I currently ride a specialized allez (alloy). I have had this bike for about 5 months and have love it. I got it as a step into more serious biking after owning a really solid daily driver (old fuji frame with fat wheels).
I got the Allez brand new because I knew very little and didn’t have really any friends/family that know anything about bikes. It’s a great bike, has got me fully addicted… but now I realize I could have went used carbon for a similar price. The allez is a bit heavy and the 8 speed claris groupset makes me feel like im missing something.
I have now the opportunity to get a 2018 Roubaix sport (carbon, shimano 105, future shock thingy, etc.). Basically met a guy who is looking to upgrade to something new and offered to sell me it for around $1400 (initial ballpark, open to negotiation). I gave it a test ride and it feels so much better than my Allez.
He rides this bike like twice a week and rarely more than 15-20 miles at a time. He got it secondhand I Think but it is really in great condition.
Main questions are:
I going for carbon too early in my road biking journey?
Is that a reasonable number for the roubaix?
(sorry for the shit punctuation, posting from my phone)
