Düsseldorf to Arnhem
As this trip is approaching the end, day 19 sees me head out of Germany into The Netherlands
Mostly following EuroVelo 15, the Rhine Cycle Way

It is day 19. Keep watching. Find out what goes on today. I’m Roger. This is Roger rides for 18. Today heading from Distorf to Arn. So be crossing the border into the Netherlands. Not 100% certain, but I think the border is actually fairly close to Arnham. Find out when I get there. Should be about 90 mi today. Not surprisingly, pretty flat. I’m looking at the route. I think it’s going to be once I’m clear of Whistleor, I think it’s going to be fairly rural, small towns perhaps. We’ll see how it goes. Well, 5 miles into the ride, it would seem that I’m now clear of Dudeldorf. very pleasant. May not be the most picturesque, but it’s certainly not the worst. Um, yeah, it’s okay. Let’s see what the rest of the day brings. Heat. [Applause] Heat. Heat. Heat. [Music] Well, just um stocked up on water and had a um spaghetti ice with uh wild fon wild fruits. It was absolutely gorgeous. Another one of those later would go down. Nice. EV15 should have come that way. I had no end of trouble trying to plot a route. That’s obviously why because it’s closed. So, I’ve just had to follow a detour. Maybe if I plotted the detour, it would have let me. Anyway, I’m here somewhere around this point in today’s ride that passed the 2 and 12,000 km mark for this trip. A lot of today’s scenery has been like this flat farmland. I’m not surprised. Probably expected a bit more industrial, but not on any real grounds, just gut feel. It’s been the odd little bit, but as I say, mostly it’s been like this. Reminds me a lot of the Netherlands, but then won’t be too long before I’m crossing the border into that country. So perhaps it’s not surprising. Got about 22 miles to go and currently riding into one hell of a headwind. Struggling to hit 9 miles an hour. Oh well. So, at one stage there, I thought there was a storm going to hit me. Um, it looks a bit sort of yucky over that way, which is where I’ve just come from. Um, fingers crossed. I didn’t really need this headwind this late into the ride, this late into the trip. Oh well, can’t do anything about it. [Applause] closing in on the Dutch border. Um, there’s a sign back there for two villages, one in Germany, one in the Netherlands. The one in the Netherlands was only four miles away. So, we’ll see. So, it’s goodbye Germany. Hello, the Netherlands. Don’t know if that’s the only time I’ll cross the border. if I’m or if I’m going to zigzag it a little bit. Find out and if I will miss it. Yeah. Where are you going to? Last Friday. Yeah. Best wishes. Yes. I was beginning to think the ferry wasn’t running then. Just starting to look at alternatives when it turned up and another woman cycled up. She said it was the last one. So, stroke of luck. Possibly not quite so lucky as that weather over there though. Fingers crossed. About 5 miles to go. Still got this headwind. Uh see some large buildings ahead which is presumably going to be in the town of Arnham, city of Arnham. [Music] A real multi-purpose bridge on the left from this side at least. um cycle lane in the middle road and rail over on the right last mile and a half. Um since the outskirts of the city, well before that bridge actually. Um it’s been fantastic cycle lane like this all the way. Right. Just on the last quarter of a mile or so, maybe not even that. Um, horrendous headwind towards the end of today. Uh, just quite energy sapping. really slowed the pace down. Pace doesn’t bother me, but it has a knock-on effect of destination time. 93 miles as expected. Pretty flat. Just need to have a good look at the weather forecast for tomorrow as I have a ferry to catch. If I get a horrible headwind like today, I may have to reassess a bit. Anyway, thank you for watching. See you tomorrow. standing.
