[Music] i’m excited and also nervous to kick off a new series of videos that I want to start doing i’ve had the idea for weeks i basically kept doubting myself and chickening out of it i kept thinking that no one will watch the videos it’s not going to be interesting enough combined with the I guess the embarrassment of the thought of vlogging and speaking to a camera in public by yourself i really do want to start vlogging and showing you guys Bristol it’s such a cool city that has so much to offer and I’ve spent so much time showing you the house the renovation and yet so little of what it’s like living in Bristol and life as a local which I think is so much more interesting than me painting the walls of a two-bedroom Victorian suck it up and give it a go and I’m hoping that over time the more I do it and get used to it that the videos will become better so it will only get better from here okay so I’ve got that off my chest let’s talk about where I want to take you guys today so for the very first vlog I want to take you guys to the harbor side and if you haven’t already guessed we’re going to cycle there we’re going to whiz down the Bristol Bath cycle path which is a cycle path that links Bristol and Bath you guessed it it used to be an old railway line and now it’s completely traffic free and it’s such a nice flat path for runners walkers cyclists and it’s just such a nice way to get into the city so I’ll definitely show you that but when we get to the harbor we’re going to go to the SS Great Britain which is a ship and it’s Bristol’s number one attraction and something I’m actually a little bit ashamed to say I have never done so according to Google the ship was built in 1843 it was designed by Isizenbard Kingdom Brunell one of the best engineers of the 19th century the ship was the first ironhauled steam powered passenger ship and it also used a screw propeller making the ship faster durable and more cost effective for traveling to New York and then after we’re done with the ship I want to take you guys to the Arnold Feny Art Gallery it’s a contemporary art gallery at the harbor but it’s in such a nice building it’s like a grade two listed Georgian building they have a bunch of exhibitions all throughout the year both paid and free but I especially love their cute bookshop and also their cafe/bar they are so lucky with the location they’ve also got a really sizable outdoor seating area but on a sunny day the people of Bristol will go to places like the harbor get a bunch of drinks a bunch of food and we will just sit on the wall and watch the sun go down which I think is so nice i can’t think of another city especially around here that where people do that and I think after that that will be enough for the first vlog so I hope you guys enjoy it if you do enjoy this video and you want to see more vloggy Bristoly content can you please like the video just so I know and also comment down below anything you want to particularly see different areas points of attraction or just general life in Bristol i’m going to stop talking now let’s go for a cycle [Music] [Music] [Music] i’ve just arrived in central Bristol while I’m here I just wanted to show you guys the start of the Bristol Bath Cycle Path from the Bristol side it’s located on Trinity Street i’ll show you on the maps too just so you can get an idea of where we are in my opinion I find this a little bit underwhelming it’s quite hidden it’s not very well advertised or that attractive especially with that tatty old sign and yet how unique that two cities are linked by a flat psychopath i think it’s so cool so I feel like Bath and Bristol Council should do a little crowdfunding and make both entrances a little bit more obvious and more colorful i also wanted to stop and show you guys one of Bristol’s best bakeries it’s called Bake House here it is i’ll have to take you guys inside another time because their toasties and their cakes are too good to not share we’re now passing through Castle Park one of Bristol’s central parks and it gets its name from the medieval Bristol Castle which was demolished in the 18th century it’s a popular park not only for locals who come here on their lunch break or to chill after work or the weekend but also it hosts larger events in Bristol like the Bristol Harbor Festival and Bristol Pride and I’ll definitely share both those events with you as well from the park you cross over the bridge and you’re in the Welshback area this used to be a trading area with ships particularly visiting from Welsh ports in fact one of the pubs behind me is named after Landogo in Wales which used to build trowboats and they would sail to Bristol and transport goods and here we have Bristol Bridge i think this is so interesting it used to look like the Pont Veio in Florence so it was once a bustling spot filled with houses shops and even a chapel in the middle which was built in 1361 which acted as a gate house our final part of the journey takes us through Queen Square named after Queen Anne who visited in 1702 during medieval times this used to be an area for waste and rubbish and now it’s a pretty Georgian square just a stones throw from the harbor and now we’re here [Music] welcome to the SS Great Britain i mean wow so first impressions it’s much larger than I was expecting it’s apparently 98 m long 15 m wide 44 m tall and when fully loaded weighs 3,000 tons i am loving the setup here it’s like a movie set where you can really imagine what life would have been like stepping back in time as a passenger seeing luggage horses and there’s even actors here interacting with you playing games and getting ready to board the ship so let’s head inside to the museum [Music] [Music] now that I’m here I don’t want to spoil it too much because I already feel like it’s an experience you just have to come and see for yourself but I feel like I’m on this immersive journey through maritime history and life in the Victorian era i’m not even on the boat yet and already there’s so many interesting things to look at like old photos and things to read about its history look at this the ship carried the first All England cricket team to play in Australia i mean can you imagine sailing to Australia okay no more spoilers let’s hop aboard the ship [Music] walking the top deck really gives you a sense of how big this ship actually is can you imagine walking this at night on the open ocean looking at all the [Music] stars heat heat [Music] [Music] i love how you can freely roam the ship again I don’t want to spoil it and give absolutely everything away but it’s been meticulously restored to give you a fully immersive experience the cabins are decked out so you can see what it would have been like to sleep here be it third class or first class look how small these beds are and just for comparison I’m about 55 let’s now move on let’s head back to the Arnoldeni Art Gallery and see if there’s any exhibitions okay so it looks like we’ve just missed their latest exhibition what a shame since we’re here I’ll give you a quick tour of downstairs and I’ll bring you guys back another time when they’ve got another exhibition on [Music] Thank you so much for joining me for today’s video i hope you enjoyed a glimpse into Bristol and I can’t wait to show you more if you like this video please do give it a big thumbs up comment down below what else you’d like to see from me and if you’re new here don’t forget to subscribe to the channel so you never miss another video and I’ll see you in my next one bye

Hard to believe the SS Great Britain was a total rusty wreck, before it was returned to Bristol (towed I think) and repaired and refitted … mostly I believe by volunteers. Brunel also designed our famous Clifton Suspension bridge of course and Temple Meads Station and GWR railway line.
Think about your next video hitting 5,000 views instead of 200. I can help make that happen!
