Welcome to the GCN tech show. This week, we’re going to pick our way through the best and worst tech from this year’s tour to France so far. Plus, we have some speedy new inner tubes and some lightweight lightweight wheels, as well as comments of the week and the bike vault. Plus, we’re back together. It’s been ages. It’s been great, mate. Nice to have you back. [Music] Okay. Right, so the tour to France is in full swing and there have been some amazing bikes and bits of tech on display and in use here. So, we thought let’s have a quick run through of our best and worst tech that we have seen so far. And I feel like we should throw to you first cuz I feel like you’re saying you want to get off your chest. Raw glitches, ankle socks. That is without doubt the worst thing we’ve seen at this year’s tour of France. Well, if that’s the worst, I feel like that’s that’s a good standard to start with. Yeah. I mean, yeah, I think that’s okay. Look, an absolute abomination. UCI, what they need to They need to ban that. Yeah, we’re like, we’re promoting the active banning of no socks. Oh, it looks terrible. Okay. Right. There’s more some more text point out here. So, there’s been a lot of I mean, this set the internet a light. People were going all over the place talking about this. I’ve seen it spoken about on, you know, various sort of platforms and podcasts. And I think we need to clear some stuff up about this. Okay. Please. Roglitch rides for Red Bull, Bora Hansrove. Yeah. Okay. And they have Dan Bigum on their team as the performance sort of engineer. Okay. Yeah. Well, a huge expert. Yeah. Yeah. And he and he tests things and all the rest of it. Now, I saw some speculation from Luke Row, right on on their what’s occurring podcast with Garrett Thomas. Yeah. Where Luke Row said, “All right, but 100% this came from Dan Bigum.” No, he didn’t say Dan Bigum. He said Dan Bingham. and and that that graded on me. Get his name right. Like I hate get his name right. That’s not very respectful. Bingham. Bighum. Anyway, and then Garen Thomas got his name wrong calling Bingham as well. So you think they were saying it was Dan that said no socks, but really it would appear that wasn’t the case. Well, I asked Dan and he said it absolutely 100% did not come from him. And and I think there’s a certain element of, you know, you can lead a lead a horse to water. Yeah. But you can’t make it drink. And and I think people like Dan are constantly up against that with with riders. You know, they can tell them, they can give them the best information of what’s the best equipment. They don’t always use it. Yeah. And and with regards to that element of tech, you know, aeros, we’ve said it before. Yeah. Big studies have shown that they make more difference in a lot of instances than deep section wheels and like 1% of the cost. And with regards to the cooling side of it, I mean, some some very thin white aeros socks don’t really cause you to overheat. Look, maybe Roglitch has particularly hot ankles. Well, he said he just wanted a tan for his holiday, but I think I I don’t know. I would speculate that maybe Rogich is self-sabotaging. Okay, that’s another story. We’ve talking about Rogich’s ankles and socks for far too long already. Let’s talk about some other tech. Okay, let’s let’s flip some best stuff that you’ve seen. Yeah. Well, the area that I was going to that’s given me most points to discuss has been the mountain time trial. Okay? Because I feel like it’s thrown well, it threw a massive curveball into everyone’s decision on equipment, right? Some people were like, “Right, I’m sticking to time travel bikes.” Some people went road bikes. Some people went time travel bike with road wheels. Some people went road bike with time travel wheels. Some people rode a time travel bike with a road helmet. Some people rode a road bike with a time travel helmet. The options were endless. There was of course only one actual fastest solution and what would you suggest that you think it was? Well, I would say right that it was the fastest solution is the time trial bite and the the the setup that was used by Lipovitz and Roglitch who both performed relative to their peers and how they’ve done in the rest of the race very well in the time trial. Yeah. And again, there was lots of speculation on various podcasts, various people talking about this. I heard like you know George Hinapp and Lance Armstrong on the talking about this. Um and and you know Pagata used the road bike because he can get more power out on the road bike saying um which which is which is fair enough. Um, however, the school of thought that led to Ragglitch and