Eastborne is nestled right on the beautiful south coast of England in East Sussex. It’s pretty easy to get to, making it a perfect escape from the hustle and bustle. If you’re coming from London, jump on a direct train from London Victoria Station. The journey is surprisingly quick and scenic. Eastborne itself is a true gem, a classic Victorian seaside town that effortlessly blends oldworld charm with a relaxed modern vibe. It’s often referred to as the Sunshine Coast because it consistently records more sunshine hours than any other place in the UK, which is always a bonus for a day out by the sea. Historically, Eastborne really blossomed in the 19th century. Before then, it was just a small village with a few scattered farms. But then as seab bathing became popular and the railway arrived, it was deliberately developed as an elegant resort town. The Duke of Devincshire played a huge role planning out its wide treelined avenues, grand hotels, and beautiful gardens, ensuring it avoided the more chaotic development seen in some other coastal towns. The Wish Tower is one of Eastborne’s historic Martell towers. Built in the early 1800s to defend against Napoleonic invasion. Perched on the seafront with views of the beach and cliffs, it’s a peaceful spot to pause, enjoy the sea breeze, and take in a bit of local history during your walk along the prominade. Eastborne Pier is a classic Victorian seaside landmark that stretches gracefully into the English Channel. Opened in 1870, it’s lined with traditional amusements, gift shops, a chippy, and even a tea room with sea views. Whether you’re grabbing an ice cream, taking photos, or just enjoying the breeze, the pier is a lovely spot for a relaxed seaside stroll and a taste of Eastborne’s nostalgic charm. Heat. Heat. The Doto Train is Eastborne’s charming mini land train that runs along the seafront, offering a fun and easy way to take in the town’s coastal sites. It connects key spots like the Wish Tower, Eastborne Pier, and Holy Well Retreat with hop- on hop off stops along the prominade. Perfect for families or anyone wanting a relaxed ride with great views of the beach and cliffs. It’s a playful throwback that adds a touch of whimsy to your seaside day out. We stopped for lunch at Beastro Pierre, a cozy, vibrant spot where the Frenchspired food was just what we needed. Hearty, comforting, and full of flavor. It was the perfect way to relax before heading home and wrapping up a memorable day. At Bistro Pierre, we enjoyed a delicious spread that included gambas, chicken Normandy, porchetta, pork belly, and a half roast chicken. A perfect mix of rich French flavors and hearty comfort food. Heat. Heat. And if you’re looking to truly embrace the natural beauty of the Sussex coastline, you absolutely must venture out to the iconic Seven Sisters Cliffs and Beachy Head. The Seven Sisters are a series of striking white chalk cliffs located within the South Downs National Park in East Sussex. Stretching between Seaffford and Eastborne, they form one of the most iconic coastal landscapes in England. The Seven Sisters cliffs have been stealing the spotlight in film and TV for years. The beach scene in Atonement was filmed right here. They’ve also appeared in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire and Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves. The Seven Sisters aren’t just any cliffs. They’re seven rolling white chalk peaks shaped by time and tide, standing tall against the blue sea and green hills. The contrast is stunning. It’s one of those views you don’t forget. The seven sisters are a series of striking chalk cliffs along the Sussex coast in southern England formed over millions of years from the compressed remains of tiny sea creatures like cockalithaphores. Their iconic white faces lined with bands of flint were shaped by centuries of wind, rain, and sea erosion. Named after the seven hilltops, Haven Brow, Shortbrow, Roughbrow, Brass Point, Flat Hill, Bailey’s Hill, and Wentill. They stretch dramatically between Seafford and Eastborne, ending near Berling Gap and Belt Lighthouse. These cliffs are part of the South Downs National Park and remain one of Britain’s most photographed natural landmarks. After all that exploring and clifftop hiking, we were definitely ready to refuel. Just a short drive or coastal walk from the Seven Sisters lies Beachy Head, the tallest chalk sea cliff in Britain at over 530 ft. With its dramatic views, windswept cliffs, and the iconic red and white lighthouse below, it’s a stunning spot for a photo stop or to end your coastal hike.
