Remember that one place in Scotland your parents always took you every summer? For us it was Melport in the aisle of Cumbri. A cycle, mini golf, and barbecue on the beach. It was the ultimate sunny day out. Today we jumped in the Cararmac Ferry to show my kids and to relive those memories. And with an open return ticket, there’s no stressing with the times. We took the car over, but there’s always a bus waiting for you to take you to Melport. And when you get there, everything just feels nostalgic. Even the Waverly sailed past. And how fitting with this post box. The most popular activity is cycling. And we popped into Map of Milport to hire the bikes. They’ve got everything, including these electric chopper style bikes, which I was seriously eyeing up. And we’re off. The aisle of Cumbri is the perfect size to cycle around. You can do in under two hours. It’s only 10 miles round. Broy hasn’t cycled in a while and wasn’t too confident, so he was chilling with Finley, which means more work for me to tow the trailer. It was around this point where I wish I paid more for the electric bike. We stopped at this hidden beach. The boys love the water, so we ended up staying way too long. To find it, look out for this painted rock from the road. It’s kind of creepy, I know. A little further along, you have the famous Fentry Bay Cafe Restaurant. Possibly the best place for lunch on the island. We got a cold can of Iron Brew and a sororbe. Welld deserved. We didn’t have time for lunch cuz we had to return the bikes before they close. We made it back in time and we headed straight to the deep sea. It’s the only chippy on the island and it’s pretty good. We got some scampy and chips. There’s something special about looking out into the sea and having a chippy. We ended the day walking along the prominad to see Scotland’s most photographed rock. Garrison House is right here too with a small museum inside and gardens with palm trees. What a fantastic day out. Milport is just as magical as it was when I was a kid. I’ve put all the prices in the description.