Lipovich using that and the reason why that’s the best setup is because you know Dan Bigum and Johnny Whale will have been behind that equipment choice. They will have tested everything out and their thought process and and their approach to that is you you reverse engineer the event and you train for the demands of the event. So knowing a year in advance that you have a mountain time trial, train on your TT bike in the TT position going uphill. Yeah. And then if you adapt your body so that it can do that and you can get the power out in that position where you can really maximize the advantage of arrow makes a huge amount of difference on climbs and people underestimate it. Even at amateur speeds, it makes a big difference. But at the speeds those guys are going at over 20k an hour. It surprised me that it threw up so many different curve balls. But talking about Pagata doing it on his road bike, obviously the Arrow road bike as well. Um had no paint on it. It was all tricked out and then they made some modifications to the Y1 RS to make it I want to say they got it to 6.8 or 6.9 kilos. Yeah. I mean the the there’s a lot of chat about paint as well and you know people say you know paint weighs 200 g 300 g something like that which you know often does add a lot of weight but we have seen in the past super lightweight finishes used um notably I remember on uh Cavendish’s S5 from several years ago. Yeah. So this I didn’t know this. Tell tell us more about it. So they used this special um paint job which apparently cost thousands and thousands of pounds which was Formula 1 Tech. Yeah. Um and it was done by like Silverstone Paint Solutions or something they were called. They were a company based at Silverstone who did the paint for Formula 1 cars. And this paint job, it looked amazing. It was all green and shiny. Okay. I do kind 16 g. Really? Apparently. That’s mad. And also, I got a bonus fun fact, just a butt in. Sorry. Most Formula 1 cars are not painted anymore. Most of them use vinyl wrap now, do they? Yeah. Yeah. It’s a bit of a change. Maybe we’ll see that. Vinyl wrap’s heavy. Well, apparently if they’ve got a weight if they’ve got a weight that they’ve got to hit anyway. Yeah. And cuz they’re changing the the liveries a lot as well. So, it’s just like rip one off, bang a new one on, done. And then if they replace parts at the racetrack as well. Any Sorry, I’ll cut you. No, no, no. That’s uh that’s cool. But anyway, yeah, that’s uh that was something that was was used. So that’s that’s the kind of tech that is available for these if they really wanted it for top end riders like Pikachu. Yeah. I also saw the Barra Marita time trial set up. This was this surprised me actually cuz they went like a couple of components that I wouldn’t have expected a World Tour team to switch out on their bikes. It’s something that amateur riders and uber nerds would have done, but they ran a super lightweight cassette and some super lightweight uh cranks from brands I think most people would have not heard of. So, the lightweight EL carbon cranks, which I think are around 100 g lighter. No, they’re super light. I’ve uh I I used those on the lightweight build I did of the Or Yeah. And also a six wheel titanium cassette, which it just surprised me. some bits. I mean, one of Yeah, a load of these bits can be swapped out, you know, and I think this was something that when there was the final time trial that the G Thomas lost to Primo Rugglitch. Yeah. In the Jiro couple years back, there was just loads of missed opportunities on his Pinarello that to make it lighter that they could have done. It’s actually Yeah. He’s saying things like you’re swapping out your your through axles to carbon um not carbon fiber ones, but titanium ones. Yeah. Save so much weight on a this great bike. Well, having spoken about the mountain time, the mix of different setups, I don’t think there was a greater variation of wheels I’ve ever seen in a different race before. Yeah, the mullet the sort of mullet setup. I mean, it makes it makes sense having the deep front because the front wheel makes more difference than the rear wheel. I think, you know, you get a sail effect from the rear wheel. Um, and you know, there is an argument that you’d want to use a disc wheel, but it it’s how great is that sail effect going to be depending on the wind conditions on on the climb on the day. You know, they can they can estimate that, but there’s huge things that interfere with the wind conditions because you’re surrounded by this tunnel of the crowd on on on the climb. So, that’s that’s going to disrupt the wind. Tell you what, I would