[Music] good morning uh welcome to the first bike Ventures video of the Year 16th of January today it’s only the second time I managed to get out on the bike this year cuz the weather being pretty Grim so today uh it’s a totally unknown route for me newstead train station is just behind me there there the track um we’re doing a like an old Cy explore today so we’ve got limby cery and the limby trail just behind me where we’re coming back up later just over to the right is newad Abbey so we’ll be doing a loop round that backing through anle cery uh bestwood cery so yeah there’s some uh looks like nice Trails upon the route on commute yesterday so it looks pretty nice uh there’s a headstock to see as well uh brid way so yeah it’s only 20 24 miles today we about 1100 ft of climbing it looks like quite a nice route to do uh beautiful day supposed to be misty here today I’ve driven about about 40 minutes it’s absolutely glorious that sun is beautiful today there’s even some warmth to it so uh yeah hope you enjoy the video and I’ll uh I’ll Point things out as we go along [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] oh [Music] [Music] [Music] he [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] Okay so first filming ride of the year my second outdoor ride of the year I’ve been doing quite a bit on the turbo but it’s just those that live in the Midlands and the north will know we just had a dump of snow just over a week ago and then it just froze solid conditions were pretty Grim no way I was riding out in that not so much M the cold but the ice was it was just sheet ice wasn’t worth it so we just come anle where there was a a cery that was in 2000 I think opened 1865 so 135 years a good good long run that I’m not sure if you saw the headstock as we came out of the village just on the right there so that’s bit of gravel not sure what these Woods are I’ll pop it up on screen so first first video filmed for the year happy New Year one and all I know it’s few weeks late and this probably won’t go out for another week or so hope everyone had a good one and you’re looking forward to some good 2025 cycling Adventures we’ve got quite a few trips planned this year already got the jog Logistics booked route planned key accommodation booked so we’ll be uh bik packing that in uh the summer July 14 days is our plan duration now that’s including the rest there around wolver ampton so we can drop in and spend the day with our eldest care Crossing that road is quite a fast one was blinded there couldn’t really see a lot so look at this wow this is beautiful but lovely down to the left there but uh we’re not taking that today so of course after the snow and ice we’ve had there’s going to be a lot of water about today um Le some of it a bit Frozen but this isn’t this is nice and sloppy so as you can imagine we most off-road routs this time of year they’re going to be very sloppy this looks quite uh I mean it’s not beyond my limits but for some of you watching you might think that’s not for me it’s a bit mountain bike single track but you need to dab a foot and just dab a foot that’s fine number of years ago I used to race cyc Cross or this kind of stuff is not not that foreign to me not tend to do it these days I prefer to be a bit uh warmer cold cold day is Muddy hours are cleaning three or four bikes afterwards cuz the kids used to race as well so there t set the uh option of going and cheering people on a great spot to watch if you’ve never done it some nice little drop offs here nice memorial there to a CW of a sterling bomber crash on this site always a nice give a nod and PIR respects for those young people lost their lives in pursuit of peace sign say Sherwood Park this way we’re not going that far today I’ll sh it is over to the north and over to the Northeast you’ve got uh lth woods and then on towards bitth Trail bill Trail showood Pines all that area so it’s it’s close to all the routs I’ve done and some of my other videos but totally unfamiliar territory me today [Music] [Music] he [Music] [Music] look okay there invite that long love stuff like that out for The Little Speed HS they’re not painted so easy mistaken if the sun’s in your face so yeah as I was saying quite a few trips F this year we’ve got uh the jog is definite uh got some time at the end of August we may do well guys are going to be king ala’s way again or we might do the mara Castle way which is the new route cycling UK put out ta end of last year over shupure Hills and into Wales H there’s the cson castle South we want to do North we’ll have to wait for another time Adrian’s way and then we got some two three day weekend tricks planned perhaps kill the forest a nice root plan for there at some point and then anything else we can squeeze in we got some local roots we can do I’m running a couple of bike packing trips to some of the youngsters in my local Club in June one of them heading out from Chesterfield over to B Lincoln they’re taking in some of the old LD and ECR route that I did when I went over fled with bodu and then jumping onto the water Railway just past Lincoln uh which goes down to Boston we’re not going that far uh so that’ll be a nice weekend for the youngans and then another one out in the Peak District monel Trail high peak titon there with some nice Hills and the manifold Valley Trail as well which quite a nice one so not sure if I’ll record and Vlog those uh we’ll have to see so yeah if you’re enjoying the channel so far thank you very much thank you very much for subscribing 49 subscribers now which is amazing I only started what October is time so I’m amazed I’m amazed that people want to oh there’s the M1 So yeah thank you if you you have liked and commented those of you on the cycling old canals and Railways on Facebook appreciate