welcome back folks to a brand new video shrouded in myths and legends and steeped in thousands of years of History Edinburgh is a city like no other with a wonderful mix of architecture winding cobblestone streets a taste of Harry Potter atmospheric Alleyways and one of the best castles in Scotland it’s hard to beat edinburgh’s charm and every type of traveler will definitely find something to do in this wonderful Scotch City so whether you’re only here for a day or even a week let’s take a look at some of the best places to visit in [Music] Edinburgh number one Arthur’s seat now this is not some kind of comfortable sofa by a man called Arthur but in fact it was created by volcanic activity over 300 million years ago and it’s one of the most iconic places to go in Edinburgh to watch the sunset to see how the Sun gradually disappears behind the Horizon is something that you ought to see sitting at the edge of the historic Royal Mile right next to the Hollywood Palace and the park spreads across a vast area and the highest point of the park is Arthur seat at 251 M so there are plenty of walking trails all around the park the hike is fairly easy and well worth the effort just to see the breathtaking view over the cityscapes of Edinburgh and Beyond number two hly Roode Palace the official residence of the British monarch in Edinburgh and one of the top attractions in the city so this Grand Palace stands at the East End of the royal Mile with Offa seat in the background now this 16th century Palace was closely associated with Mary Queen of Scots so you can explore the grand interiors and the collections of different Flemish and French tapestries in the state Apartments but you can also see the Two Thrones commissioned by King George in 1911 but outside the palace you will find the ruins of the historic holwood Abbey which actually played an important role in edinburgh’s history [Music] number three Edinburgh Castle sitting right at the top of the historic Royal mile stands a magnificent Fortress and a prominent part of the City’s iconic Skyline steeped in over 900 years of History its dramatic setting on an extinct volcanic plug provides a stunning view over Edinburgh now the oldest surviving structure of the castle is the S Margaret’s Chapel built in the early 12th century by King David the he named the small chapel after his beloved mother Queen however some historians believe that the origins of the Fortress and the features of this area are actually much older it costs roughly around £18 online or 21 if you walk up and purchase on the day [Music] a [Music] and now we come to the Royal [Music] mile now this is an unmissable part of sightseeing in Edinburgh the street is actually longer than a mile and the term Royal mile refers to Scots mile an old Scottish measuring unit which became kind of obsolete in the 18th century now the Royal mile is one of the thoroughfares in the city it runs from the historic Castle to the Hollywood Palace an iconic Street that’s lined with famous city landmarks souvenir shops museums you know the traditional pubs restaurants Etc now if you visit in August the area comes alive with plenty of things to do street performers and things like that also watch out for the narrow Alleyways known as as closes Advocates clothes anchor clothes and white horse clothes which are actually quite photogenic or your Instagram [Music] St and you probably think we’re here to talk about that edinburgh’s toll bir prison and as the name kind of gives it away it was a prison and everyone hated it slap bang in the middle of your city center right on your High Street but it wasn’t just criminals get thrown in but also innocent people thrown in quite brutally tortured at times this is a very common site up and down the Royal Mile in all the side streets you’ll see hundreds of them it’s a close there’s so many of these because those used to be the streets of Edinburgh that’s all they had between the buildings this was the exception it was for royalty connects the castle in the palace it was always pretty big the rest were like that the reason that’s the case Edinburgh used to be very small and it used to have big number five the real Mary King’s close so when you are in Edinburgh one of the best places to visit is the real Mary King’s clo and it’s hidden right beneath the Royal mile it’s a maze of narrow streets and alleys that have been almost perfectly preserved from the 17 Century now back in the day this place was full of life with merchants and families living and working there but over time it was sealed off and buried under the city’s expansion turning it into an underground world of mystery but today the good thing is you can take a tour through these dimly lit passageways and get a real sense of what life was like back then the stories that you’ll hear Tales of people that used to live there the struggles they faced especially during the plague and the Eerie legends that have grown over the years because if you haven’t realized by now Edinburgh is one of the best places to visit for all those kind of haunted things and is actually one of the city’s most haunted spots but also incredibly rich and dense in history and it’s the best place if you want a unique window into the city [Music] past number six is Victoria Street and grass market and grass Market is one of the most vibrant and liveliest places in the old town you see in past centuries public hangings used to take place right here for the late 18th century it even has some of the oldest pubs in Edinburgh one of them is the whiteart Inn which is at least 500 year old Pub where many famous people spent the night including William Wordsworth it was also frequented by the notorious Body Snatchers of the 18th century Burk and hair but nowadays grass Market is home to many events and here’s a tip for you if you are going to any of these pubs in Grass Market take the time to read the story boards at the entryway of each Pub cuz the stories are actually quite [Music] fascinating now Edinburgh is a great place for walking and frequently referred to as the Diagon Alley of Edinburgh Victoria Street is one of the most photographed streets in the city it’s like a magic Alleyway that will make you disappear from the hisor grass market and pop you out at the iconic Royal [Music] mile number seven gray frer kirkyard now as we go deeper into edinburgh’s Oldtown we head to gray fr’s kirkyard which is a historic Cemetery renowned for its haunting atmosphere and its Rich past it was established in the 16th century gray fries is the final resting place of many notable Scots and also famous for the tale of GRA Bobby which was a loyal Terrier that guarded his master’s grave for 14 years you’ll be able to see a little statue which became a symbol of its unwavering Devotion to its Master but just a stone throw away stroll along candle makers row which is a historic Street that’s lined with centuries old buildings that once housed edinburgh’s candle makers now the street and Cemetery together weave a narrative of edinburgh’s Darker history and you’ll start to get to understand because it’s filled with stories of grave robbers ghostly apparitions and the infamous McKenzie Poltergeist so if you are into that I mean Edinburgh is such a fantastic City to experience all of that [Music] [Music] number eight dean Village right in a deep valley on the water of La Dean Village is only just a few minutes away from the busy Edinburgh City Center now this is a picturesque neighborhood and it stands out for its colorful half timbered houses the medieval cobbled streets and the Highlight the idilic Riverside setting you know for over 800 years Dean Village was a bustling site with various thriving Industries and Mills that used to harness the power from the water of La now this is a great part of Edinburgh if you want to kind of disappear Escape From The Busy Center and go for a long scening [Music] walk number nine camera obscure now apparently this is the top attraction in Edinburgh if you want to have fun for all the family I don’t know about you but I wouldn’t say this is the top attraction but you will be amazed whatever your age there were five flaws of interactive Curiosities Illusions all these kind of mad things so you can basically lose yourself in the mirror ma or try to keep your balance in a very exhilarating Vortex tunnel the tickets cost £23 for adults and £18 for children under 15 and if by chance it doesn’t rain you can get a great view of Edinburgh via the rooftop number 10 National Museum now Scotland is known for having unpredictable weather and if you happen to get caught in the rain which will happen you might be wondering what to do visit the national museum of Scotland it has one of the best indoor attractions in edin and it’s free can spend the day learning about the catacombs of Egypt in Scotland what bro what are you talking about man I’ll let you guys think more on that but if the sun does make an appearance head up to the rooftop Terrace to enjoy amazing views of the city [Music] number 11 Princess Street and the Scott Monument so as well as the beautiful architecture to admire in Edinburgh you will also find plenty of green areas to relax in and around the town to take a to take a wander through Prince’s Street [Music] Gardens build on a former sight of a lock and have a look at the mound the artificial Hill connec to the old and new town and around the gardens you could admire the Scot Monument or visit the Scottish National [Music] Gallery can even climb the Scot Monument if you want to see some gorgeous views of Edinburgh from the rooftops [Music] and finally number 12 Calon Hill now this is a volcanic Hill Rising beyond the Eastern end of prin Street and it boasts a collection of some of edinburgh’s most important monuments as well as offering fantastic panoramic views of the city you see in the 19th century edinb was envisaged as the Athens of the north and counton Hill was considered edin’s version of the Athenian Acropolis so this is a great attraction to either 1. Thank you for sharing all this wonderful information! Scotland is at the top of my bucket list! My great grandfather came to America from Scotland! I can’t wait to visit!

