beautiful old boy. There you
go. There you go, guys. Welcome to Jaywick. There it is. Look, it’s the speedboat that
Carol and Bob won on Bullseye 1986. [Music] What breed? Uh, this a uh Oh, what was it?
What was it again? Dan. What breed was it? Oh, pre canaria. Canaria. Canaria. I rescued her.
Somebody chopped her ears and the tail as you can see. And bloody hell. This is all This is
illegal here. It shouldn’t be done. Wow. But no, I rescued. Melvin. Yeah, there a couple of days and
proven to be harmful. Fair play you mate. She’s a   beauty though. I mean, what a beauty to look at.
Been told she she’ll end up being a good doc dog. I hope so. I’ll go go sleep at night. Yeah. No,
I rescued her like that and Yeah. No, it’s really Thanks for that. Beautiful. No, really beautiful.
You really wanted it. No, you wouldn’t give up. I think it’s fair to say, you know, everyone I’ve
met in Jwick so far has been really friendly. And this is this is quite often the case. You know,
when a place has got a bad reputation, you often find that that bad reputation comes from people
that have never actually lived in the area before. Got an old mattress you need to dispose of? Yeah.
Yeah, don’t worry about the tidy tip. And [ __ ] look at that. Look, this is what gets me, man.
Why would you do that in your own, you know, I’m pretty sure people aren’t coming from outside
the area to dump their [ __ ] here. So, why would   you do that on your own doorstep? You know, [ __ ]
on your own community doorstep does wind me up. Yeah, maybe it’s stuff like that that
gives the place um a bad name. You know,   look, this might be a bit rough around the
edges, but it’s what you make it, you know, and if you’re going to if you’re going
to throw [ __ ] and crap and dump your   mattresses and sofas everywhere, then um you
know, a [ __ ] hole is what you’ll end up with. Some old abandoned buildings there. Cure. That literally looks like somebody has
just walked away from this, left all their gear in there, left all their bedding. There’s
a load of kitchen stuff in there as well, and obviously some crap that other people have
thrown in there, but um yeah, there you go. Looks like that used to be an
old tea and snack shop in there. Oh, look. There’s a kiosk in there of
some description. A change kiosk. So, uh Oh, right. Yeah, this was amusements.
Look at that. Bloody hell. So, you know, once upon a time, guys, people were people
were coming here for their holidays. What the bloody hell happened? Let’s have
a look over at the uh over the wall there. Wow. Wow. Look at that. It is incredible. Really, I mean that is absolutely stunning,
guys. Absolutely stunning. Look at that. You could literally be anywhere in the
world. Few people fishing there. Look. Wow. Crazy really. I’d love to know the story
with Jaywick Sands. This is actually   Jaywick Sands that we’re in now. Um, yeah, I’m
imagining I’m imagining the 60s and the ‘ 70s, this would have been a a bustling uh
holiday resort for I imagine a lot of people from London would have come here to
escape to the coast for their holidays. Um, not anymore. Can’t really see many
people coming for holidays here, can you? I mean, don’t get me wrong, they’re making
efforts. Look, you know, someone somewhere is making an effort to brighten the place up. So, you
can’t knock that community center there. Bit of a sports facility there, basketball and whatnot
for the uh for the kids, for the youngans. Try and keep them out of trouble. That’s always a good
idea. Let’s have a little further look down here. There you go. Just in case you forgot, guys,
if you want to dump, let’s have a look down   here. A couple of British flags. If you want
to dump your stuff, just do it at the side of the road. Do it as close to the beach as you
possibly can. That’s nice. Like that feature. Couple of George’s crosses. Oh, and 80th
anniversary of VE Day. Love that. Look at that. Lovely little setup. That is very nice.
A home is not home without a cat. Beautiful. Not many people about today, so yeah,
might struggle for uh might struggle for content on this one, guys. Still quite
interesting having a walk about though. It’s a maze. Hello, love. You all right? Am I in
Jaywick or Jaywick Sands right now? Brooklyn’s area. Oh, so this ain’t Jaywick then?
Yeah, this is Jaywick. Yeah. Have you? Are you born and bred? Are you Are you Essex? Essics girl?
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. You can collect the rest   of me down there, right? Yeah, it is tins tonight.
Yeah. Is it all right around here though? It’s lovely around here. Yeah. Nice community. This is
I’ve got people coming up for me, but I had that cleared yesterday. Oh, right. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah,
I’m just about paint. Nice. Yeah, good on you. Yeah. Ah, good on you. There’s loads of cats on
this road. I’ve noticed. Hello, cat. Another one has run away somewhere. What is What is this cat’s
name? Uh, her name is Coco. Coco. Hello, Coco. I haven’t scared you off just yet. Lovely eyes.
Look at her eyes. Where can I go then? Where’s   interesting? Where can I go to look? We have the
campsite is along sea front up that way. Down that way. Yeah. If you follow along on Sundays, I think
they’re doing a Wednesdays, we have a market at St. Ozis, is there? I remember St. Oz. She spent
a lot of time there actually. Yeah. And then that way we have Sunspot and there every so often they
do a market, do they? Yeah. And I think they still do movie nights and like family nights. Do they?
