Took the Floatwheel ADV2 on Its First Trail Ride – It Got Wild!

In this video, Fridolin and I take the brand-new Floatwheel ADV2 out for an extreme trail test on Deister trails. We hit two of the well-known deisterfreunde routes – “Ladies Only” and “Ü30” – but the trails were way wetter and slipperier than expected. Things got sketchy fast.

This was a real torture test for the ADV2, and we also compare it to the original ADV1. If you’re wondering how the ADV2 performs off-road, especially in tough conditions — not sure if you’ll get all the answers here, but you’ll definitely get a nice vlog 🙂

What the truck? Hey, I’m here with a friend of mine, Fridolin. 
We are hitting a trail today with adv2 It’s a 1 and 1/2 hour drive to the Ü30 trail.
That means something like a trail for people above 30, which we are. We are both above 40 It’s meant to be an easy trail, but it’s for mountain bikers,
so I guess it won’t be that easy. Ohh! Pluck that zit! And we are also not so much into trails.
We’re more street riders, I would say, right? Yes. Yes. Yes. 
Yeah. And Fred normally rocks the OG XR with OG future motion controller and…Flight Fins
Yeah, Flight fins. And today on the adv We have… four boards actually.
We have four boards with us. The adv1 regular, adv1 Pro, the adv2, and the OG XR And I think we will take the adv2 
and one of the adv1s. And then we will maybe um we will um… …switch. Switch. I want to try the adv. 
And we will compare them a little bit and yeah, see how it performs on trails and how we 
perform on trails. I’m still a bit sore from yesterday  I hit my back pretty 
hard, so hopefully no slams today. [sick music] We just arrived. We just have to find the entry 
for the trail. The boards are charged up to 100%, but we are not sure if it’s 
now downhill or uphill. So, we will have to find out. And if it’s downhill, we will have to drain the battery a little bit 
before going down. It’s super muddy over here. Ey sorry! And so our two riders set out searching for the 
Ü30 trail, not knowing what waited for him out there. Maybe trouble, maybe glory, maybe 
just a whole lot of mud Okay, it’s going up. Draining the batteries a bit. They rolled on past strangers, eyes wide and jaws slacked. I have no safety gear, just a helmet and gloves. 
I took my gear that I didn’t wear for 3 years. Yeah, I’m completely unprepared… like always. 
The adv2 motor is definitely louder than the adv1 motor for some reason. Right? I don’t know. 
That’s your second ride on the second ride on adv My second ride on the float. I like it so far. We can switch later 
on. You have the same profile, right? Uh yeah, the the tune is also the same right now. It’s my 
my default allaround tune. It’s maybe not the best trail tune, I guess, but we can change it if we 
see we need more brakes or something. I have no idea. I just have to understand it compared to my 
XR profile. Yeah. Like what you said when you’re turning that the nose is getting up. Yeah, that’s 
always really weird for me when riding the XR. On every turn, I feel like I’m I will hit the ground with my nose.
And I drove the last 4,000 km like that. That’s what I’m used to.
It feels super awkward to talk English, right? Yes. But it’s ok.
Let’s turn off the camera. Let’s talk German again. It’s totally… No no no, it’s ok.
Where should we go? I have no clue. Maybe still go up. There’s no 
nothing about the trail. The trail stayed hidden like it didn’t wanna be found. Is he a map or something?
No, that’s not the map. I think it was there.
We lost a little bit. Why am I at 80% already? What’s your percentage?
93. Yeah. Okay, that makes more sense. Why did it drain so much 
more than the adv1? But I see here in the floaty app, it’s really like a perfect copy of the of the 
of the of the future motion app. I think that’s the goal to make it easier for people coming from FM.
How do I stop? You said like… Yeah. Yeah. You have to get used to that. [Cinamatic music] Some paths don’t show up… Where’s the trail entry? …till you’re good and lost. Where’s the trail? But eventually We’re entering the “Ladies Only” trail.
It’s supposed to be harder than the Ü30 trail, but we couldn’t find the Ü30 trail. So now 
we going down this thing. Wish us luck! Woah Schmitt, ey
Oh, Chuck! It wasn’t the trail they wanted to. It was tougher.
But sometimes the hard roads, the one that shows you what you’re made of. Okay, this is not for for onewheels or Floatwheels.
This is really like a mountain bike trail. Camera don’t do it justice. 
The trail was chunkier, more slippery, and steeper than the footage shows. Every 
turn was a gamble. Every hidden rock a chance to tip over. You never knew what was 
hiding under the leaves. I just wanted some flowy trails.
Nothing like this. That’s not what I signed up for. But they kept rolling Okay, I’ll take this jump. The motor 
is crunching. Okay, this one looks easy. Okay, we’re like absolute beginners here.
I think the problem is this is a downhill. Yeah, it’s a downhill trail and
it’s like a really technical mountain bike trail. Stones everywhere Yeah, it’s full of stones and all that pit.
It’s like not the trail you wanna ride with a onewheel or a Floatwheel. Slip and slide It’s totally wet and slippery. Why is it It’s so slippery. Oh tuck, ey.
It’s like snowboarding. Sorry. Perfectly in sync like they rehearsed it. [classic Disney villain laugh] Oh man, what the duck is that? Oh hit, ey. Argh!
It’s okay. [Lit Music] Yeah, this seems fun. The problem is, I don’t know how to jump because of my…
You’re used to Flight Fins, right? I’m used to the Flight Fins and and I don’t know if my stance is still fine when I lift off briefly. Yeah yeah.
And then I cannot control it so good. That’s why I’m scared. But other than that It’s fun, it’s ok. You want to jump here?
Yeah, this double here right now. No, I’ll skip that. But this, this is what I like actually.   I mean in summer this would be like…
Yeah, It’s winter right now. It’s totally slippery. I’m going skiing next week. I really don’t want   to kill myself here. But this looks doable.
Maybe next time. Okay, this is fun. This is like 
a flowy trail I looked for. Could be a bit less slippery. 
It’s super slippery here. [Super dope music] Yo! But this part was fun actually, I think.
It’s really fun. We can go back. Nah, no. We can go down and then maybe find the other trail.

