Join us – Stanis and Stoyan – as we cycle from our sailboat Indara in Bari to the beautiful historic town of Bitonto.

Our journey takes us past olive groves, the glistening coast, and into the heart of Bitonto’s old town, where we explore charming streets, stunning architecture, and the ancient crypt of Santa Maria.

But it’s not all perfect – we also share an honest view of the disappointing rubbish along the roads, a contrast to the beauty of the landscape and the cultural richness of the town.

free time. Hi everyone. Today Today we’re going to have a little cycling trip. We’re going to go to uh what was the name? Bananto. Bananto. Bonu is a commune town near Bari. It’s about 20 kilometers. So, we’re going to cycle on our new uh wow on our new bicycle uh for two people. Now, let’s go cycle in the crazy roads. We ride for aari wheels and sink. Tandm dreams and sea breeze wing in anchored heart set free. Chasing sun through olive trees. Pedal pedal down the lane by tonto calls us like a flame. Old stone streets and sky so wide with standing stoing side by side. Beaches glisten, waves so near. Laughter rolling through the clear. Under arches, time stand still. History dancing on the hill. Pedal pedal down the lane by tundo calls us like a flame. Old stone streets and sky so wide with status and stoing side by side. Beaches glisten, waves so near. Laughter rolling through the clear. Under arches, time stands still. History dancing on the hill by my side. Heboat to bike, from sea to stone. In every place we feel at home. Together we roam. Together we ride. A journey of joy. Very busy. Super busy road. Here is the other tandem driver or cycler. 6 km left. Oh no. 4.7. nice to the actual center. So, we are very close, very warm. A bit of a dirty road with rubbish around. We didn’t record it, but there is a lot of it. And a lot of olive trees. All these are olive trees. All of them. All of them. Okay. And this is not an olive tree. A nice woman. Okay, let’s keep going. We are at the entrance of uh Ponto and it’s a shame Italy. Really a shame. We are so shocked. I’m going to show you some of the rubbish which is even not that not as dirty. But look look just look it is I I’m I’m speechless. And this is everywhere. Only the city centers are kind of clean and everything else is like that. And this is not even the worst. We feel at home. That’s not even No, it’s not. We’ll show you even worries. There were places that you especially in the town you cycle through like a uh place where the city rubbish like the trucks go there. It’s not the trucks, it’s just the roads. people. It looks like people drive their cars and just dump things around. And that’s not a joke. It’s a reality. And that’s Tanis getting ready to continue our cycling. Okay, let’s go. Check out this rubbish place. Loads of them like this. And the drivers, especially on the trucks, they don’t care that you’re on a bicycle or that that the other people on the road. It’s crazy madness. It’s a bit of a uh uneducated driving here I’d say for a country that is the third economy in Europe. Well, at least on statistics, the third economy as a size of economy, but we like the exercise and the cycling. So, we’re going to be hopefully we careful and we’re going to survive and we’ll survive. Hopefully, it’s a it makes you think that uh sailing actually is a safer way to travel from place to place than cycling in Italy. Morabish. Lovely. They really keep their country safe and clean. And that’s the the sign over there says Banta. So that’s the entrance. Your bra Another place where they just dump the rubbish. Lovely. In 200 m, continue on to poor version of Franchesco Planelli. Banto is happy. We made it to the sign anyway. We made it to the We made it to the sign. Let’s see if we make it to the hotel now. It says 2 6 km to the hotel. So, not that bad. That’s what I’m talking about. They just go boom, dump it on the street. How huge bags. Whole bags. Speechless. Everything. Everything. Okay, we we’re going to stop recording the dirty side of Italy now. I’m hungry. So, and we’re going to record the nice parts cuz there a lot of history and food and so on. So, here is the entrance to Pitanto. And uh we’re going to try find our hotel now. Uh maybe take a little rest for a few minutes. A few minutes rest and then explore the city. The old town, which should be lovely. Stani said the old town. I’m not sure. Should be lovely. Okay. Old town. Let’s look for the old town. Oh, the out of the We are trying to get to the old city where our bat and bre not not bed and breakfast but Airbnbs as in Italy. Cheetah Vichia. Cheetah Vichia is the name of the Italian. Yeah, it’s Italian way of saying the old city. Italian way to St. Okay. And this is a Catholic church. And these are two crazy sailors that became cyclers. It’s a crazy country. Okay. Then turn left onto Cersei. We at the old town look beautiful. Almost almost to the um almost where our hotel is almost but looks really nice. Good place. We need to turn right here. Okay, let’s uh I’ll stop recording and uh try to find the place. We found we found a lovely room in a very interesting building. And uh well, it’s in the old city, so it’s it’s a very old building, but but it’s gorgeous inside. It’s really really good. So, brought the bicycle in. Yeah. Just to be with us. Very very kind of oldfashioned Italian. Very good. A bit like hospital. No, see the walls. And yeah, there is a balcony from the from the bathroom. Yeah, a small one. Beautiful. Look. Nice. Wow. Very very cool. We are going to go out and explore