All right. Nice. It’s quite lovely. Oh, well, I’m going to keep heading down that way. Knee-jerk
reactions on YouTube. I’ll upload your content. Cheers, darling. Thank you. Look. Hey, it’s not
that good of content. Well, it is. People just love People just love now watching real lives,
real people. You don’t It doesn’t have to be   anything fancy. Um, not saying that your content
ain’t fancy. I better go cuz I’m digging a hole. [Music] Mate, I wish I’d have caught you earlier. That
would have made bloody brilliant content. That   would have bloody lovely. Look at that. Can I
film it? Yeah, look at that. Look, we found a little bloody pit bike. Look at that in Clctton. I
think I’ve seen you earlier. Maybe I think I heard you earlier. Is it a 140? Is it? Can I just have
a little pan around that? That’s content there,   folks. Look at that. Nice. Boy, he’s his chain
just snapped off his button. He’s walking it down. Oh, really? Yeah. Oh, he’s walk Oh, bless him. I
didn’t want to hang around. He’s there. He’s there somewhere. Is he there? Is he? I’m probably going
to see him on my journey. Oh, here he come. Oh,   right. Oh, bless him. Here he comes. Will you be
able to sort that out for him? Yeah, I got I got new links. The link just broke all I just got
to it up and all that. Yeah. Here’s Mason. Oh, mate. Yeah. You need new chain on that. Yeah.
What size is that one as in engine wise? No, it’s 50 cc. Yeah, it’s a little 50 50 cc.
Yeah. Yeah. [ __ ] off. Go away. Now go away now. [ __ ] off. Go away, Matthew. Go away, man.
Go away. Hello. Go away. Do you know him? Yeah, they’re terrorizing. Oh, really? [ __ ]
off. Right. Shut up, Matthew, mate. Look, that was them Matthew and all that terrorizing
him. All right. Yeah, I’ll stop recording. Yeah, good. Oh, why why is that then? Why are they
doing that? This bricks. All right. Probably jealous cuz you got your bike and all of that
stuff. Because you’re in G. Yeah. Hey, can’t see   anything because we’re in J. Yeah, chain snapped.
That’s a shame. Yeah, you don’t let them Don’t let them bother you, buddy. Yeah. No, that’s it.
They’re probably They’re probably jealous of you,   to be fair. I’ll leave you, too. Nice meeting you
guys. Yeah, look after yourself. Yeah. Cheers. Yeah, I thought I’d stop filming there.
Thought we was going to have a moment. Um, yeah. [Laughter] Got to watch what I
upload. It’s a family channel, you know. probably start heading back the way we come.
Check this little place out. What’s going on there? Look, we’re building ourselves a little
ver, are we? Nice. Look at that. Step straight out and look over the the dunes. Got to remember where
I parked my car now. It’s going to be interesting. Oh wow, look at this. I found gems, guys. I have found gems.
Look at that. It’s an old mangle, isn’t it? Yep. Old antique mangle there. I
knew I’d find content somewhere. There’s a kids birthday party going on down the green there,
but I don’t really want to be wandering through   that with the camera. You know what I mean?
It’d be all right if I had my kids with me, but you know, man my age wandering through a
uh a kid’s birthday party with his camera in hand doesn’t really uh it’s not the look, is
it? It’s not a look of the century, is it? There we go. Just walking past them again.
You know, I do feel like this place has been completely forgotten. completely forgotten because
why would you not knock them down? You know, they’re never going to be inhabited
again. So, yeah, that’s got to be uh it’s got to be see you later time, hasn’t
it? Take a right down the alley of plenty. Oh, someone likes Carl’sburg.
Look at that. Look at that,   boy. How much Colesburg can
you drink in one night? Woo! Thank you, guys. Cheers. Cheers. Lot of Union Jacks flying around
Jaywick. Not afraid to fly Union Jack. I think this is the home
of the uh the uh the reformers to the left to the right. No, we’ll
keep going straight, shall we? DVDs. Anybody? CDs. DVDs. CDs. DVDs. They’re
all Stargate. They’re all the same one. Yep. Definitely a maze around here. Uh it’s
quite straightforward to navigate though.   We’re just basically going in line with the
with the seafront, but a little bit deeper down the estate. I’m probably walking in a
straight line uh parallel with the seafront. Probably about 50 m or so further
down. There we go. I know where we are. Right now I am lost. Yeah, now I
declare I am lost. Let’s try that again. I think I’ve got to take a right down
here somewhere to get back to where I started. Well, little bit quiet in Jaywick today.
Not many people about. Maybe they’re all   hiding from the sun. Ah, there we go.
Back where we started. Brooklyn Gardens. There you go, guys. There’s Jaywick. Not as many
people about as I was hoping for. It would have   been nice to have spoke to a few more people, but
I think we got the general gist of things. We had a nice walk around the area and spoke to a couple
of people, and I think we can safely say they’re very friendly people, and I look forward to
getting back down here very soon. For now,   guys, thank you for joining me. Love to you
all. Look after each other. Bye for now. [Music]
