BICYCLE TOURING MINI-BREAK – BELGIUM & THE NETHERLANDS

I had a 3 day mini-break in July 2022 where I took my touring bike for a spin.
From my home in Goirle, the Netherlands I cycled South into Belgium. And finished, at the end of day 3, in the city of Maastricht. From here I took the train home.

This video is about day 1 of the trip:
* Starting at the converted railway line called the “Bels Lijntje”‘, running from Tilburg in the Netherlands to Turnhout in Belgium: https://en.visitbaarle.com/routes/bels-lijntje-door-baarle-hertog-nassau-5b6ecfaa2a5ab0f9588e5815
* Passing thru Flemish cities like Herentals and Aarschot.
* Finishing in the very nice mediaval city of Diest.

Total kilometer ridden on this first day: 95

Music:
Dobro Mash – Audionautix
Riding into the sun – Telecasted

hello hello [Music] here we go [Music] hello hello hello so here we are we’re in the Netherlands at the moment it is mid July 2022 I’m running on my bike some some panniers straps to my uh to my rack which means I’m going on another bike trip yes although it’s a very well it’s a relatively short one two and a half days it’s now Friday about one o’clock in the afternoon and I’ll be returning by a Sunday evening it’s two and a half days still very happy to go on the strip yeah I’m running starting at my uh Hometown with corla going south south east Direction into Belgium stay overnight to the city of dist which is still in Flanders but close to the to the valoni part of Belgium and tomorrow I’ll try going to waloni which also means into the in the gardens so climbing yes and tomorrow evening I hope to uh to reach durbu on the utter River and then on the final day on Sunday I plan to ride back along the water and the river measure towards Maastricht and take the train there go back home good work in the corner really happy to be able to do this yeah so at the moment I’m cycling on a very nice cycling path very close to my home it’s called The Bells launcher which means the little line in Belgium or two Belgium this used to be a railway line between the city of tilburg and turnout and yeah for the full length of I think about 30 35 kilometers they uh they made it into a psychopath which is really nice uh yeah it’s like I said this is my home territory I cycle here at least once a week so yeah to conclude at this moment really happy to go on this on this trip again and I come back to you later thank you yes like I said we are on the bells launch at the moment my own house is actually very close to the border with Belgium it’s about three and a half kilometers as the crow flies today we’re taking around uh which takes a little bit longer to end up in Belgium however the Bell slides in the bells lines you crosses an area within my province which is a really strange situation because there’s a lot of patches of Belgium inside the Netherlands so actual Enclave but it’s not one big area it’s a lot of patches like 50 or 100 I don’t know exactly how much some bigger some smaller but yeah it’s really interesting and strange situation and that concentrates actually in the in the village there yeah it’s really uh you have borders Crossing uh causing actual houses Crossing churches Crossing shops so one end of your house is in Belgium the other hand is in the Netherlands so we got across that that Village of Bala within a few minutes that way and uh I tried to show you some some pictures of those borders they usually have them marked up on the ground okay so after Bala I think we crossed two or three enclaves and then across the border finally into Belgium I think that will be in about half an hour and then we’re going to watch the city of turdhaus which is quite a big city yeah in the camper eating in Belgium I will try to show you some some pictures of the enclaves in Barla how do [Music] thank you foreign [Music] here is actually the Border because we’re coming from another Netherlands I have a piece of Belgium and yeah if you zoom out a bit you see other patches and borders here as well so we’re gonna cross into Belgium again thank you it’s actually during the pandemic this situation in this Village was really strange because yeah the Belgium rules applied to certain parts of the town and the Dutch routes apply to other sides of the town so for instance Belgium shops said to be close or open throughout that shops yeah should be the other way around Comfort that’s so that was very confusing I think at the moment we’re in Belgium looking at the signs yes muscle from the numbers on the houses you can see whether you’re in Belgium or the Netherlands because there’s always a little flag beside the number so you can see here comes another border so now we’re in the Netherlands again [Music] all right cliff [Music] hello so there was a lot of borders but we’re approaching the the final real actual border where we Crossing to Belgium it’s really close now you see here’s some old uh Railway buildings that have been converted to a nice cafe and yeah let’s ride into Belgium and then the next time before the quarter again will be somewhere between uh close to the final destination on Sunday see you in Belgium and we’re in Belgium hello am I [Music] don’t make a sound [Music] all the commotion the kitty life has people talking they talking [Music] I see you your sex is on fire so here we are we are uh in Belgium just uh yeah I think 15 30 minutes after the city of turnout so turn out I visit uh yeah a few times a year on a bicycle trip but now I think I reached a point where I’ve never been before uh so that’s always nice I’m gonna stop now after a few minutes and have a snack s is on fire [Music] [Music] and I could just taste it and taste it if it’s not forever if it’s just tonight oh we’re so the greatest [Music] [Music] actually yeah I don’t think I’ve ever been here before I did do a mountain bike route which is next to this town I don’t think I’ve been to the center but nice little town let’s continue actually by the way for Pearl lovers of the road cycling of the Coors uh I think agent house is actually the place where about the night lives at this moment he was born I think in Lila which is uh Village next to here but right now lives in in here in the house and last night is currently in the green jersey in the Tour de France as we speak [Music] [Music] it feels like you’re dying dying I say you your sex is on fire [Music] with what’s to transpire hot as a fever rattling bones and I could just taste it and taste it if it’s not forever if it’s just the greatest [Music] [Music] your sex is on hello hello hello so here we are in Belgium [Music] I think this is another uh one of those exactly scientists here are Railway sites what I look at what it looks like but it’s a very straight Flat Line you know what elevated so uh great for cycling it’s about four o’clock in the afternoon now I think I have about 40 kilometers to go it’s going very very smoothly a bit tired but that’s not because of the cycling but of the previous days and uh yeah it’s like Tailwind so it’s no complaining here [Music] [Music] thank you [Music] lovely day for cycling yeah it’s a little bit of wind but yeah if it’s a until winter I don’t mind and it’s about 23 degrees Yeah the route is sometimes a bit boring if you’re riding over this old railway lines but most of time there’s a shade so that’s good think about the 25 kilometers to go to peace [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] foreign [Music] [Music] s right so huge mountain to me almost four percent climb wow foreign first night in this I already booked a hotel I did it mainly because I thought it would be much later that I arrived but apparently yeah it will be around six o’clock so still lots of time so Hotel tonight’s very simple but it is with the bistro so I think I can have dinner as well and a good Belgian beer and tomorrow I plan to Camp uh until we so I also have my tent with me and my sleeping bag and uh that’s for tomorrow yeah getting hungry and getting thirsty think another half an hour then we’ll be there how do [Applause] thank you [Music] yes this is it so here we are a super small room but I don’t mind at all it’s all I need I bet a shower and toilet yeah you’re gonna switch and a restaurant with beer downstairs Let’s uh take a shower and drink beer how to [Music]

  2. Thanks for reminding me how civilised cycling in the Netherlands and Belgium is! If you lived in the UK you would adore every cm of the way and never think it dull or boring … it beats fearing your life on badly designed roads!

  3. Heerlijk een nieuw avontuur(tja) van je. Kijk er graag naar. Ik ben met Pinksteren 4 dagen naar Ardennen geweest met mijn dochter. Tijd van ons leven gehad. Bikepacken is serieus leuk.