trail wasn’t done punishing him yet. [menacing music] Wow, this is so exhausting. This is made for big wheel.

It’s so slippery. It’s so chucking slippery! What the pug?
It’s a slippery business here. Okay. Does this look like a fun trail?

Yeah Argh! This one was so tricky. I’m I bet it doesn’t look 
like that on camera. I’m sure on camera it looks   like completely flat and easy, but it’s so steep. 
It’s slippery, off-camber all the time. But okay adv2… still fine. adv1 good as well.
Hopefully they will survive this. Look how my boat looks like now. Those float wheels came in shiny.

then we would never see it again, I guess. Woa, shuck! [Chill forest music] Okay, I have no clue how to go down

So, the limiting factor here, it’s not the boards, it’s our riding skills.
Oh, this is so plugged up here. This is such a difficult trail. [retro synth music] Oh, cut that knit, I don’t want to go here. You should have taken that one.
Okay, we don’t want to risk water damage here. So slippery, man.
Walking this bit is already difficult enough. Look how our shoes look like Okay. Go here It got so muddy, floating didn’t mean riding smooth no more.
It meant trying not to sink. Now it’s kind of floating, snowboarding.
Yeah. Whoa tuck [desperate laughter] What have we done?
Yeah, I did not imagine it like that. In Bremen, it wasn’t raining the past days, so I thought it 
will be completely dry, but it isn’t dry at all. I think we did it.
Yeah, looks like we did it. Woa! They’d ridden the trail they didn’t choose.
Up or down? I don’t know. Now it was time to find the 
one that called their name. [more synth music] [tremolo screaming] Okay, we’re trying to find a route
back to the Ü30 trail now. Maybe we could go this direction
so we can also hit the BMX trail here. Okay, here’s a BMX trail. But this one,  
not really what we’re looking for. Okay, shall we switch the the boards now?
Yeah. It has like  no grip tape at all anymore. It’s just mud here.
Oh, this one is even worse, man. You think so? I think yours looks worse.
This one. And now here at the back. Yeah, but there’s still a little bit of grip tape left.
And yours is like completely covered. I mean, technically they’re both yours.
Yeah. Yeah. Okay. What do you think? I think I don’t know. 
It’s the same tune, but I feel like this one was   a little bit more responsive, like little bit more powerful, I think.
The problem is I never ride VESC only with your board, so I I don’t know enough the small…
Small details. Yeah, details. But yeah, I mean, they feel both good.
It’s not like totally obvious, but I, I think this feels a little bit more powerful, but it’s, it might 
be also like just in my head. Cuz I know… You you paid for it.
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, I would have to blindfolded check both. But um if I were blindfolded on this trail, I would have died.
Now that I’m thinking of it, I feel very floaty here. [fast music] [faster music] So the adv1 is 80% according to the 
light bar and this one is, I don’t know what is it? 60%. So for some reason 
the adv2 is draining the battery faster. [fusion jazz?] We tried to finally get to the Ü30 trail
and suddenly I had like very strong push back cuz I didn’t know what I…
Yeah, but it’s most likely ATR and not push back. But yeah, we will see when we are back on on the flat terrain.
So cool. That’s like the   small differences between VESC and the Onewheel™, I think.
But now we don’t feel it anymore. Or is it still there?

