Top. Real start given, immediate acceleration from Wout Van Aert , the pack is unleashed, you heard it. We heard it. Wout Van Aert accelerates immediately. He has already experienced success on his roads. That was in 2021. There were two ascents of Ventoux. He’s the first to open the floodgates today. Cyril Barth in the wheel, Louis Barré and obviously, Jonathan Milan with his green jersey on his shoulders. 171 kilometers to run today. Direction Mont Ventoux. Legendary stage, iconic stage. We’re going to have a blast. Make yourself comfortable. Alaphilippe, Mas, Trentin three former members of the Soudal Quick Step team who are in the first 3 positions in this 16th stage. Direction Ventoux. A Frenchman at the front. Seven other Frenchmen in the group Ben Heally is 1.22 minutes behind. The peloton is 5.45 minutes behind. And finally, another Frenchman brings up the rear. Thomas Gachignard is 14 minutes behind. A tough day for the one who’s been suffering from digestive problems for two days now. It’s from here that we’ll have the first false flats. We’re talking about Van Wilder, Paret-Peintre, Pascal Eenkhoorn’s last relays, Fred Wright’s last relays to allow Butrago to get closer to the front of the race. And we’re going to have a battle. Because right now, it’s still difficult to say if the winner is a first, second, or third-place finisher in the race. For the suspense, it’s perfect. Yeah, perfect. We’re placing Jonas Vingegaard, in the wheel of Tadej Pogacar, 6 minutes 22 seconds apart now between the leading group, the quartet opening the road. Julien Alaphilippe is dancing from the first gradients. The Healy group is 1 minute 37 behind. We’re officially on Mont Ventoux. Look, Arensman, as usual, he’s not panicking. They’re going to take off the gloves. He’s going to get into mode. We’re off for a short hour of climbing. There’s no point in panicking. It’s not 12 minutes. It’s an hour. And Valentin Paret-Peintre’s attack, we saw the hard work of Pascal Eenkhoorn, the Dylan Van Wilder relay, and off we go for the Frenchman. An old-school climber, Valentin Paret-Peintre is ahead of Enric Mas’s attack, who reacts immediately. We continue to leave his effort to Arensman and Alaphilippe, but Enric Mas is gone. There are still 14 kilometers to reach the summit of Mont Ventoux. Enric Mas, he’s not necessarily a fan of all these jolts. He must sense that Arensman is perhaps not as good as he was. You know, when you’re not feeling well, the best thing is to take the lead and climb at your own pace. I’m not going to say he was putting everyone to sleep, but he decided to accelerate . For now, he’s huge. Enric Mas continues to push on. 39 seconds on Alaphilippe, Arensman. He’s on par with Ben Heally. He’s keeping him at a distance of 1.25. The yellow jersey group is 5.20 minutes behind. The Alaphilippe-Arensman duo is about to be caught by Ben Healy, who’s climbing at his own pace. Arensman takes off. Alaphilippe is a bit stuck, unfortunately. The climbers: Healy, Buitrago, Valentin Paret-Peintre, we don’t want to be caught for the winner of Hautacam, so we accelerate. We’re over a minute now for Enric Mas and 8,800 kilometers of climbing. And up ahead, a Frenchman attacks Paret-Peintre , really on an alternating current, climbing in fits and starts. Yes, like a pure climber. It’s true that there are a few courses that are moving at a fast pace. Rodriguez attacks. Proof that things aren’t moving very strongly in this group either, since Carlos Rodriguez is able to attack. No, they’re climbing at a fast pace, but we’ve barely made up any ground on Enric Mas. That’s why the ninth-place finisher in the general classification is going on the offensive. Former Irish champion Ben Healy is fed up with being attacked . He also places a banderilla. Buitrago can follow. Valentin Paret-Peintre sways his hips, tries to hang on. We grimace for Enric Mas. It’s difficult. Come on, attack. Jonas Vingegaard’s attack right away, as often, Tadej Pogacar jumps in the wheel and seems calm for the moment. Oh, and Lipowitz doesn’t go for it. He lets Roglic go, sorry. We swallow Carlos Rodriguez without problem. We’ve worked a lot with Seb Kuss, Jonas Vingegaard, now, in his works. He’s grimacing, Pogacar. Earlier, he grimaced. Anyway, we knew that Vingegaard had to put Pogacar under pressure. 