The three of us start our tour in Emden and first make our way to Aachen. Here we pick up Ole, Hans-Jürgen’s son, who accompanies us since our Micha unfortunately can’t be there this time. We then drive to the AP Hotel in Viernheim for an overnight stay. After checking in, the first gin and tonics are served at the end of the day. On the second day of the journey we start at 9 a.m. and reach the B&B Hotel in Thonon les Bains, which is on the French side of Lake Geneva, around 6 p.m. Since the Routes de Grand Alpes starts here, we unload the motorcycles from the trailer so that we can start the next day stress-free. The obligatory arrival beer is available in the hotel lobby. Afterwards we walk to nearby Lake Geneva. Here, in a wonderful setting, we end the evening with beer, sandwiches and anticipation of the next day. Today is the first day of driving. And mill, what’s up? It’s starting. Yes!! We start the tour in wonderful weather. And it will stay the same for the next 2 weeks. There is heavy traffic for the first 50 kilometers to Cluses. But then we turn off into the mountains… Here we get a first impression of what awaits us in the next few days. We take a coffee break at the Col de la Colombiere mountain pass at 1,618 m. After the photo shoot, the journey continues towards Thones. After driving through the Col de Aravis and Col de Saises mountain passes, we reach the Hotel Les Ancolies in Areches in the Beaufort region. Good morning! Ole, please check the camera. Thanks! Today we go over the highest passes of our trip to Briancon. Short stopover, not because we can’t do it anymore, but… because of it. The treasure in the Silver Lake… or whatever. Yes, more precisely it is the Roselend Dam in the Beaufortin Mountains. And here, too, you can get very upset about mediocre camera accessories. How nonsense? Arrr, throw it away. Nonsense. I think that something like this, sometimes such outbursts are captured on video. Holy crap, and in this idyllic landscape? We continue over the Cormet de Roselend with a pass height of 1967 m. This mountain pass connects Beaufort with Bourg-Saint-Maurice. We drive via Bourg-Saint-Maurice and Seez and take a short break at the Tignes dam of the Lac du Chevril. At the time of its construction in 1952, the dam was 180 meters high and was considered the largest arch dam in Europe. The old village of Tignes disappeared into the dammed lake. After Val d’Isère, known for its winter sports, we continue towards the highest passable mountain pass in the Alps, the Col de L’Iseran. Then we reach the top of the pass. At an altitude of 2,770 meters there is a small buffet on the motorbike. Photos are a must here, at the highest point of our journey, of course. Due to the climate, the top of the pass is in the clouds for many days of the year. But we are also lucky with the weather here. After this very beautiful route, we decide during a short break to take a detour to a swimming lake. The Lac du Mont Cenis reservoir is located on a high plateau right next to the Col du Mont Cenis mountain pass. So. And this is now the implementation of the completely idiotic Haak idea of visiting a swimming lake. It could also be that it was a stupid mill idea, but what does that matter? Apart from the rocky surroundings, a very beautiful reservoir…but also a very cold one! We have everything in the team. Soft, hard… young, old… Jou Mühle, you are my great role model. You dared to do it. You dared to do it. Oh shit. What was the comment again for the camera? For the camera? … Oh shit. After turning onto the Col du Télégraphe in Saint-Michel-de-Maurienne, we take a break in the cafe of the same name after a very beautiful driveway. Then we go up to the Col du Galabier. Here, at 2,642 meters above sea level, you have a perfect all-round view of France’s most beautiful mountain ranges. We also have a good view of the corner paradise that awaits us soon. We then continue over the Col de Lautaret towards our destination today, Briancon. We check into the Hotel de Paris in Briancon. The small town of Briancon is located very close to the Italian border and is the highest town in France. For today we have planned a 238 km long round trip. In wonderful weather again, we go again over the Col de Galibier and the Col de Telegraphe towards St. Jean de Maurienne. In Valloire the camera gets a new place on top of Ole’s helmet. On the D80 from Villargondran to Albiez-le-Jeune, the route has 46 hairpin bends. After endless hairpin bends and U-turns, you find a motorcycle buffet in the middle of the forest, with many specialties… After this delicious break, we continue via Albiez le Jeune to the Col de la Croix de Fer. Again and again you see signs on the street that remind us that just a few days before the racing cyclists of the Tour de France had fought their way up here. Can you think of anything else that makes sense at the end of this section of the film? Wonderful route… Yes, that’s exactly how it is. I’ll take a look around. Wonderful!! At 30 degrees and bright sunshine we enjoy the break on the Col de la Croix de Fer. After the break we continue on the D526 via Le Verney to Alpe-d’huez. Despite a construction site, we come to the