this is easier. Fridolin tore ahead like the trail owed him something.

But it’s clean. Yeah. Yeah. Look how clean it is now.
We’re also checking the water resistance. It’s amazing. Okay, we are there very soon. 950 m. Okay,  but 950 m through this? This is like really hard.

This is like really an extreme test for the adv1 and 2. It’s ok.

And the trail ahead was all that stood between them and the dark. I think we found the entry. Finally, Good safe. That’s it.

After 2 hours of cruising around here… Ü30!
Ü30 trail, here we go. Go?
Yeah, we’re dropping it. And just when the light was starting to give up, 
they found it. The U30 trail. That’s not the trail. I think that’s the trail here. [lit music] Yo!
Aquafit, is it water? It’s too muddy here. Yeah, we’re bypassing the trail right 
now, but the trail is too slippery. [nice atmospheric music] I would like to go back. The trail 
looks actually nice here. I don’t see anything anymore. It’s too dark for my eyes.
Yeah, it’s just about the the dirt. The wet dirt is so bad. But here…
Yeah. But here that looks fine, actually. [dope calm music] Whoa. That’s fun. Oh, it’s slippery again. Don’t slip out here. [music is getting darker] Argh, this is like more like gliding than riding.
I’m just slipping down here. I have to go back here in the summer. Nice one. [music getting brighter again] Okay. Slippery again. Watch your eyes, sir And go.

turned to soup. Not the kind you eat but the kind that eats you. We’re going outside. Argh, this is dirty! Okay, that’s too muddy. Can we bypass it? 
Yeah. Yeah. Okay. This is not… No no, this is not much better.
I think we have to go back on the regular trail. But it’s so muddy.
Oh, how the… [Music switches to 5/4 to introduce a speed change] He’s trying to go over the spine,
and not to go through the water. Yeah. No. No
Ah, but really close. Really close. I just wanted to stay at the board.
Yeah. Yeah. [slow trappy music] Skit! I almost tipped over. Okay, this is like way slippery here. 
Oh, nice. Nice. You found a way. No,  no, no, no. Armpit, almost lost my board. Food!

speed. Okay, let’s go this way around. [slow chill music] It’s a little drop. I think it’s fine. It’s so slippery. It’s so slippery.

So disgusting Come on. All or nothing. Crazy the difference between this what you 
explained to me about how the floatwheel is always… you get up and you don’t feel it’s turned on.
Yeah. Yeah. You don’t don’t feel this click when stepping on the board.
Totally different. But very nice. [atmospheric music] Is it it? No, it’s it’s still. But shall 
we go further or shall we call it a day cuz we need to get back to the car. It’s 
getting dark. I don’t know how far it is.

came quiet with mud on their boards and the trails still humming behind them.

But the Floatwheel was very nice. Yeah, it performed really well under these conditions. It was an