love for someone to have modeled this and like got some real accurate details on. That would be crazy. Yeah. Well, I the other person I spoke to about this was um Zavier Dizzley from from Aero Coach who who you know consults with teams on setups and things like this for for exactly this kind of event. Um he was also adamant that the time trial bike was the the faster faster solution and again it’s that thing of like train for the demands of the event. Yeah. Train so that you can use the time trial bike on that stage and you will go faster. The thing is though is Pagata is such an outlier. huge. His his performance is just outrageous. Like because the crazy thing is is even on the on the flatter section where the time trial bike should be significantly quicker on the runin because it was it was a flat bit for several kilometers than the the climb. He was faster than everyone else on a road bike, which is is it’s it’s my the wheel set gone. I mean, the point is is like if if the point we’re making is that if Patcha had trained to ride the time trial bike in a lightweight build, he blown away up the hill, he would have won by even more. Yeah. Um, but yeah, I mean, Zav posted a crazy stat that he he’d worked out as well. This is my favorite stat from the tour so far. He calculated that Pagatcha, even if Pagatcha had had carried like strapped a 20 kg suitcase to his back, yeah, he still would have retained the yellow jersey on the time trial. Well, I what blew my mind right even more is you got to explain to people this isn’t just on the basis of Pagata being 20 kg heavier, but also the additional aerodynamic drag. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, he’s that he’s that dominant. He’s got that big a lead and he can produce that much power. He can actually carry his hand. He wouldn’t have won the stage, but he would have retained the yellow jersey. Doesn’t even need a team car to move his luggage around. He just take it with him. Oh jeez. Also, Tom Patcher. So, he had that um little tumble towards the end of I can’t remember what stage it was the other week. Um, and instead of doing what most teams and riders do, having a massive bandage on his arm, they’ve got the wound dressing underneath what is essentially like an arrow sleeve. I think he’s cut the end off an arrow sock and he’s put that on. That’s a good idea. I’m here for it. That’s a good idea. I can’t believe no one has thought of doing that before. That’s good. Yeah. Arrow dressings. Arrow dressings. Get those on. Why not? If you’ve got I I think the Oh, so so another piece of worst tech that worst tech they seem to be these blumbing nose things. You think so? These have been around before, right? And you’re you’ve spotted more, have you? You thinking or are you thinking it’s like just that was a bad thing? I’ve like um Adam Yates has been wearing one. Oh no. on on I’ve seen him doing interviews post race with his like nostrils flared big flary nostril I mean I mean right full I’ve never tried one of these nose pieces don’t knock until you tried it but okay right it’s not for me I put down a no for that it’s not for me but I don’t think I don’t think they’re as bad as um grown sunglasses from last year the Batman nose piece yeah I tried them out Europe the other yeah Not cool. They’ve disappeared. Um, well, this year as well, it’s I I feel bad like trying to pick out like what things I don’t like, but whatever. I’m here for it. Um, Victor Campar is using that Jurro Time Trail helmet on all of the road stages. Like this, this pains me. I get it. It’s faster. Whatever. Come January, it’s banned. So, don’t worry about it. Perfect. Thank goodness for that. Um, another gadget that I is think is actually really cool tech and I’ve seen more and more of this year. Core temperature sensors. Right now, we’ve spoken about this a lot. You and I have used them as well. But I don’t know if this is, you know, the case when you’re aware of something, you see it on people more. Is it because I’m aware of it more? I’m noticing it more or is it more minehoff? Yeah. Or is it that we’re seeing actually more riders use it? But I did see an interesting article right the other day. Um, and it was from the lead track coach, Matias Wreck, who says that teams are now signed to use heat training in conjunction with like altitude training. And you they’re saying some of the heat training can help prolong the effect of the altitude training. Really? Yeah. So, I’ve got a little quote here that says, um, heat training isn’t just for hot stages. It’s how we maintain altitude gains, improve fatigue resistance, and sharpen race day readiness without the need for a secondary altitude camp. Um, so yeah, it’s pretty cool. It is really interesting. Like the the heat the heat training thing is has been an absolute game changer for me. Yeah. And you know, last week and I was riding in in southern France and it was really hot, like 38° and stuff. And um I was still able to to to, you know, do good function good power and stuff. Yeah. And like when I’ve ridden in that kind of temperatures before, it’s been less out. And my friends that I was with who haven’t done heat training, they were all really dying and struggling. Cool. Cool as a cucumber% it helps. