In this video I explore Pitt street avenue and the cycle lane here with the drone. Also have a look at st georges road and the continuation of segregated cycle lanes connecting Sauchiehall street avenue to the quiet way on West Princess street. We also have a look at George the fifth bridge as well as the progress on south portland street. I show frustration at the time it’s taking to get these projects completed as well as other projects that have not even started even though I reported on them two years ago. The basis of this video was filmed on the 6th June but some of the drone footage was filmed a couple of weeks later. Showing some progress for these projects. Have a quick look at Argyle street west and finish up with full drone footage of Duke street, Cowcadens road and Pitt street. There is a small feature on St Vincent street church and the rail yard market.
Hope you enjoy
Good morning. It’s Sunday the 6th of July and I’m here at the top of West Nile Street because as you can see taking the central reservation away there and then if I zoom in if I can. If you look at that curb, that’s the sort of that’s the curb that you use on a segregated cycle lane. So the work that’s getting done on Kadins Road just now, they’ve incorporated the start of the cycle lane at the top of West Nail Street into the design. How cool is that? But I’m not to look at West Nail Street. I’m out to look at P Street. So, we’re going to head down down down there just now and have a we look, get the drone up, see it for the sky, maybe include another few nice things around about that area. We’re getting so close to completing this side of the road and then we’ll start to see the proper progress that we’re wanting to see across there when the birectional cycling gets installed. Let’s take a wee moment to appreciate minus a little these rain gardens cuz they’re looking so good. So good. [Music] So the first thing I notice when I come down is blink and you’ll miss it. There’s no really anything to say that there’s no connection. Just got to make your own way over there. It’s not continuous. So let’s experience what it’s like to cycle on Well, first I get up to the junction of Bath Street. I need to stop [Music] and carry on now. [Music] Give way for pedestrians there and there. Come on. Give me a wave. Yes. West John Street’s looking good down there. That’s been included in the avenues program. So that Alexander Greek Thompson building is it’s a category A listed building. It was built in 1859 for the former United Presbyterian Church of Scotland. The tower was probably designed by church architect and assistant to Thompson, Robert Gordon Wilson. The building was used by the congregation of the Free Church of Scotland from 1971 until 2021 and is the sole survivor of the three church buildings that Thompson designed for Glasgow. The other two being the Caledonian Church building that featured in an earlier video and the Queens Park United Presbyterian Church. The Queens Park Church was bombed during World War II and was a dislocation on Langside Road. In 1998, it was listed on the World Monuments Watch by the World Monuments Fund and was listed again in 2004 and 2006. The fund helped restore the tower with help from American Express. The building was vacated in 2021 due to falling plaster inside the building and has been empty ever since. It is currently owned by Glasgow City Council. More recently, it has become home to a budlia farm, and this is a serious cause for concern. These days, even though it’s surrounded by massive buildings, it still manages to command the space around it. The church sits upon a colossal plinth, signaling its importance that you should take notice. Designed as a temple, the rectangular building has six massive fluted ionic columns supporting a full width pedimement across the front facade. It has a square stone tower on the east side that’s decorated with classical motives, Egyptian style doors and an Indian dome. It draws you in then showers you with intricate details. It’s an absolute gem of a building and one that all Glaswegians should be proud of. And I bet you’re a mess just now. It’s not getting looked after properly. Looks like we’re possibly in every second sequence here. We go. So, I’ve crossed over St. Vincent Street and Oh, there we go. Not too long to wait. So, new head back up. Oh, catch the lights. Just made it guys ready to knock me down. So steep. Westdale Street will be much better. Definitely getting a workout there. And then it’s a hill start. Oh, bit of wobble. That’s mental. Crossing West Street again. This guy’s just motoring. Come up to Bath Street. Let’s get a I’m still recovering for that hole. Here we go. the hillong that was on Pong and carry on back to Tupper Hall Street. But you’ve just got to figure out how to get across this bit. Hey, good stuff. Now we’ll head down Saki Hall Street and have a look at junction on St. Gorgeous roads where the waterway comes off. [Music] Little fell asleep there. Quite a protest going on there. Wonder where that came from. Over here it looks like the main thing they’ve done is get the junction opened back up. traffic. So that’s interesting. That’s where you’ll stop to access West Princess Street by bike. Then that’ll carry up on up towards Gas Cube Road. We all know that. I’m not going any bother putting the drone up here. It’s a bit a waste of time. I’ll save that for when this film bit’s complete. [Music] I’ll head down to Georgia Fifth Bridge and get a drone shot of that. Let’s go. I’ll go the long way. [Music] This is a we filter for cyclist on Park Road. If you go to West Princess Street and that’s an accident waiting to happen or that mud in there. Years ago, this site next to the river Kelvin was a real yard. The space has lay vacant for some time, but recently these market stalls have popped up and I must say I’m quite impressed to see this space getting used this way. What a great place to grab a bite tea and a coffee when in the area. Not going to lie, that is pretty cool use of this space to see that. [Music] [Music] I spoke about this