I lived on the island of Tenerife in the Spanish Canary Islands for about 9 months. We lived on the side of a volcano at the elevation of the clouds, but it was all downhill to the ocean. I was super excited to make this video showing the bike ride from my house to the nearest swimming spot, a natural swimming pool called Charco de la Laja. Although the ride only takes 5 minutes, it took over 6 weeks to get all the shots because I only had enough body strength to ride the 50 minutes back up the mountain once every 3 days… apparently, I’m becoming an old man as it took me two full days for my legs and knees to recover between bike rides. I also only filmed on sunny days and at our elevation paired with the trade winds, it was nearly always cloudy where we lived. Each time the weather was right I’d throw on the same clothes and ride down the mountain using a different camera angle. It was a pretty fun project to film and practice editing with. And, you know, swimming in the lava pool was pretty rad, too.