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Well, I mean I I think it was a big thing for me. Unbound. Not done any heat training since though. So the effects have probably gone now. Get back in the sack in it. Yeah. Sauna in the morning. And right more tech moving away from the tour to France. Um we’ve got the lightweight lightweight wheels I spoke about at the start of the show. So kind of crazy, right? If people are not familiar with the brand, they make these like uber bling, uber premium wheels. I’ve been to the factory. It’s in Friedrich Sharen where Eurobike used to be. Yeah. Um Yeah. Pretty cool. Tell us more about the wheels. 1,190 g they’re claiming. Um and they feature alpha rib technology. I don’t know what it is, but neither do I. I love and it’s just this crazy new construction technique where they’re like they’ve got added stiffness cuz the the sort of normal hollow rim cavity on a carbon wheel is kind of they’ve like ribbed it on the inside. It’s kind of like alpha alpha alpha ribbing. Yeah. Right. We joke but they um they claimed to have a 20% improvement in aerodynamics over the previous versions. Do you want to know the price you have to pay for this kind of alpha rib technology? How much are the alpha ribs going to set me back? €6,990. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, that’s basically a third of what we get paid for a GCN tech show. So, yeah, we by the end of the show, we buy three sets each. Yeah. For Brendan as well. There you go. Yeah. Perfect. Right. Enough chat about that. Let’s talk about um upgrades which are particularly achievable and accessible to the mass market. New inner tubes. Oh, right. PL have just launched a new inner tube. Hang on. I’ve got I’ve got some stats here. You carry on. You got stats. I’m ready. Okay. New Smart Tube RS. If you’re not familiar, Smart Tube is their like TPU thermoplastic inner tube that’s sort of lightweight, good for rolling resistance. And the changes here are, do you want to run through the stats? It’s basically lighter, faster, more puncture resistant. I mean, that’s the quickest way, but you got some data. Gosh. Right. So, um, compared to their normal tube, there’s a rolling resistance gain, their previous uh, tube. So, um, if you run one of the new ones in, um, a TLR tubeless ready P 0 tire, yes, they they’ve calculated that you’re looking at, uh, 12.4 watts of rolling resistance. Okay. Whereas, if you use the new Smart Tube RS, they reckon it’s 9.8 W of rolling resistance. So, a significant change. Couple of watts there just from the tube. Yeah, quite a lot. Um, and interestingly, if you run that same tire with sealant, they reckon it’s a little bit faster. So, they said they they’re saying 9.6 W of rolling resistance with sealant, 9.8 watts with the Smart Tube RS. Oh, so that’s that’s real close. It’s it’s Yeah. So, what I think that does do, which is good, is it gives people a real like good choice between like, do you want to go premium inner tube or do you want to go tubeless? And you’re not having like a massive loss in terms of rolling resistance. No. There you go. That’s good. Good thing for me. And also finally in hot tech, um, we should discuss that we have some big French bike ride themed water bottles available at shop.global cycling there. Oh, here you go. Oh, here’s one we prepared earlier. These are actually really cool. I don’t have any of these yet. Do you? Yeah, I’ve got two. Two? Yeah. I haven’t got any. We got have matching bottles on your bike. I think I might actually just steal this one. And right, more hot tail next week. There’s also a second one over there. I’ll steal that as well. Okay. Right. Straight into comments of the week. This is where you’ve left comments underneath our videos from last week. We read them out. Easy. Um, you want to go from the show from last week? Yes. Uh, hang on a minute. Yeah. Sorry, I just spaced out then. Um, right. So, last week’s last week’s show. Yeah, it was me and Fergus talking about how road bikes become boring. Okay. Oat