  1. My wheels have probably done 35,000km and stupidly flying downhill on a 30km unpaved descent with a heavy touring setup has cracked a flange in the hub.

I’m 750km from any sort of possible replacement (Kashgar, China) and hitchhiking a part of the trip I was most looking forward to is an absolute last resort.

Anything else I can do except bind up the hub around the crack with wire like in the photo? I’ve seen zip ties recommended, but plastic is weaker and can stretch (and the Tajikistan zip ties are appalling quality), and I’d struggle to fit the cassette back on top of them.

Woooooh that definitely looks like a MacGyver job! Just missing the chewing gun to keep everything together 😂

  3. That’s probably the best you can do, and take rough sections of road very gingerly, and keep an eye on it. What about removing the spoke where the crack is, and re-truing the wheel? At least you wouldn’t have the spoke pulling on the wound and possibly making it worse.

  4. Likely hoping it will hold is the best you can do. If it fails it fails. It could still somewhat work for a few hundred kilometers though.

  5. Maybe find someone who can weld it ? Possibly even with the wires in place…or without and then drill the holes for the spokes…🤷🏾‍♂️