you liking and commenting on my posts and I’ll just keep putting out sim the content Christmas oh wow look at this look at that that’s a hell of a Vista that for Nottinghamshire not many Hills in Nottinghamshire but that is a nice view of nice chops there on an 8 Mile height they were just me a bit of local knowledge chat about the weather as those Brits do oh nice careful want to scrub off any speed coming down there yeah they were saying it’ll probably be a bit muddier down here but you never know still a bit Frosty you see the frost on the ground there LS pretty hard yeah had stop take a picture there that was uh lovely lovely Vesta not the highest point in Nottinghamshire those here that probably know the Silver Hill cery area off the five pits Trail that’s the highest point in Nottingham sh on him but yeah if you know the silv color where the uh the statue is on the top of the hill that’s the highest point in Nottinghamshire and you’ve got fantastic views over to Sheffield you see Lady cannings mountain bike area other features around there you see over towards ashover you see all Nottingham on the clear day it’s uh yeah cracking 360 view really is oh yeah cold here really has dropped I think i’ been better off going the way I was look at that look how clear that is oh yeah this is lovely well careful on some of these wooden planks down tree roots again I don’t know if this is a cycle path commute brought me down it so normally commute does give you a bit of a warning if you going down a section that you’re not supposed to ride your bike nice and crunchy in here thankfully I think this would be a slop if it’s uh defrosted massively yeah this is lovely I do like riding through a nice bit of Woodland you think H how old you know these trees if the trees could talk stories would they have I mean they look old Moss ridden a lot of them the old Woodland oh chilling here looking on my computer there’s a large body of water just over to the right there we can’t actually see it we’re just going up to the head of IT apologize if I don’t know much about what we’re seeing got some some bits some facts in my head from a bit of research I did but I don’t know what this place is it’s big was a lake or a reservoir yeah the temperature is definitely dropped here always does don’t it when you cross the water yeah big body in fact still looks Frozen in places [Music] la [Music] la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la [Music] [Music] okay so not 100% sure where we are now but lot of the names of was I was riding through on this newest estate were a bit air crafty related hurricane way uh that road would just turned off the Airfield way so I’m guessing this is obviously some former or Bas so I’ll do a bit of research and I’ll post up on screen where is but was lovely we just come down that little Back Lane then down that busy road I mean it’s 2 Mile Stretch but I was down it in I don’t know probably less than 5 minutes it was quite fast the path to the side which is rideable uh but it’s a bit icy today so just stuck to the road yeah this is lovely fairly modern I think the part back there was called Merlin Park and looks like still building as well on him yeah this is this is lovely well check the temperature as well it’s 1 and 1 12° feels a bit warmer here cuz the sun’s on me but that sun on those back Lanes 1 and a 12° yeah definitely don’t feel as cold as it did the other week when we did the foggy ride over there J Valley Green wear yeah these little ponds here or drain off channels whatever they are they’re frozen goinging to a sign back there at the park you can get on the Rob in the hood way don’t know if we are at some point we’ve got to turn and head back up towards uh where we’ve parked on the limby trail in newad Abbey yeah still look like an area in development still building houses there bit of industrial estate that’s still being built on I’m [Applause] [Applause] [Music] [Music] well this is nice be wit about you though morning thank you very much there little little blook coming to the right that Sun so low going to read my map [Music] on yeah what lovely area don’t you can pick out out the little ice droplets on the trees there like anyy little bbls hanging off just catching the sunlight lovely oh yeah buddy oh yeah a lot this is cool what where cloes the had amazing what you on now whether or not I can divert round it looks like I want to going to the right here that will be a no then as you can see there isn’t a foot path that’s completely gone I can get AC acoss you see that path there if I can get across to there which I think I can then I can pick up my route just the other side I’m not going all the way back there frustrated when they just put a pass closed sign right next to it which is not uncommon you do see that quite often to be honest bit frustrating by this mud rock hard so I just need to get up this Bank in which yeah might be fun might be fun um get the bike side oh no he’s gone oh I’m near at it [Music] [Music] n [Music] say you [Music] will say you [Applause] [Music] will so just arrived at bestwood Country Park which is formerly bestwood cery right you got a fantastic switch gear there and if are been around you got the dynamore house and there’s the winding Engine House fantastic structure really cool to see absolute Beast there’s a INF for board telling you all about it and showing you a picture of the Cy it was actually in New bit blurred today cuz it’s covered in ice but yeah fantastic to see I’ve just been reading there the uh the only existing twin cylinder steam driven Engine House left in its original location in England and the pit hello the uh H was built in 1872 and the headstock I just showing you there and the buildings are the original from 1872 this color closed in 1967 and