  2. Great video. I’ve been watching your stuff for years and my wife and I are finally coming to the UK and Ireland for a month, leaving in 3 weeks! Your videos have been a great help in planning the trip! Thanks!

  3. Just to be pedantic, there are not a lot of cobblestones in Edinburgh. Thay are brick-shaped, not pebble-shaped, and are called 'setts'.
However, they do seem to be as tricky to walk on in high heels. From observation, I do not wear high heels.

  4. everything mentioned is in the City Centre, get further out! 44 bus to Balenro and check out the Harlaw reservoir, you can also start walking along the 20 mile water of leith from Balerno. Corstorphine Hill, Pentland Hills, Cramond, Botanic Gardens, Musselburgh, two football stadiums. Get outside the City centre and explore the real Edinburgh! Great bus transportation anywhere in the city

  5. Beautiful city. Was just there. Insanely hard walks from the neslon monument to arthurs seat. Called a locksmith and we agreed on a price, then when he showed up he tried to grift me. Said it was 594 pounds sterling to pick a 25 pound lock lol. I could have booted the door off the hinges and replaced it for less. Im a home builder. I confronted the crook, he reduced his price to 100 pounds, which was still steep, but better than over 500 lol. Its a great city, but its full of homeless and crooks waiting to prey on the unknowing. Be careful.

  6. what a great video 🙂 one question: was it easy to fly in town with your drone? i want to take mine with me when i go there in a few weeks..but i'm unsure if its allowed to fly next to the Monument or the castle🤔 even with a official license

  7. My beautiful home city, good film. Two points though:
    1. It’s The Palace of Holyrood House and belongs to the Scottish people.
    2. There is no such thing as a British monarchy/monarch. There is currently King Charles of England. He would also be Charles, King of Scots if he’d taken the oath of ascension. But he didn’t, no monarch has since Anne, Queen of Scots in 1705. It’s probably to do with sovereignty, in England the king is sovereign, having been appointed by god (I shit you not), in Scotland, the people are sovereign and have the right to set the monarch aside if he sells us out to England. You can see chuckies predicament, take the oath of ascension and risk being held to account by the Scots.

  8. Camera obscura is 'fun' but one of the best thing about it is that it's a great bargaining chip if you have kids. "We're going to see something historic and then we can go do something fun for you." There's that, the dungeon and Dynamic Earth

  9. For those looking for the sea, I recommend heading to The Shore, which is where the Water of Leith empties into the Forth. See the mix of old and new building contrast nicely and the rich shipyard history. Easy to get there, jump on the tram from the centre and be there in under 15 minutes!

  10. Yes there plenty more like royal botanical gardens, Edinburgh Zoo, national galleries, Cramond island, Pentlandhills, circus lane, beautiful meadows in summer with cheery blossoms, Colintin tunnel and alot museums 😅

  11. Piękne miasto Edynburg . Dwa razy byłem w tym wspaniałym tajemniczym miescie.. Wierzę, że będę jeszcze nie raz. Pozdrawiam z Polski z Częstochowy 🎉❤🎉

  12. Great video mate with great editing and outstanding music (woyld suggest smoother transition though). What was the music played at Calon hill and outro?
