Within just half an hour, the continuous downpour transformed the fjorded town into a veritable lakescape. The most affected were the neuralgic points which are often flooded during storms. The central bus station junction, the Nord dehofendon area, the Spikei area, and the Nushtat district were all flooded. A particularly spectacular incident occurred in the Nusat district where an electric articulated bus became stuck in the water near the Greenland Gangway. Unable to move forward or backward, the fire department was notified but initially could only advise passengers to stay on the bus and remain patient. The rescue operation was eventually carried out by the active bus company itself, which sent a specialized Unimogue vehicle to assist. To allow the water to drain more quickly, the fire department opened manhole covers in several places. Although some basements were flooded, the water level was usually so low that intervention was unnecessary, explained group leader Florian Hints. One exception was a house in Nushtat. here. Professional firefighters had to pump out the basement after residents reported suspicious noises coming from electrical cables. After the water in the new town drained, another problem became apparent. Numerous rats had been forced to the surface from the sewers. The fire department immediately issued warnings against entering or crossing flooded roads. Many people underestimated the danger posed by the mass of water. Open manhole covers and deep standing water can quickly cause accidents both for pedestrians and for drivers and cyclists. Emergency services urged all residents to exercise caution during the storm and avoid flooded areas. The German weather service DWD issued an official severe weather warning for several regions on Thursday evening. Therefore, severe thunderstorms are expected locally between 6:08 p.m. and 7 p.m. This is accompanied by heavy rain with rainfall amounts of up to 30 L per square meter within an hour. Meteorologists also warned of hail and strong wind gusts of up to 55 km per hour or a 47. Similarly, a slightly weakened warning for severe thunderstorms is also in effect in other regions between 6:08 p.m. and 700 p.m. In these areas, rainfall amounts of up to 20 L per square meter per hour are expected, accompanied by wind gusts of up to 55 km hour. According to authorities, hail cannot be ruled out here, but it is considered unlikely.