monster. He says oat monster. Well, first oat monster. What is that? That’s like a lame version of Cookie Monster. It’s the healthy version. Healthy version of Cookie Monster. Yeah. He says, “Yeah, all road bikes look the same. Let’s go back to steel tubes where they all look totally different.” Yeah. Okay. You raised a good point. Whatever. Andrew Duncan4908 says, “The trouble with blaming the UCI is that without their rules, the main innovation that would win races would be fed recumbents. Is that what we really want?” No, it’s not. Imagine that. Well, we spoke about this with um with Josh a while back when we made the first video that was about said what would happen if tour of France had no rules. Remember? And he said everyone would be a fed recumbent. It would be absolute death trap out there. Imagine how fast you go on the descent in a faired recumbent. Well, I think this would be the danger. You’d have like faired recumbents like bashing into each other. Like wacky races. We don’t need that. Yeah. Um Cl. Yeah. Says, “For God’s sake, it’s simple physics. Hold the bell down when ringing it.” Unbelievable. Fergus was new on the show last week. Everyone does this when they’re new on the show. Hold the bell up like that and really got let it dangle. Yeah, I’ll demo in a bit. Um, also, so we had the coolest team retro team car at the weekend as well. Yeah. From Steve Grim. Yeah. You gave everyone big rundown on that. So, do you want to read the comments now? Yeah. Uh, this is from Mamemedi. He says, um, it started with Connor’s Gubbins. Now, let’s keep Ollie’s classics rolling. GCN absolutely fantastic bit of nostalgia. Well done, Mr. to uh Grimwood though he called him Greenwood. It’s Grimwood. Same name. Yeah. Yeah. It was amazing that car though. It’s beautiful what he’s done. It’s really cool. Yeah, that’s cool. Uh what else we got here? Oh, the the chain clean video right where Sai just whipped out the world’s dirtiest chain that I’ve ever seen in my entire life. Quite frankly, I was embarrassed for him. Um and then this comment here, like a cactus, says, “Presumably Ollie is off to the side of this video. shaking his head at both size treatment of the chain and Alex’s explanation of soap chemistry. I mean, fortunately, I wasn’t off to the side of camera. I don’t think I could have been. I was I was in France. But share your frustrations. Come on. It’s a safe space for I don’t know where I begin. What was wrong with my explanation of safe chemistry? It was all right. There you go then. Yeah. Like I’m I’m the kind of guy where all right is fine with me. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Um, so correct me if I’m wrong. Soap, the purpose of it, it does some sort of chemical magical wizardry with the oil that allows the oil to bind into the water rather than like repelling against each other. You literally lost some words. In layman’s terms, right? Okay. Okay. In layman’s terms, you’ve got a molecule. Okay. A soap is a long relatively long molecule. You can’t start with In layman’s terms, you have a molecule. Yeah, you can. Okay. Yeah, you can. So, you got a molecule, right? And one end of the molecule bonds to water and one end of the molecule bonds to like fat and oil and okay, that’s the technical term. And so, it’s able to whereas a lot of the time, you know, those two things are like immissible. Okay. So I really really did like sort of toddler explanation of it. Well, I mean that was a toddler explanation. Yeah. Yeah. I I took it another level down. Yeah. Great. Moving on. Bike vault. Yeah. Yeah. Right. It’s now time for the bike vault. This is the part of the show where you upload pictures of your bike by using the link in the description down below and we judge them to be nice or super nice. If they are super nice, we ring the bell with a bell hanging down. Uh, first up this week, we’ve got Austo. Okay. With uh his Sunday ride around New York brackets. Love this bike. M. It’s a nice It’s a It’s a Canyon Ultimate CFSL DI2. Love it. And it’s um it’s in ash gray. It’s got Shimano 105 DT Swiss wheels. And he says, right, it’s not leaning against the concrete pillar on the frame. Good. I was worried about that. I think that’s cuz it’s it’s it’s the pedal is there. That’s all right. Pedal. That’s okay. Um that’s really nice though. Yeah. Super nice. Reminds me Reminds me of our our time in No. I knew you were going to say it. That’s how you pronounce That’s what it’s called. It is. We had a great time in New York. Yeah. Right, gophus next with a Ribble CG R A L E. This has got a list of upgrades. Gravel King tires, old set of Shimano pedals, new narrow