the I need to take this in. We need to go We going to go out now and explore the old uh city and uh enjoy some coffee, ice cream. Yeah. Nice things. Pizza. Pizza and so on. Oops. Sorry. Excuse them. Okay, let’s uh canoli. Canoli. Oh, yes. Canoli. I like the idea of canoli. This is the common area. Not bad. Very nice. Couple of room, a couple of tables, coffee machine. You can make coffee, tea. They have this famous Italian brand. Very good one for coffee. So, let Yeah, we are going to have coffee now. Let’s get some coffee before we go. Oh yeah, that’s our entrance to the apartment. Very old Italian uh buildings. Yeah, look the ark. Comble stone echo under our feet. Whispers of stories where past and present meet. Balconies blooming arches so wide. We wonder the m hand in hand, side by side. We told those heart is being slow. In every stone a tail to show. Old town breeze and chapel bells in golden light. The silence tells. Shadows dance on ancient walls. A fountain trickles as the sparrow calls. The scent of olives, the sun so low, time forgets how fast it go. Vonto’s heart is being slow in every stone. A tail to show. Old town breeze and chapel bells in golden light the silence tells. Shadows dance on ancient walls. A fountain trickles as the sparrow calls. The scent of olives. The sun so low. Time forget how fast it goto’s heart is being slow in every stone. This is uh St. Mary Cathedral. It has not kici but something like that. So we’re going to have a look now. Crypt. That’s a very early Christian church that was excavated in the 80s. So, we’ll try to to see if we can have a look. Okay, let’s have a look. Buy tickets, skip line. I like we have the ticket for visiting the cathedral, the crypt, and the art museum. So, let’s go visit all these nice historical places. Oh. Oh. Oh. Heat. Heat. Heat. Heat. Heat. Oh, so that creature is the krypton. Uh, it’s a mixture between a bird and an animal. And it’s it’s a s it’s a symbolism of the early Christianity of the divine and human nature of Jesus. So that kind of represents the body of Jesus. Yeah. Heat. Heat. Heat. Heat. Heat. I’m done. Good morning. We had a great night in the town of Bitanto. It’s very overrated, by the way. Like, it’s not touristy, but it’s beautiful. So, highly recommend. It’s not overrated, it’s underrated. Yeah. Oh, sorry. It’s no tourists, just locals, but it’s a beautiful place. Very nice. The the old town is beautiful. Yeah, you can feel uh the Italian spirit. Yeah, absolutely. And now cycling back to Barry about 20 km with a little stop in between for food and things like that. And this is our lovely establishment for was our lovely establishment for the night. Now time to go out and start cycling. Let’s check the weather. By checking the weather, it’s not the phone. It’s checking it uh just outside. Oops. Looks nice. Looks very nice, sunny, warm, pleasant for cycling. Well, I’m only joking, but it’s good. We got used to the uh hot weather, so it’s fine. Cool. Let’s see how we going to take our bicycle out now from the room cuz the doors are really tiny. And uh maybe we need to open the front door, the two of them, and then we go. Okay, let’s do it. And we are on the on the road cycling through the beautiful village old town trying to find the exit cuz all the streets they look the same but it’s nice. Really nice. Very cool place. So ciao. Let’s do some uh Yeah. It’s like a maze with all the little streets and houses and perfect. I think we almost out of the old town. So yeah, we out. We are definitely out of the old town. Definitely out. That’s the main route. So we need to go right and then down the street on the main road. So this is the new sort of city. Okay, I’m going to start record stop recording now and focus on traffic. And just like that, we are out of the city center where it’s very busy. And uh we are now going out into the main roads which uh is challenging as well in its own way of the way all the trucks and all the cars are driving. Fast and furious. Fast and furious. Uh but that’s uh outskirts of Bonto. As usual, people left their junk outside. The one they don’t need. Good style. And uh yeah, today will be sort of not that hot. It will be a nice day for cycling. won’t be super warm, so it be just pleasant. Hopefully, we decided to avoid the big routes and try find uh alternative alternative smaller routes uh between the olive trees. It’s a huge area uh with olive trees. All this is an olive uh plantation. Like it’s endless. It’s really really big. Probably at least 10 km long. And just olives, olives, olives. Incredible. So, uh, yeah, we’re going to try go between the olive trees and avoid the pickout, which is, uh, going to make our journey about a couple of kilometers longer, but much nicer, much more pleasant. So, uh we’ll we’ll see if we manage to find roads that are not uh big roads as busy yet. This part, ladies and gentlemen, is a national park. National park for olives. And we are on a interesting route. Hopefully hopefully no dogs. Better than the main road anyway and clean which is very important for the soul and mind of a cyclinger. So this is again just to show you because uh it’s really really amazing. It’s unique. See the outskirts of the cities. That’s just a normal road. Yeah. Okay, let’s continue. And we’re back in the boat. Was a nice trip. We enjoyed bitto a lot. And then on the way back, we kind of avoided the main the busy roads and went through really really small roads between the olive trees. Was really nice. Now some dinner and um a relaxing evening. Bye-bye. See you next time.
