should the Blades win today he’ll have more promotions on his CV than any manager in Sheffield United’s history A big day for the Boiled Blade who’s become the boss A huge day for all those players The scarves are lofted on the field and we are underway Wonderful scene away to our left hand side Ball given away to Gus Hmer headed towards goal by keeper Ball clawed off the line by Patterson and Gus Hmer take control Towering up the middle of the pitch Closed down by two in white but through it comes to Campbell over the goalkeeper and Sheffield United have taken the lead at Wembley Stadium What a glorious counterattack Sheffield United built and built and accelerated and it came to their top scorer who with the bestest of touches loops the ball over at Sheffield United one Sunderland nil in swings the corner headed away by Ballard Out he comes Wow just wow Sheffield United double their lead on a dream start at Wembley Stadium Well Kavanaaugh looks and turns helped on to kneel again This time the cross hit it with a low trajectory out to Rig Sunderland playing around with the ball at the back Sheffield United opting not to press as referee Kavanaaugh puts the whistle to his mouth and blows for Halime Gus Hmer returns the ball It’s swirling and Andre Brooks gets there into the box He shoots Second chance to shoot In Championship playoff final history the team that ultimately went on to lose and take the lead first has only happened six times as Mundle goes in And Mundle breaks the roof of the Sheffield A spine chewing goal for Sheffield United It’s Sunderland one Sheffield United won Shevel United have had the better chances She United have had the ball in the net twice Now Bellingham goes for goal Grateful recipient to the ball is O’Hare But then the Blades squ possession Here’s Watson 25 yds up That’s it And he’s found the second corner A heartbreaking moment for Sheffield United Can they come back there really isn’t a great deal of time left And it’s Sheffield United one Sunderland two The referee puts the whistle to his mouth and calls full time She United fall at the final hurdle again Just when they thought that their 100year weight for a Wembley win was coming to an end All chances of victory were snuffed out as Sunderland scored two quick second half goals to take that opportunity away from them and with that of course too promotion to the Premier Take

  1. What a truly fine fellow Chris Wilder is. Heart broken at the end he pushed his way into the Sunderland Coaching staff to congratulate the manager. A quality in a man not so often seen these days

  2. Losing to the promotion play off is actually the worst feeling. Imagine doing all the hardwork for 1 whole season to get to the 3rd spot, dominating the semi final, just to lose to the final and most important match. Now, they have to do it all again for another season.

  3. I'm guessing David Webster will be sniggering up his sleeve, and will be sleeping the sleep of the content tonight – well, at least until the next managerial appointment maybe. I gather he wasn't Wilder's biggest fan.