bars, new bar tape, red shift stem, Elchipo, 20 mil suspension, seat post, new saddle, Rock Shock rear mud, generic under generic under top tube top bag, also front and rear bike cams. That rear one is attached on with what appears to be some macano. Remember macano? That’s a throwback, wasn’t it? It’s still going love sets. Um, okay. What do we think of the bike? Um, wrong gears. It’s just not really presented. I mean, let’s find like the the most unkempt grass and bushes possible to, you know, but brown saddle, brown bar tape. Well, you’re going to love that, aren’t you? It’s a nice. Yeah, it’s just a nice. Sorry. Should be a super nice. Right. Matt Lynn 3784 Tarmac SL8. Um I’m sorry. I’m just You got to read the rest of it and then look at the picture. Uh so I’ll read out. So Tarmac SLA says, “Sorry, it was distracted by the gorgeous ribble CGR.” So it’s obviously from the tour to France, right? He’s a stage seven and I’m sorry it’s a jy angle but this gorgeous ribble CGR SL outside of San Marlo. Yeah. Took his attention. Go on then. I like what he’s done there. Very good. Yeah. 10 out of 10 for that. Super nice. 10 out of 10 for for pants. Super nice. There we go. Dan Cen. Uh he says this bike is Connor done ready. It’s a CAD 12 and he is just basic. I think what he means by that is he’s just crashed in crashed and magnetized all the accessories on cycled through Halfords and just had everything just stick to the bike and then rode out the other side just gubbinsed up gubbins central. I kind of quite like the bike though. I don’t think that is Connor done ready because it doesn’t have any wing mirrors on it. No, it doesn’t have um a big mud guard. a mud guard that only stops a tiny bit of mud. Yeah, rubbish mud guard on that. He loves those. Although Connor does always have mismatched bottles as well. Yeah, Connor does do that. Yeah. Um Yeah, I’m just going to say a nice unfortunate. I think it’s a nice like could be a lot could be super nice with some minor changes. I’m going to leave the next username to you, Shrain. Gluke click. Gluke click. Great. Hey, I think that was perfect. I forgot the umblap the first time around. Yeah, that was actually honestly that was honestly perfect. Bianke. Uh yes. Found the largest Bianke frame we could find. Bracket 63 cm. Cleaned uh touched up the bike and clear coated it and then given it to the groups of people. Very happy with the result. This is beautiful. White saddle, white bar tape. Look at that. Look at that that uh that stem there in the seat post. ched and polished up. You know, I’m going to I’m going to sound like a real old man. They don’t make them like that anymore. That is very nice, isn’t it? Yeah, that is very nice. Should we see if that’s 100% super nice? 100%. That is beautiful. Next up, we have bike curious Dave. I like that name. Officina Batain Roma the He says at the end of this year’s Dalich Dynamo 180 km ride through the night from Hackne to the Suffuk coast. He said we should do it. Must do it next year. That’d be good. I’d be up for doing that. Yeah, do that as a thing. 180 km is a bit short for you. Yeah, this is I tell you there’s something about these this this type of bike. I love it. It’s good that super bling, isn’t it? It’s very nice. Has it has it propped up? Is there is there a shadow stand involved here or what? I think there’s a shadow stand. The if I was going to be totally honest, which I’m going to be, the saddle bag isn’t in keeping what with what I would say is the ethos of this bike. No, I think that that that bike is incredible, right? It is incredible, but the the saddle bag is just not it’s just it’s letting it down, isn’t it? Yeah. Also, we’ve got Campello. It’s like having what that is. That is like having a It’s like having like a a really incredible Ferrari. Yeah. Right. And then putting a roof box. Yeah. For the family holiday. Yeah. Yeah. On it. All right. Um, no. Nice. It’s a nice. It should be That should be a super nice. You could have done clipped the saddle bag. Resubmit that with a saddle bag got an immediate super nice for both of us. Yeah, that is ruining it. It’s mass. It’s not. And it’s I don’t neat little saddle bags. All right. But what is in that thing? Duh. Well, talking of those new P RS smart tubes, you can get about 10 of those in there. Probably more. Um, anyway, right, that’s it. That’s the last last bike for this week’s bike, which means this week’s show has drawn to a close. Um, it’s been good to have you back. Good to chat, mate. Talk about bikes and tech at the tour to France. And um, well, we out of here. Should we go get lunch? Yeah, I’m starving. Right. See you. Bye.