then demolished in 2008 but the buildings there been restored in recent years and are open to members of the public at certain times not today which is a shame cuz i’ L to have seen them but yeah they are open so all this just over to the right the old spoil heaps it’s now prob the country Park so we’re just going to do a loop around it today and then back out over the the green Railway Bridge that we went under on the way in going back out on that which would be the old line that came into the cery obviously so another little fact about that cery it was the first cery in the country to extract million tons of coal in one year that’s impressive having been been down the coal mining Museum in leads and seen the conditions I Can Only Imagine how hard work that was and it goes up you go first gear yep we’re back on Route I wanted to pick up that Old Railway so definitely want to be Meandering through the woods it the spring or summer a little bit warmer i’ i’ embrace the adventure a bit not today is chilly although all was warmer stud next to that old winding wheel I am now whil I’m riding there’s a monster Hill here this gear a some deer there you can see them on the camera fantastic I think I’m going to be uh hi a biking in a minute not sure what the incline is it’s steep I say it’s touching on 20% that no way no way Cy that’s a Bruiser now way I’m riding lot on this ice on a rock hard surface just put in some dog mug it’s quite a bit around where the winding wheel was thought avoided it but here to have not right it this is steep hard grin on the foot as well cuz it’s just absolutely rock hard surf it’s quite slippy yeah looks fairly new be honest not sure his dogm actually I think it’s red clay soil from that uh excavation worker hotted through wow how you what you feel that in your CS oh but that’s un oh wow what a view I’ll show you that in a second Horse Trail can’t imagine many horses want to walk up that man they got one horsepower more than I have haven’t they look at that what a view how do that look that’s stunning so I’m Hing now I can drop down and pick up that Old Railway Trail I can’t give you any visual points of reference CU I don’t know where any of that is I think hns north westish of here westish but couldn’t tell you it’s obviously best wood down in the bottom there you can see well I can not sure if you can it should be at the bottom of the frame top of the winding wheel you see it red oxide absolutely fantastic right on the top of the foil he here stop and get a picture with that winding I’m not sure you can see it’s just in the bottom of shot got in the center of frame now between the Gap in the trees and then just peeking out of the woods the The Greener stuff just a bit lower down yeah oh that wind’s cold up here I just took my glove off definely colder right go back on all it’s a tropical 4° now the RO back up I mean that sun’s so bright today my uh react to light lenses on to full dark mode so it’s quite difficult to see the screen today oh I see there yeah I suppose the joy of hiking up that big Steep Hill It’s Kind quiet up here so we’re just skirting along sort of top of the spoil heat now I’m guessing we’re going to come down I bet I could have turned right at the winding wheel and just followed it around the bottom of this but there you go we got a nice view out a bit didn’t we you know what we get stronger going up there oh oh that ice crunching now the sun’s warm up here there’s a chill Breeze assum is just my ice from thowing we just dropping down now quite around and then all been well we can pick up the do you know I do this every time just SW me battery at the winding wheel I forgot to zip the bag back up luckily it looks like nothing’s come out I’ve done it before about 15 miles and I realized the bag’s open it’s only a fairly shallow frame bik that one so not much of a lip just got still falling out a bit sketchy on there I guess we’re going right yeah sign back there said engine house so I’m guessing we could have skipped all that spoil he but you know what a bit of an adventure a bit of a climb it don’t matter I’m still quite high up here there’s houses down to my left but still got quite a bit of elevation oh got this old finger sign that’s a beauty a new one yeah that’s a cracker no noing them so I’m going to said that this is the Old Railway line definitely looks like one don’t it I’ve ridden enough and walked enough of them now to know when you’re on an Old Railway it’s on an embankment quite up actually 3 fo or so yeah Beauty oh I know this goes over the road cuz Road under the bridge I better go how far this goes I’m not 100% sure a little uh Switchback slope there for anyone wanting to get on or off I’m posted hook nullen bwell Hall Park yeah o there’s a couple of old Railways we’re going on today obviously not the first part of it but awesome so I’m not sure how how the cery call got to this Railway but I don’t know here’s that bridge I Rod under about half hour 40 minutes ago whether it’s the original I mean the railings look old but yeah with this raised bed on it and surface not so sure but at least there’s still something here cuz if that had gone this wouldn’t have been able to be used would it so take what we can a a big old body of water on the right and don’t know what it is at this moment but find out for you and I’ll pop it up on screen ah yes I’ve seen this before on I think a wobbly Runner video I believe there was a station just there where the that bench was was it went straight on there sure there was I could be wrong not be the first time just look familiar the Great Northern line did indeed carry on there as the Midland Railway which we’re now on curve round to the right so I’m not sure now if run an Old Railway or not it’s got a feel of it but I don’t know oh