slightly hidden and rather unknown Col de Sarenne. This wonderfully lonely route, which is largely single-lane, offers not only sharp bends but also great views. At Mizoen we take a break at Lac du Chambon to take a refreshing swim. After this cooling off we go back to Briancon. Here we look at the old town and the city fortress, which has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2008. And ice cream is always possible. Today’s day tour goes from Briancon to Barcelonette. We drive over the Col d’Izoard, the third highest pass on the Route des Grandes Alpes. There is currently construction going on at the top of the pass, but we still take a short break and take a souvenir photo. There are always wonderful views and the opportunity for a group photo on the motorcycle. We continue along winding stretches towards Guillestre. For a change, we also enjoy the long curves of the Gorges du Guil. Then we head over the Col de Vars towards Jausiers. We reach Barcelonette around 1:00 p.m. and check into the beautiful Grand Hotel. After a small cucumber and cheese platter and the first drinks, we explore the city a little and eat something at a cozy Mexican restaurant. Well, and ice cream is always good for Holger the animal lover. The cat gets water. Totally cute. Here from the tap. Today we’re doing another round trip and heading south. On the way towards Colmar we once again discovered a nice place for a short rest… and for some nice photos. After a relaxing break at Saint-Martin-d’Entraunes, we continue via Valberg and St. Sauveur sur Tinee. Heading north again, we drive through the Col de la Bonette mountain pass. Here too, near the Italian border, there are always great views and the opportunity for us to take a short break. The military camp Camp des Fourches, which has been abandoned since the 1950s, is located at an altitude of 2,270 meters. After a final break, we drive back towards Barcelonette over the north side of the Col de la Bonette. When we arrived back in Barcelonette, we enjoyed French cuisine and live music in the square in front of our hotel in the evening. Today’s stage takes us to Menton, directly on the Côte d’Azur. On the Route des Grandes Alpes we continue south over the Col de la Cayolle to Guillaumes. After a short check in the middle of the mountains by the gendarmerie – without any complaints – we take a break at Georg de Daluis and enjoy the wonderful scenery. We drive a loop via Puget-Theniers to St-Saveur sur Tinee. We continue via St Martin Vesubie, where two years ago a devastating flood caused extensive and still visible damage. Now we go over the Col de Turini, over which a stage of the Monte Carlo Rally takes place every year. It is called the Night of the Long Knives. From Sospel we go over the Col de Castillon to Menton, which is now well over 30 degrees. We park the motorcycles on the street and move into our icy cool apartment with a sea view. We end the day with a short trip into town. After breakfast together, Holgi & Mühle set off to explore the old town of Menton. Meanwhile, Hans-Jürgen & Ole set off to Monte Carlo on their moped. The non-drivers are allowed to drink beer in Menton during the day while father & son go on a nice round trip to Italy. The route leads via Sospel and Breil sur Roya to Olivetta San Michele in Italy. We then end the evening with a delicious meal on the beach promenade in Menton. After starting our second day in Menton with breakfast at the Boulangerie Jean Luc Pele, we start our day trip via Monte Carlo to Nice, lightly dressed. We make our first stop at Port Hercule, the centrally located marina in the Principality of Monaco. It offers space for up to 700 boats. We continue towards Nice. We combine our next stop at the port of Nice with a short coffee break. Then it goes back along the Côte d’Azur to Menton. When we arrive in Menton, we drive to the local Gockelspezi and wisely eat the grilled bird in the air-conditioned apartment. We pass the rest of the evening with deep conversations, music from the Bluetooth box and plenty of cold drinks. I would like to document this idleness here. Mill red wine, eight glasses, no longer usable. Ole white wine, yes I think two glasses is still possible. That’s still possible. Hans-Jürgen … no longer there Cheers! Everything will be taken up mill. That too? Straight into the camera? Yes, I’ve already noticed Mr. Schutzmann, I’ve already put on my…my…beautiful hairstyle. Is that a nice hairstyle? Yes – oh right – ass. Today’s stage goes from Menton westwards via Nice and Grasse, along the Verdon gorge to Moustiers-Sainte-Marie. After the first 80 km were a bit annoying due to the high traffic density, from Grasse we continue on very beautiful routes towards Draguignan. In Comps-sur-Artuby we enjoy a delicious salad at lunchtime and then look forward to the route ahead along the Verdon Gorge. At a small parking bay we take the opportunity to take a group photo and take in the view of the gorge. The gorge, which is approximately 21 km long and up to 700 meters deep, is one of the largest canyons in Europe. At the end of the wonderful route along the gorge we can already see the Lac de Sainte-Croix. This large reservoir is mainly