[Music] welcome to Kar France the most enchanting city in the [Music] world hey everyone welcome back to another episode of project Gaia JP here and today we are in Kar France now a lot of people don’t know about Kar France but it is often considered one of the most picturesque and quaint and Charming towns in France this is also the town in Beauty and the Beast that it’s based off of so as you go around you’re going to see just these like candy colored old leaning just like Majestic enchanting story book like streets around here um you know it’s kind of a gloomy day today um but I’m hoping that the bright colors of the buildings really come out even though it is gloomy today um but what I’m going to do on this tour is I’m going to show you the best things to do while you’re here on colar as well as explore the streets and learn a little bit about the city’s history so let’s [Applause] begin colar is a popular day trip from the largest city to the north straussburg we have a video on straussburg too check that out on the channel page and from here it is only a half hour trip through the Rolling Hills of the elas countryside where you will be dropped off about a 15-minute walk from colar [Music] [Music] Center Kar France is a Hidden Gem nestled in the heart of the alsas region where Charming half timbered houses line cobbled streets and canals weave through the town like a fairy tale come to life known for its colorful architecture and vibrant flower displays comar offers a picturesque Escape into the past we will wander through the enchanting Old Town visit the stunning unter Lindon Museum and explore the beautiful wine route of elas with its Rich history incredible food and welcoming atmosphere Kar is the perfect destination for anyone seeking a truly magical and enchant ing European experience [Music] [Music] [Music] so one place that you cannot miss when you’re here in Kar is the colel S Martin so what this is is a massive beautiful cathedral right so um construction began on the cathedral in 1234 and lasted until the 1360s so it took over 100 years to build so there’s people who lived and died and didn’t see it completed um but it really is a testament to the Beauty and the craft put into the beauty of this church so what we’re going to do is we’re going to head inside and explore it and just learn a little bit about its history and you know take a little time in your big tour of kar and you know reflect in there a little bit it’s very interesting and very beautiful and about 800 years [Music] old the colle S Martin in Kar is a stunning example of Gothic architecture and one of the town’s most significant landmarks built between the 13th and 16th centuries this Majestic Church features intricate stained glass windows towering spires and a beautifully detailed interior that takes you back in time the church’s remarkable Altar and magnificent organ are highlights drawing visitors from all over the world whether you’re admiring its architecture or simply soaking in the peaceful and spirit spiritual atmosphere the colel San Martin is a mustsee for anyone visiting Kar offering a glimpse into the town’s a rich cultural and religious heritage [Music] [Music] so this building really shows how much Kar has maintained its medieval Center so this building was built in 1383 1383 guys so about 700 years old right so I mean they didn’t know North America existed when this was built um there were Knights walking around kings and queens peasants um so this really is what you think it is and it has authenticity and these buildings are just all here I mean many of them do not have the date that it was built so this one’s actually special but all of these buildings are built from around that time I’d say most are from between 12200 to about 1400 so it is very very interesting and it really is an architectural Masterpiece of a city so one thing that you should check out when you’re here in Kar is the muse un Lindon and if you heard that right uh Muse is a French word and un Linden is a German word um if you’re not aware of the geography we are on the France German Border in the elas region so you’re going to see you can see it in the architecture you’re going to see French and German and you’re going to have a French and German influence so it’s a very unique part of France anyways The Muse un lindin is an art museum and it basically showcases uh the history of colar in the elas region so just art from all around here a lot of religious art and it really is one of the uh Most Fascinating destinations in colar and in this area of elas so let’s head in the UN Linden Museum in colar is a treasure Trove of Art and history housed in a former Dominican Convent it’s renowned for its exceptional collection of medieval and Renaissance artworks the museum also features an impressive range of sculptures paintings and artifacts offering a fascinating journey through European art history visitors can explore exhibits that span from the Middle Ages to contemporary works all within the beautifully restored Convent building a visit to the inter Lindon museum is a must for for art lovers and anyone wanting to immerse themselves in the rich cultural heritage of kar you must also see the world famous Eisenheim alar piece by Maas Grunwald this is the Museum’s crowning Glory [Music] one of the main features of the museum is the cloysters which I’m in now um and it is amazing it’s just this what a CL there is is a central Courtyard in a medieval building and the museum is housed in medeval building so you know it’s no longer a church but you could just go around and you could just see all of the fine arches and then the central garden and these amazing Wells I mean it really looks like it’s out of a fairy tale so definitely check the cloysters out while you’re here it’s like half the half of the value of coming here so the sites in colar are great they are fantastic however in my opinion the best thing to do in Kar is to simply walk around and wander through its streets I mean the whole place is truly a medieval architectural Masterpiece I mean it literally looks like a story book like hands on gredle I mean I didn’t even know it looked this authentic and this enchanting um it really is one of the best things you can do now if you want it all for yourself I’m here in kind of the uh the height of the day it’s like 2:00 p.m. um if you want it all to yourself come before 10:00 cuz a lot of the things are not open yet and you know things aren’t open but you kind of get it all to yourself so you could really take it in and it’s kind of like a meditative experience so definitely Just Lose Yourself wander in these streets and just the fantasy of it all just lose yourself in the fantasy little all the city boast a rich history that blends French and German influences first mentioned in the 9th century it grew into a prosperous Market town during the Middle Ages kar’s strategic location on the ryin river made it an important hub for trade and by the mid 14th century it became a free Imperial City under the Holy Roman Empire over the centuries it passed between French and German control leaving a unique blend of both cultures in its architecture and traditions and that is very apparent even until today [Music] one thing that you’ll notice when you’re walk around the streets of colart are these amazing 7 to 800 year old Wells right so if you think about it during