3.47 with the leader. The Healy group is stuck. Around 45 seconds behind Enric Mas, it’s off again for Jonas Vingegaard . Pogacar doesn’t connect. Pogacar stays in the wheel. Vingegaard accelerates again. He turns around. He assesses. He adds another layer. Will it be enough? He sits back down. And Pogacar is still there. Still no signs of nervousness. No. It’s good that he’s trying from afar, not waiting for the last kilometers, the last three, with a headwind, we know that. At the front of the race, we’ve passed Chalet-Reinard. In 3 minutes 30 seconds, it will be much easier for Tadej Pogacar if he wants to stay in the wheel. We’re there. We’re there. The trees are over. We’re there at Chalet-Reinard. For the third attack, Campenaerts will ride with his helmet on, I’m ready for a time trial, it won’t take very long. He even started the time trial on the speedometer. He’s had a little lap. Come on, let’s go for the TGV, Victor Campenearts, who will have Vingegaard and Pogacar for Wagon. He only has 25 seconds left for the Healy group behind, it’s tough for Mas, it’s tough. Yeah, it’s tough. Very tough. We’re starting to get stuck for Enric Mas. His face doesn’t lie. And behind, Ben Healy has attacked. Santiago Buitrago is missing. Valentin Paret-Peintre gets caught in the wheel. The Irishman’s number, the French climber’s number. There it is, the French victory. And yes! Yes, now, he’s going to take advantage of it. He has to hang on, Valentin Paret-Peintre in the wheels of Ben Healy . Buitrago has disappeared. Carried by the crowd, Ben Healy continues to accelerate. 24 seconds now with Enric Mas. Valentin Paret-Peintre could save the French side’s honor by going for the victory. But we’re not very protected in Ben Healy’s wheel and the headwind is 18 seconds away now. We mustn’t give in to Valentin Paret-Peintre, who must be going very far in pain. What a stage for the Frenchman, what a stage for the Irishman. We have to stay there, we’re getting out. He’s on the edge, Valentin. It’s hurting. That’s the price to pay to win up there. We have to hang on there, we absolutely mustn’t give in, Valentin. He’s there, he’s not just putting himself in front. He’s right there, he’s just in front of the Spaniard. It’s decisive. Four kilometers still to go. 2.20. It’s back on track now with Ben Healy attacking on the left side of the road. Valentin Paret-Peintre still has the lucidity and strength to hold the road against the Irishman. Yes, the Irishman, as we recall, was in the breakaway with the objective of regaining places in the general classification. But I think the IF team told him: That’s good, you’ll make up time, but now it’s about winning. We have to win up there. He’s ready to lose a few seconds. Ben Healy gets back up and tries to kill his opponents. That’s about winning. and Vingegaard attacks! Here we go again for Vingegaard and three. And three. Will the third be the right one? Pogacar lying on his machine, which is resisting for the moment. Arensman is completely digested. Vingegaard is back at it. And it doesn’t let go behind. It doesn’t let go. The yellow tape. Yes, but at least he tried. Once, twice, three times. We can’t blame him for that. He managed to break Tadej Pogacar 600 meters from the tipping point in 2021. There are still four kilometers left for these two. He turns around once more. The psychological blow. Pogacar is still there, responding to all attacks. Also for the podium, the white jersey. And the attack from Valentin Paret-Peintre and we respond from Ben Healy. Each one has his turn. It’s true that I had the feeling that Valentin Paret-Peintre was modeling his run on Ben Healy. He goes all out, Valentin Paret-Peintre makes Ben Healy crack, Ben Healy again. You have to push the ball home, Valentin, he can’t do it. The Irishman’s response. We know the Irishman, he doesn’t let go. But Ben Healy, he’s even going to counter. Oh my! What a duel between those two. But Valentin, they’re of the same ilk. There again, it’s not going to let go in the head. He’s a tough guy, Valentin Paret-Peintre , come on, a little counter from Valentin. Over to you, over to me. Enric Mas, he’s looking at that. He says: No, I can’t play that game. I’ll get on the train and we’ll see. And up front, we’re off to intervals. Now, we’re looking at each other. It’s the old school way. It’s really completely old-fashioned. We now know that climbers look at their power meter. We always stay at a threshold. Here, we go from 17 km/h to 25 or 30 in a very short time. We have to recover a little. Here, we have two very good punchers. You only have to look at the violent attacks