Got train from Derry expecting to go cycling, watch and see what happens to that plan
Hello, welcome to my channel. Um, it seems to be a nice day today and uh I seem to have tomorrow free as well. So, what I’m planning to do is I’m going to see if I can put my bike on a train and go back down that Balamina track uh because when I was coming up last time it was really really beautiful. Okay, so I’ll be starting from here in Derry and I know the train stops here in Ballerina and it stops here in Castle Rock. Um, so what I’m thinking is maybe I’m going to jump out here in Castle Rock. Uh, yeah, it’s just outside the coast and I think here is my destination as well. Somewhere around here. So, let’s go. Few little things charging that I kind of need. I’ve got a light. Uh, this is a bike light, but uh, it’s really, really good. Got my torch charging. I got a charger charging. Earphones. trying to decide like about a sleeping bag. Uh then I’ve also got to decide about a tent or uh my hammock. I’m not too sure. But uh it’s kind of like I’m ready to go and I just want to like put everything in a bag. Couple of sandwiches, some Swiss roll, some chocolate, some beer. Okay, I had to supplement my sleeping bag because I decided like about uh bringing a few beer and my bag is kind of getting heavier. Um, so what I’ve done is I’ve got just a a large towel and I’ve got tarp that I got in the shop recently. Uh, so the tarp will go over the towel and I’ve got a blowup pillow. And also one thing, whenever you’re making these little trips, don’t forget toilet paper. I’ve also realized that I’ve left myself unprepared. Um, now there’s my bike looking great. I don’t have a bike rack. Uh, the bag I have to take with me will uh be on my back. Uh, so that’s a bit of a bummer. Um, I’m going to see if any of the neighbors actually have a bike rack before I leave, but I’m leaving in about 10 minutes, so I don’t have much time to actually ask anybody. Tony, that’s me now just coming into the center of Derry. No, wait. Okay, £10 ticket. Let’s go in. Pretty nice. Our trains. They’re pretty cool. Uh, and this is the place for your bike. Sweet. I’ve just figured out as well. I’ve made a rookie mistake for this trip. Um, my bike doesn’t have a rack. Uh, I went to two shops on my way down here and neither of them had them. So, like kind of like my bag is uh maybe a little bit heavy. Uh and like for cycling, I don’t want anything tiring me out. So, um I need to make my bag lighter. I’m going to have to drink all my beer. Brilliant. I’m looking forward to this task. Next stop, Castle Rock. Ah, I’m so excited. Woohoo. Just coming under our foil bridge. I know nothing about Castle Rock. Interesting. I wonder what the Guinness is like. Um but like this journey is really really beautiful. So nice. It’s hurt more than trees. Um, I think we’re coming up to like Ballerina or something you call the place. Um, but yeah, all good so far. Okay, I just got off the train. I’m in Castle Rock. Uh, the weather’s beautiful. There’s a church up there. That’s pro that could be like the center of town. Uh, oh, there’s a shop down here. I can see that. Yeah. Uh I’m just going to sit uh take it easy for 5 minutes, finish my beer, and go visit Castle Rock. Yeah, I was just messaging a friend of mine there, and I was saying that I’m beside the beach, and you can just smell the air here. So nice. Okay, so here’s a little map of uh Castle Rock just at the train station here. Um yeah. Uh well, you can’t get across there. Doesn’t look like it. Big beach here. Lovely. Couple of car van parks. One here, one here. Uh looks like maybe the center is probably here. Lovely. Uh I see a guy on a bicycle here. Uh okay. Oh, boats and dolphins as well. Whoop. Do we even got a pharmacy? Wow. Cool. Um, okay. The train station at Castle Rock. And look, I don’t know if you can see it there. Totally beautiful. Like, uh, just one of these little seaside villages, maybe. Uh, looks pretty relaxed. Everybody chilling out. Oh, lovely. Um, I’m thinking if um if I’m looking for a restaurant, let’s say a restaurant, then I’d be looking to maybe go down towards the beach front somewhere. Uh, but lovely. Yeah. Okay, that was just a 2 second uh cycle on my bike. I found the beach and there’s a restaurant there. Cool. Happy days. Uh yeah, this could be okay for a tent. I haven’t noticed any tree. Okay, there’s the local whatever it is. Not sure. Uh there’s a little road down there. Uh and it’s all beach. Lovely. Um but there was no shops or nothing really uh happening. It’s really beautiful like you know everyone enjoying like uh being at the beach and things. Uh but I’ll call down there later on. Uh, yep. I think I’m going to go and try their Guinness. Yep. And after a we cycle, my paddles decided to like nearly come off. Uh, but I saw some guy here with a bike and I just stopped him and asked him and he’s brought out some tools. Uh, and like as a way to see if he can find me a tool for this. Uh, but there’s the train station there. any issues, I’ll just lock the bike there and I’ll just start walking. Uh I don’t really have a mission like you know just to kind of like get down to the beach and chill out. Oh yeah, it’s super loose. I need to get it tightened. Um but um other than that, I’m not panicking. No, no, no, no. It’s actually quite nice here. Uh it’s a beautiful day. Yeah, people are pretty friendly. So happy days. Okay, I’ve decided I’ve had to leave the bike here with the station. Um, we got it going. Uh, but I’m thinking like if I go too far out on the bike and the brakes, then I have to push it the whole way back. So, it’s kind of ah, and the area that, uh, in Castle Rock, it’s actually quite small, quite nice. So, like I think I’m just going to sit around here, see the sights on Castle Rock for the day. Lovely. That’s right. I saw that as well. the railway sleeper hostel. I think it was like 30 quid 30 pounds like for a night. Uh if you ever were to get stuck here then um you could always find a bed and then you’re right beside