What's been your favourite (or least favourite) piece of tech from the Tour de France so far? Let us know in the comments!
No socks makes for better tan
Armstrong and Hincapie shouldnt be nr pro cycling after the damage they caused in serial doping/cheating and lieing
Is the new TPU tube now faster than latex?
GCN, the wost tech is Ben Healy’s neck. No aero and needed chiropractor😂
Great to have you back, Ollie.
Sorry but I want my tanlines to be covered by my everyday shorts and socks
Come on! A soap explanation without using the adjectives hydrophobic and hydrophilic.
I like nose straps. I have a S shaped septum. Therefore one nosehole has decreased air flow. With the nose strap it is better. And sometimes i like breathing through my nose more, because it lowers my heart rate.
I liked that Campanarts’ TT helmet on road stages made. It easy to see where he was from a distance, but up close? 🥺
Wout Van Aert and other Red Bull riders have been wearing sunglasses with little nose hoods. They really look weird to me. There was a stage with Wout crossing the finish line with a teammate and all I could think was "Those are the stupidest looking glasses"
Ollie you´re my Hero! Let´s start a pedition that says anklesocks are banned from Venus to at least Jupiter for eternity!! 😂😂 It is really funny isn´t it? When doin or watching triathlon the most normal thing is to ride without socks, but watching this i´ve really to asmit it is akward on a yet not known level 🤣
Why do pro cyclists wear such tall socks if they can't wear shin guards, and speaking of shin guards no knee or elbow pads, is the UCI really trying to prevent people from becoming aero or does the UCI really hates her athletes.
No socks will always weigh less than aero socks. And when you've got Rapunzel riding around in the peleton, aero is a bit of a joke anyway.
My nostrils, for whatever reason, get gunked up quite fast, and those nose pieces help with that.
ankle socks are boss. Why wear footballers socks and shin pads? Bloody disgrace. Last time I checked, we're not racing in the Tour de France. Get over it!
You've set me off now about the ankle socks. Here's my list of what I don't like about modern cycling:
disc brakes
narrow handlebars
through axles
fat tires over 23 mm
carbon rims – rims should not cost a thousand pounds
aero socks
tt helmets – hideous
jerseys with sleeves to the elbows
shorts down to the knees
brown wall tires
tubeless tires
gigantic sunglasses
power meters
gps computers
obsession witn carb loading while cycling
Pro racing used to be beautiful, now it's just data
"Even with +20kg, Pogacar would have retained the yellow jersey.": There is an elephant in the room, that cannot be explained by tech or training, isn't it?
We know skin suits work, we know aero socks work why is there not a full lenth skin suit almost like a wet suit. Why do they all just go to shorts length. Surely full leg would be better
Alpha ribbed for her pleasure
Pirelli should've disclosed the rolling resistance for the clincher tyre too. Maybe time for a GCN tech video.
Tadej can win the tour de France wearing jeans 👖. He is the new Armstrong.
Caring this much about socks is the kind of pretentiousness you all claim to be against
Regardé avec la traduction française par IA. Mort de rire ! 😂
I hate the long stockings, oops socks. Makes the tan lines look bad!!! Much prefer the shorter ankle socks!
I hate it when everyone wears the same “ uniform”….school boys outfits
Ollie "we''ew back together, it's been ages"
Alex "it's been great"
🤣
IWell, 'm glad you're back Ollie . You bring expertise to the show
Fastest tt bike easy Pog, aero and light it was a hill climb he gave nothing away on the flat gained more on the hill it’s not even a discussion
Nose strips nothing new there’s a current world tour pro been using them for 10 + years
The Dan and Si of the Tech Show, together again! 😀
Sometimes, like early on a Sunday morning, it just soothes the soul to hear Ollie talking about aero. 😀
Last bike in the Bike Vault reveals Ollie to be entering his Stingy Man Era. 😀
Pogi probably didn’t want his forearm on the TT skis given it was all bandaged up. Sometimes just being more comfortable is faster.
Aag, leave his ankle socks, shame. 😂
13:10 Baader Meinhof?? Hahaha
Ollie…. No “love you, bye!”?? I gasped at the end of the show
