The Crow Manual for Bicycle Infrastructure Design states that bicycle infrastructure should prioritise directness and avoid stop/start scenarios (p.133), and also avoid pedestrian/cyclist conflict (p.125, 128). This design does neither, nor does it make any progress in this direction. There is no reason that the cycle track cannot continue over the junction as cyclist priority with an additional ‘right turn’ holding lane for people on bicycles wishing to turn right into Belvoir Street.
