I’m 6’10, I run 10ishh miles a day. I was looking an alternative way of cardio, tend to be sore at times. I had conversation w/ my good friend about 3 weeks ago, mentioned I see people cycling around the trail and wished I could cycle around too. My Dilemma was finding a suitable bike for my SIZE at an affordable price to start out, to see if i would like it. My friend assured me that a “Vintage” STEEL Road Cycle would be looming “somewhere” in my size. A steel frame would be more forgiving.

We started looking immediately on FB Marketplace/ Classifieds/ Offer up. 1 Problem we ran into was SIZING. The “Vintage” bicycles for sale would have vague descriptions or the seller had no knowledge AT ALL about the cycle they are selling(inherited/ left behind/ trash/ estate sale). My friend told me to look for a “GOOFY” looking frame, peep the head tube, the bigger the better.

We lucked out 45 minutes after our conversation. We found a 1987 MIYATA 112 67/68cm (27in) for $60 dollars. I went ahead and bought it. I cleaned/ oiled/ polished the MIYATA and took her out for a workout, 30 miles after I’m in LOVE!

Back to the POST, I now avidly search for BIG “Vintage” frames. ANYTHING I CAN FIND.

A couple of days ago I lucked out again, I found a BOB JACKSON Grand Prix in a “Goofy” size. 68/69cm (27-28.5in) custom sized frame. I Paid $75, previous owner had passed (6’5) years ago. One of his friends kept the bike as a memento, but recently tired of watching it rot away in storage all these years he decided to sell. His only ask was to enjoy the bike, he was glad it was going to someone that had USE for it. It was very sentimental piece, original owner loved the bike, his pride and joy. All in all good purchase, she needs a little TLC, a complete tune up to be honest, replace everything that’s old (tires/ tubes/ brake wires). I’m super ecstatic to own a Bespoke English frame. Time to get it back to its former glory.
