How do I go about upgrading my frame? I love my early generation steel Genesis CDF custom build but in summer when I want to use it for off road exploring the largest tyre I can get on it are 35mm. I have an electric bike with 42mm tyres and it feels amazing – especially on gnarly UK pothole-filled roads. Ideally I want 40mm and still
space for mud guards so I can leave them on all year round and have a dry arse through winter commutes. However my frame has seen better days – it’s rusty in a few places and I snapped off a screw in the joining bridge between the bottom stays(?), and then made things worse when trying to drill it out failed. I now have to cable tie the mud guard at this section. So my question is – is this frame now worthless on the secondhand market? And if I was to purchase a second hand newer model CDF frame with the better clearance how much is it going to cost, including to strip mine and rebuild?