the train station anyway. So yeah, uh it would definitely be worth the visit. Okay, just looking for somewhere potential later to uh put up my tent. Golf course is the best on I know where I can park my tent. Uh, but I need to move here because these guys are um trying to play golf. Sweet. Happy days. But I also know that the beach is up this way somewhere. Uh, and the beach is actually quite big. Uh, so I’ll go down there like a little later. Um, the sun’s kind of like uh putting me off a bit because I can’t really tell the time. Uh, so it’s kind of weird. I don’t know how much sunlight we have left. But if I’m correct, there’s a few hours. So, just chill out, take it easy. And I can hear people having a party or something up there. So, yeah, I’m going that way. Kind of like I think it’s back into town. Okay, before I go Guinness testing, I thought I’d come in and get some uh battered sausage and chips. Um £810 for uh two battered sausage and small chips. Pretty pricey, but lovely. I need something to eat. I also asked them if I could drink a can of beer outside and they were kind of going like well we don’t know kind of probably not. So not be sitting having a beer here. I can have a beer later on. And there’s my castle rock battered sausage and chips. Wooden fork. Happy days. Looks good. Oh, super nice. Beautiful. Oh, that was super nice. Belly filled. Okay. Um, nice weed local bar here. Uh, live music playing. Uh, just got a point of the black stuff. It’s like ice cream. Beautiful. Yep. Nice little area class. Okay, that was a lovely pint of Guinness. Um just a 5 minute walk down the hill from there and we come to the beach. Um this could be an idea for me for tonight for camping, but um it looks super nice. Yeah. Oh, you can actually bring a car down here. Sas. Uh wow. Oh, I’m so happy I came here today. Yeah. Oh, lovely. This is Castle Rock. Oh, I could I could put my tent anywhere around here. Lovely. Okay, I think I found my little paradise. Lovely. And sun’s shining. Um, not even like windy. Well, not bad. Like, you know, it’s pretty cool. Uh, yep. And I’m just going to sit here until I decide to leave. Yep. Um, lovely. Peaceful. Yep. Few people walking about. Uh, there were people playing football, barbecue. Yeah. Lovely. I must say now indoors is a wee bit different here. It’s kind of like that’s the pub. Um there’s another section the other side like you know but um well for me like it’s quite nice. Yeah, I like it. Okay. um for things like wild camping and things like that there. Um we shot a Jaggermeister goes down well. Um because it keeps you warm on the inside and then the brain like it kind of numbs the brain as well. Um yeah, I’m kind of having a party by myself here because uh they said like the place closes at 10:00. So I got myself a whole table full of drinks. So I think I’ll be okay here till 11:00. Um, it’s better to stay here. Uh, because I think it’s starting to get a bit cold outside. Sweet. Okay. So, closing ours was 10:00 and it’s like know what time it is. Um, 11, but yeah, we’re still going. Brilliant. Okay. Um, I just woke up there in the bar. Um, yeah. I kind of fell asleep and I’m on my way to the beach. Um I’m not going to see very much here and it’s pretty dark. So um but yeah, it’s um it’s a good night for me and it’s a good night from Castle Rock. So okay. Um you can’t really see it here from the camera. Um but I got my tent made up within a few minutes. It wasn’t raining. It was pretty cool. Um yeah, it’s it’s pretty nice here. I’m pretty comfortable. I’ve got a little light at the top. Um I’ve got um I’ve got two cans of beer and yeah, I’m pretty comfortable. Like it’s pretty nice. Like I’m I can hear the waves. And that’s me now for tonight. And here’s where I put my tent up last night. I had a great night’s sleep. Um the weather’s a wee bit off today. Okay, we small coffee shop. Got myself a lovely cup of coffee. Beautiful. Okay, I noticed uh getting the train from Derry to Castle Rock cost £10, but to get back now it’s costing £12. Uh Castle Rock pretty nice. Uh pretty small, friendly little seaside town. I was hoping to do a bit of cycling, but uh having a few issues with my bike. Then uh I’ll definitely be coming back again uh and maybe not uh with my dairy stuff this time. Um I did get a few funny looks from some people whenever they saw this top. Uh but yeah, no problem at all. like you know uh people were pretty cool here. Uh the people who worked in the bar were super nice. The coffee shop super friendly. Uh the chip shop super nice. Uh cool people. Uh and I think that’s my train coming now. Okay. I just brought my bike into life cycles here at the train station in Derry and uh the guy fixed up my bike. 2 seconds. Brilliant. Okay. When I got back to Derry, I actually called into one of the local bars and uh there was a guy standing at the bar and he said to me, he said, “You were making videos at the Castle Rock train station.” I said, “Yes, I was.” And I told him that I was there camping. And he said, “Well, next time you come to Castle Rock, uh you’re welcome to stay at my place.” I said, “Well, brilliant. Thank you very much.” Um over this last few days I have been fixing up my bicycle. Um because I really want to return to Castle Rock. Um there was a few things I wanted to do when I was there and I didn’t get any of them done. Um main reason is because my bicycle broke and then because of the wind as well caused me a few issues. Things I wanted to do I actually couldn’t. Uh, so I am actually gearing up to come back and I can’t wait. Okay. And now I got a little rack for my bike. Brilliant. So next time I go on a little track, I’m sorted. Okay. While fixing this rack uh on my bike, uh I just figured something out. Um I had to use this tool that I had up in my bedroom for bikes and it had this little compartment in it. And when I opened it, there’s the tools I needed there to fix my bike when I was in Castle Rock. I didn’t even know didn’t even know it had these. Uh yeah, learn something new every day.