fed by the Verdon River, which flows directly into the lake at the western end of the Verdon Gorge. We have booked a rustic apartment for the coming night in the heart of the medieval village of Moustiers-Sainte-Marie. Yes, dear friends, that’s the view from our hotel today and I would say… more Provence and the south of France isn’t possible, is it? Yes, the landscape and the weather are really fantastic, but a little cooling down would also be very nice. So we move into our apartment and then, dressed appropriately, make our way to the lake. With this wonderful backdrop, refreshing yourself in the lake is of course even more fun. We enjoy dinner on the panoramic terrace of our hotel restaurant, with a wonderful view of the Moustiers Valley. We then explore the small mountain village on foot and see why the place is considered one of the most beautiful villages in France. Today we start early in Moustiers Sainte-Marie, drive along the north side of the Verdon Gorge, then via Montbrun les Bains to Saint-André-de-Rosans. We drive along the Collet Barris in an extra loop. This detour offers us particularly spectacular views of the Verdon Gorge. We enjoy the last curves along the gorge and then continue towards Castellane. We see fields of blooming lavender more and more often along the route. Then we pass the mountain village of Montbrun les Bains. Finally we reach our accommodation in Saint-André-de-Rosans. We receive a warm welcome from our host Sahim and move into the tastefully furnished rooms. In the evening, Sahim treats us to regional delicacies and his dog Pixie hardly leaves our side. Holger introduces the property’s garden and the rooms. After saying goodbye to Sahim and Pixie, we set off for Grenoble, our destination for the day. The route initially takes the usual winding route towards Serres. Then we continue north. After a varied route, with both serpentines and long and fast passages, we take a short break in La Chapelle en Vercors for a cola and a small snack. After we have completed the last stage via Villard de Lans, Grenobel can already be seen from afar. With a few detours we reach our home, which is quiet but centrally located. We like to use the inner courtyard to park our motorcycles safely and in the shade. In the evening we grill on our terrace and end the day with beer, chips and city-country river. With vehicle restrictions, cheap bus tickets, new trams and cycle paths, Grenoble has managed to get most of the traffic out of the city. The wonderful backdrop of Grenoble and you can hardly believe it when Mühle arrives on the e-scooter. Wonderful We explore Grenoble on the city scooters. New for Holger and me, but it’s fun, it’s really fun… While Holgi and Mühle are passing the time in Grenoble today, Hans-Jürgen & Ole are taking advantage of what is probably the last chance of this tour to enjoy a lot of curves. The big lap initially leads mainly along the route driven the day before to Saint-Croix. After a break, we continue along the western route D70 and the curve fireworks at Combe Laval and Saint-Laurent en Royans. Back in Grenoble we grill together again and end the evening. Hans-Jürgen and Holger are talking about the coffee machine. Mill presents breakfast. After the French breakfast, we saddle up for our last day of driving from Grenoble to Thonon les Bains, our starting point on Lake Geneva. The first stage takes us through the Savoy towards Chambery. The road is being renovated. We tried, but unfortunately we can’t get through it. They’re just starting to tar, so we’re re-planning the tour. Unfortunately, due to road construction work, we are forced to leave the planned route and therefore reach Chambery on a rather straight route. So, Hans-Jürgen’s motorcycle spontaneously lost a lot of air after he drove over a stone or something similar. And we found a motorcycle dealer here and are waiting for it to open soon. And then let’s see what we can do there. Apparently Hans-Jürgen had driven a nail into his tire while passing a construction site. Fortunately, a repair was possible and after about two hours we continued with the burgers in our stomachs. Now we go back up to the Chalet Nordique du Plateau, where we take a short coffee break with a wonderful view. We drive through the very beautiful Annecy, located on the lake of the same name. Shortly after Annecy we drive through a very beautiful passage before starting the final spurt of our Grand Alpes tour. Then we reach our hotel in Thonon les Bains and treat ourselves to the traditional arrival beer before loading the mopeds onto the trailer. After 600km of motorway we reach our centrally located apartment in Limburg an der Lahn at around 7 p.m. After we had a delicious meal in a restaurant around the corner, we walked straight into a well-attended wine festival with live music. So we treated ourselves to a few bottles of white wine and had a lovely evening. With a slight hangover, we dropped Ole back in Aachen the next day and the three of us drove back to East Frisia.

  1. Cooles Video.

  9. Hi guys! Great video! Can you share information where did you leave a trailer? I’m coming near Geneva with the same purpose next week. 👍👏🏍️🏍️🏍️

    Manfred
