Today we spend a relaxing day in the sleepy town of Toulon France. We stroll the streets, attend church, and shop at a wonderful province market for our picnic in the park.

hello everyone and welcome back to our 9month ultimate World Cruise adventure and today we’re continuing our journey along the French Riviera and we’re in beautiful tulon France in the provance area of France welcome to living Phase [Music] 2 hi I’m Mike and I’m Nancy and we’re empty nesters striving to live life to the fullest are living that full life going around the world on Ro crean’s 9month ultimate World cruise we sure are well friends today we are in ton France which is in the provance region so in a very beautiful region of France right now happens to be a Sunday and since we’re in Port we really don’t have today a lot things planned as far as a tour goes so we’re going to go to church today yep so we went to Our Lady of the good Voyage which sounds like the perfect church for this time it does but yeah and and this is a guess a little bit of a warning Pro tip whatever you want to call it when you’re on a trip like this a a world Cruise the ship is going to stop in ports when the ship stops in ports and quite often it may be on a Sunday it could be on a holiday could be on a national holiday of a of a country and we’ve had all those things could be during protests you know and and this being a Sunday in tulon it’s very quiet and then some of the things that we actually wanted to do we couldn’t do because being on a Sunday so as an example the thing I really wanted to do here was to go to the shrine of Mary Magdalene so um so Faith tells us I guess I would say Legend what do you want to say the stories tell you that Mary Magdalene was exiled from Jerusalem and on a boat and they thought that that basically was going to you know kill her just putting her out to sea well her uh ship made it to the shores of France right here in this area of tulon and that is purportedly where she lived the rest of her life there is a shrine there’s a uh Church there but it’s quite a ways out of town and to get there you really have to rent a car or you’d have to hire a driver for the day or something like this well being a Sunday all the car rental places were closed so I tried and tried tried to find a tour to go there and being a Sunday it just didn’t work out for us to get up there so we decided to just explore the the town as it was on a Sunday and see what the locals are doing there on a Sunday and what to do so uh the church was nice a large Cathedral it was yes it was beautiful the service was was wonderful and um but then after church when we we started walking around the town surprisingly even though much was closed in the town there was an outdoor market and that was lovely we got to walk around there get a few things to eat and so we got to try an egg dish that seems to be very popular there mhm it was a Woodfired omelet basically in a massive uh iron skillet and then they put them on trays they bring them out they cut pieces up and it was really super affordable it’s a couple Euros for a you know for it was put in a box and and we took it with it but yet still good good way to get our protein in yeah it was so we tried we got that and uh we actually later took that to a park and had a little picnic and and enjoyed that for so that was kind of our brunch lunch was that ton egg dish but that market was was really large I was quite surprised how big it was another thing that we got is um one of our friends was planning to have kind of a oh just a a get together on her balcony she’s got a large balcony and so she said we could all bring snacks kind of have a shakery out there so we got a number of different types of olives and brought so we could take those to her event yeah beautiful Olive display from the they had two or three different Olive vendors and we had um you know pickled garlic those kind of things and that made it really nice for the uh for the shakery I think we also got some uh a hummus and yeah enjoyed that a lot so we walked through the market and then we just started walking through the town there’s some ex uh exhibitions on the Americas cup and some of the racers those have been stationed here out of tulon and so if you’re very interested in yacht racing that’s that’s a big thing here as well they had some events and some uh local um boat races going on like they were the kind of kids funny boat races and things like that but we just walked to town and enjoyed I mean the scenery and then after that really after I think we probably walked four miles five miles through this town had a little p our picnic we had our picnic in the park and just enjoyed that uh we headed back to the ship and just really called it a day um one of the things that you know so we made it a simple day here a you know pretty much just a relaxing strolling day some of our friends did go to a provance Winery and some of the wineries in the area here in the south of France they enjoyed that thoroughly uh so that is another thing you wouldd have to book that obviously as a tour to take you out of tulon and and get into the provance region and go to some of those wineries so they enjoy that that would be a high recommendation of ours versus just staying in Talon is there’s not that much here agreed yeah so other than that there are also beaches here in this area on the south of France so those what I would say would be the two big things to do here would be go to the beach or go visit some wineries or get out into the provance region uh other than that did you enjoy the stop the area I it was fine do I need to come back I mean I guess not necessarily to location I mean we love the south of France we’ve been here a few times traveling in the area of aanon and kakas um so yeah we enjoy this area but specifically tulon I mean it’s a I guess it’s stop for cruise ships but other than that um I would want want to maybe be here during the week when there’s other things available to do exactly so well where are we headed tomorrow we’re going to mayorca Spain mhm so we’re leaving France now at least for for the time being we’ll be swinging around later and hitting some other areas but we’re going to be heading tomorrow to our first stop in Spain where I’m going to do some scuba diving and you’re going to be walking around with a friend a little bit I am this is a big day for you with scuba diving it is we’ll tell them about that in the next video they’re going to have to turn in and see all right friends be sure to like subscribe turn on those notifications you don’t miss a thing thanks so much for following along with us we’ll see you very soon have a great day byebye now Its perfect to have a day as you did in Toulon…relaxing
Hello Mike and Nancy Such a lovely place i love France especially the Provence area I lived in London when i was younger and use to pop over often on the ferry from Dover for weekends those were the days. Hope you are both well and enjoying home life love from Sydney
I used to live in Toulon just by the outdoor market when I first came to France when I was 18 and still living here but in the Brittany region 47 years later.
Looks like a wonderful day, attending church service and having a nice picnic lunch, just the two of you!❤❤ Thanks for sharing
I'm curious if you are allowed to leave a cruise (or any long cruise) for a several days and then rejoin it at a future port. Maybe there is an entire leg you are not interested in or you want to skip a string of sea days.
I loved Toulon when I was there 9 years ago. hugs
I really like how you seek out churches during your travels. We are Jewish, and we actively seek out synagogues wherever we are in a new city/country.
Probably was nice to have a more relaxing day as yall have been so busy with back to back ports! Nice relaxing video
Haven’t been to that area of France but we stayed for four days in Arles in September a few years ago. That’s a great place to do day trips
Has Mike given up on his quest to find the best ever Hotdog?
Lots of Fun Enjoy and Stay Safe All Ways All
If you had just one opportunity to travel abroad where would you cruise to?