junction 2 years ago and I’ve still not started it. I think it’s just about to start. It’s actually exhausting how long some of these projects take. But I suppose you’ve got to get it done right. And fingers crossed that’s got something to do with it. That would make me so happy. You could do that. Thanks. So, that’s just a we video. I’m just back from the holidays having a we scoot about. See what’s changed. See what’s changed since my last video. I know a lot. Progress always seems too slow. Well, look at that. Just completed and we’ve already had one of the ball arms knocked over. Little cross blood. And then we’ll have a look at South Portland Street. [Music] It’s the same construction firm that we’re working on George Fifth Bridge. So now that they finished that, we can continue with South Portland Street. Let’s try a sight. Ton of stuff still to happen here. I tried my hardest to send a text message for the old pay phone that was here cuz I knew it was going to get ripped up. I don’t even know if I put that in a video. I filmed myself here about five times. So, nothing really doing here. We’ll head back. Cling on me, man. Lovely. So, I’m really glad that this has been completed. And how does it work for heading up to a Gail Street? Let’s check that out. I would be expecting a head start. I’m going to do it for here. Got sensors. I’m waiting to head up Osworld Street towards a Gale Street. I might see how much start I get before cars. There we go. See that truck takes a corner. Probably going to be a bit too fast. Well, I got a good head start there. Going to go left here. It’s just taking me ages. Nah, far too long it’s taking [Music] a massive construction site. [Music] [Music] Hey, so I’m at Juke Street. That’s the progress there. Nothing much happening. still to go to the other side of the road. I think I’ll end the video here. So, thanks for watching and see you next time. [Music] [Music] [Music] Woo! Woo! [Music] [Music] Woo! Oo! [Music] [Music] Woo! Woo! Heat. Heat. [Music] [Music] [Music]

Great vid 👍
Not bad, things are a' changing. But as you said wee bit disappointing how long some of these are taking. When visiting Glasgow earlier this month I was particularly surprised by the lack of progress along Argyle Street (which I still predict to be a big game-changer route), but I suppose we'll have to wait and see.
Good to have a NS route at Pitt St, for local access but I reckon I would go further W or E for a better gradient for the climb!
Another excellent video. Later, people will look back and say "before a proper cycling network enabled Glaswegians to safely incorporate exercise into their daily commute, its residents did absurd things like run in circles around some of its roofs to try to stay healthy!"
Love to see it
Thanks for this! Do you have any updates on the upper-Byres road section, works starting beginning of August for (a planned) 2 years?
The argyle street works are happening outside my window, exciting to see the changes daily but certainly takes too long
@12:43 – went by yesterday, and that bollard is still dead.
Thanks for another excellent video. Great to see Pitt St is fully open. The last time I was there (a few weeks back) it was blocked off due to building site work.
What a captivating piece of filmmaking! Your interesting architectural piece & drone footage was incredible. Glasgow is (slowly) becoming a great city for cyclists. Many thanks for your update.
How many cyclists will actually use these cycle lanes though. I pass many cyclists daily on the road, slowing traffic down while there is a cycle lane to the left of them. The worst offenders are the lycra clad middle aged men who think they are beneath them and they need to be on the road.Having said that they are the ones most likely to obey a red light.
Very interesting – I regularly cycle through Glasgow myself, taking photos and drone videos as I go.

So many changes in Glasgow. Lot's of new buildings going up.
Total waste of resources.
Its amazing the transformation that's taking place. 👍
I have to come through and have a ride around now; haven't done that since I was a bike courier in the early 90s! I've a feeling it'll be one of those weird things for me, where I remember the streets, but the buildings have all changed…😂
It's a disgrace that the Alexander Thompson church has been left in such a state. When people want a building to be listed, they believe it will be protected and preserved in good condition. What really happens Historic Scotland does what it does best and creates a ruin by implementing ridiculous rules.
Another great video. Progress is frustratingly slow, but Glasgow City Centre is shaping up nicely – big improvements to the streets happening. Need to get yourself a wee ebike to give you a hand up them hills!
Looking good. As someone who doesn't live there, my main complaint about the centre of Glasgow is that it takes ages to get anywhere because there's a crossroads/intersection every <50m when travelling north/south, and <100m east/west, and the lights take ages for pedestrians (and now cyclists). IMO cars get way too much priority.
Great film. Infrastructure going in Puts Dundee to shame.
great content man
Pity they allowed a car show room to be built over the great cycle rout from Partick to the west over the old Railway. However the bridge over the canal in Maryhill is great. Glasgow please stop building Stalinist flats have you learned nothing from the past.
Do you recommend any bike shops in glasgow? I'm looking to trade in my current bike and get something that can deal with the slippery leaves along the Kelvin Way 🙂
Another great and informative video in the infrastructure in Glasgow! Really impressed 👍Keep up the good work 🐵
‘Rome wasn’t built in a day but…’ it’s all coming together slowly and looking good. I’ve gone up Pitt Street a couple of times in the past few days, really good despite the hill (and a Range Rover driver ignoring my right of way and going through red lights). That junction with West Princes Street will make another big difference. Great piece, keep up the good work👍