Medieval Times there wasn’t indoor plumbing right so if you lived in the country you kind of went to a river but if you live in the city you will go to a well and these Wells are littered all throughout the city and they’re just beautiful and you can kind of look down and then they’re close you can’t like fall in um but it just shows you the history of the city and imagine living a life without being able to turn on a faucet you you know so you really see remnants of the past everywhere throughout the city and it’s truly amazing also check out the Muse Hansel this Museum and boutique is a delightful Hidden Gem offering visitors a unique glimpse into the world of 19th century art and the life of local artist hansul located in a Charming 17th century house this Museum showcases a wide range of works from hansel’s career including his intricate paintings sketches and personal artifacts as you explore the museum you’ll discover how the artist captured the essence of the elas region with its Landscapes people and Rich cultural heritage the M Hansel is a perfect destination for art lovers and anyone interested in the history of kar providing a deeper connection to the town’s artistic Legacy [Music] we’re here in October so a bit before the Christmas season but Kar is one of the Premier Christmas destinations in Europe so you’re going to find tons of Christmas merchandise [Music] here so one thing that’s very interesting about medieval architecture what you could clearly see on this building here is that it juts out as it goes up so it successively goes up each floor and the square space increases and the reason for this is actually to evade medieval tax laws so in the Medieval Era you are taxed based on the ground floor square footage right so what it really was to do is to create more space so as you go up you have more space and what’s cool about it is that design is really what creates that cavernous effect when you’re walking along medal streets where you’re we almost feel like you’re in a small tight alley and the buildings are jutting towards each other and it’s really an economic and space reason Kar is a city that invites you to remember the kid in you to Marvel at the gingerbread style houses and to tap into your forgotten imagination and innocence this enchanting City will slow you down and bring you to a more reflective mood as you contemplate its amazing Beauty [Music] [Applause] Beauty so one place that you absolutely must check out when you’re here in colar is Le Venice which means Little Venice so this is often known as the Venice of France so it’s just these old medieval homes along this canal here and then you know you see people riding in boats along it eating dining I mean it truly is magnificent and beautiful and you definitely have to check this out when you’re here just kind of walk through all the streets and then look out onto the river it’s really cool step into the enchanting world of kar’s lepti Venice District where the charm of a fairy tale comes to life this picturest district with its colorful half timbered houses and winding canals is a place where time slows down and Magic fills the air stroll along cobbled streets cross quank Bridges and let the reflections of vibrant buildings dance on the water the Charming cafes and flower filled Windows add to the alore making it the perfect spot to relax and soak in the beauty and history latit Venice isn’t just a place it’s an experience where every corner reveals a new story waiting to be discovered [Applause] so one thing that you have to get when you’re here in colart and in alas in general is the tar flambe which is kind of like a French little pizza it’s really good it has cheese and meat and it’s just very thin it’s very very tasty also too I chose to get um a elsauce specific wine so a lot of people don’t associate elsauce with fine French wine but but it really does have fine French wine so I got a reing from the region and it’s very good very dry but a little bit of taste of aromatic fruits it’s very good so definitely try these when you’re here so I asked around for some recommendations for the best places to have dinner when you’re here in colart and there are tons of places I mean specifically around the plasas there are lots of very interesting restaurants but I was told by several people to try out this place which is called Al K house hope I’m saying it right I think I’m saying it right and it’s all about theu region it’s all sauce reg food so what I got was a chaku and I recommend you do that too where you get a sample of all the different great houseu French cuisine and then I also got which was what I was recommended the cordon blue and I looked around at some people and they have it and it looks amazing so definitely check out this place when you’re here okay guys this was Kar one of the most enchanting cities in the world and I had an amazing time showing you guys this amazing City in the elas region of France uh listen guys if you like this kind of content Please Subscribe if you haven’t already uh like this video share this video and let me know if you have any questions at all or if you have any suggestions on what to do and see in colar in the elas region France okay guys until next time take care bye

Cool place
Like to more places in the USA.
Thank you for the information, very useful🙏🙏
Absolutely amazing! Beautiful video and I think this is a very enchanting city. I want to go here very much. Thank you again for introducing me to this destination.
I went to Colmar a few years ago. It's a very nice place indeed. Alsace is a very interesting place. If you have the occasion, don't miss the château du Haut-Koenigsbourg. 🙂
Fantastic imagery. Thank you for that. I would just remove the modern background noise; it doesn't seem to fit🙂
Hi, JP! I'm really appreciating these French tours as I do my when-it's-raining indoors walk on the treadmill! Thank you – these are places that I would love to visit (I live in SW France) but simply can't afford to do so. So I'm learning more about my adopted country – except for the pronunciation of French!
Please, will you use Google – not the US version, but the French version to search the correct pronunciation of places , etc? Eg You were saying Martine, which is actually the female version of Martin! Martin is pronounced … hey, go to DeepL translate, choose French. In the right hand box, choose "English, British," Type in your French word and click on the mike icon.
The English box is redundant in this case, because you only wnat to know how to say the French. If you want to translate French into English / English in French, use as usual, but then switch the arrows so the French is now in the left hand side. Choose "English, British" on the right, Click on the mike button under the French word / phrase to hear how to say it.
The reason for this is that I was getting very frustrated while watching an American couple making videos about their life in France – the pronuciation was driving me crazy. So I checked it out as above and discovered that the US version gave me the same wrong pronunciation as the couple in the video…
Hope this helps – you can use it for any of the many languages available (far more than the Google version). But meanwhile, again, many thanks thanks for your videos, which keep that treadmill exercise from being a dead bore and shows me so much more of this, my adopted country!
