Scunthorpe, an industrial town in Lincolnshire, England, is home to the last steel plant in the UK to produce virgin steel used in construction and rail transport. The plant has long been struggling, with many fearing its closure would “be the end of Scunthorpe”. But recent emergency legislation from the Labour government has given it control over the site in order to keep the blast furnaces burning, and giving some hope to the town. “We’re a thriving town, we need the steelworks, keep the steelworks, nationalise it, get the jobs sorted out and do the job properly,” says former plant worker Jim Kirk, as a long-term solution has yet to be agreed upon, leaving the plant’s 2,700 workers in limbo.

pretty much everyone in Skullport knows somebody that’s affiliated to the steel works it’s how the town was formed it’s everything sort of revolves around it it’s it’s the heart of the town isn’t it so you know to have that threatened is is is massive for scumop it’s it’s like any town you know towns are struggling with the emergence of all these online shopping companies so it really needs industries to to help and that’ll be the end of park nobody want to come here there won’t be no oil shops house prices i’ll take a nose dive cuz nobody’s going to want to live here it just come to a a sad end really and it is sad and it shouldn’t be like that we’re a thriving town we need to steward people nationalize it get the job sorted out and do the job properly but this country needs it steel we need to make our own steel use British steel buy British steel we don’t need to buy it from uh other countries if we can make it ourselves and we make some of the best steel in the world so why would we want to buy it off someone else when we can make it ourselves

I've delivered plate steel from Motherwell into Scunthorpe, if they want to save Scunthorpe then the 70's style workers attitudes will have to change, that attitude is a big part of the problem with the place.
We can stop import for time being … so that this steel plant can fullfill the demand of countries need first.