of Ben Healy and Paret-Peintre to tell yourself that it’s a match, it’s going to be fresh. And Buitrago is back. Watch out, two Spanish speakers, Santiago Buitrago and Enric Mas. We’re looking ahead. We’re the two strongest, Healy Paret-Peintre, but watch out, because in the last kilometer, with four of us, it’s different. Yes, Buitrago, we talked about speed points, punch. We still felt that physically, he was below the Frenchman, below the Irishman, but a kilometer from the finish, a little over a kilometer, we’re reshuffling the cards. There, we’re not at a standstill, but almost. Look along the barrier, everyone continues to observe each other. And let’s not bury these two, because there, we’re picking up second after second. Watch out, Pogi’s attack! Here we go for Pogacar! He’s resisted Vingegaard’s attacks three times ; it’s up to him to think about his banderilla. Vingegaard is still in the wheel, but is losing centimeter after centimeter. And the stage victory too, there, watch out. 1,200 kilometers. He hasn’t managed to get it. That’s a good chance for the front group. Be careful to counter each other. Julian Alaphilippe caught by the yellow jersey. A little account of Vingegaard yes! The fourth. And up front, we’re not waiting for Valentin Paret-Peintre, who’s accelerating just before the flamme rouge. It’s over for Enric Mas. Vingegaard counters. Is it behind you, a move for me? Is Pogacar going to give him another one? Watch out up front with Santiago Buitrago accelerating. Ben Healy is immediately in his wheel. We pass under the flamme rouge, the last kilometer, the moment of truth, Mont Ventoux, to go for a prestigious victory. The Tour de France, the 112th edition. A Frenchman in the game. Van Wilder coming back from behind. Oh, Van Wilder’s comeback! He’ll ride for Paret-Peintre , we could find ourselves in numerical superiority for the Soudal Quick Step. We already have three stage wins and we’re in a favorable position. The last 700 meters. They’re terrible, these last slopes, these last hundred meters here at Mont Ventoux. We mustn’t come back, it’s not possible. While Van Wilder came back on the front of the race. But what a finale! Come on, let’s go. Come on, the little gesture of the head from the Belgian to take Valentin Paret-Peintre with him , come on, Valentin, 16th stage, the French chance. Van Wilder, who came to the Tour as Evenepoel’s teammate , is now in the role of Valentin Paret-Peintre’s teammate. The pressure is on the Frenchman’s shoulders as he battles for victory at the summit of Ventoux, on the roads of the Tour de France, with a teammate to sacrifice himself. What a finish to the race, what a stage camp, the last 500 meters. The win, it’s going to be decided. Behind, we’re marking each other, Vingegaard and Pogacar have neutralized each other . Don’t launch from too far away. The last 150 meters are steep enough to wait until the last moment. And that last right hairpin too, which could be crucial today. That’s where the steepest gradients are in the bend. It’s going to be a sprint. Van Wilder continues to lead the last 400 meters. Ben Healy, Valentin Paret-Peintre, let’s be wary of Santiago Buitrago! Heart rate at 190 for all the spectators, for you in front of your TV, for the riders, for Valentin Paret-Peintre in third position. We’re going to get there in this right-hand bend and the last wall that will bring us to the finish line. We saw it earlier, it’s long, it’s very long. We’re going to have to be patient and we’re going to have to hurt ourselves a lot. Come on, let’s go. With Ben Healy, the first to take off. Paret-Peintre in the wheel. Buitrago is taking the hit. Come on, Valentin. We’re not giving up, by force, by mental strength. There’s still time left. He’s keeping his head down. Ben Healy is very strong. He’s already known victory to live. It’s there. There, there’s still a percentage. Will he manage to come back? Valentin Paret-Peintre coming back for the stage victory, it’s not going to be decided by anything with Ben Healy Paret-Peintre strong! Paret-Peintre very strong! France wins at the summit of Ventoux! Masterful. Valentin Paret-Peintre enormous. And behind it, a new attack. There are four on one side. It’s Tadej Pogacar’s second. With a very long sprint. He’ll have some… From a distance too. Look at Vingegaard’s ego, who wants to stay in the wheel. He could lose two or three seconds. It doesn’t matter, but both have egos and they’ll finish together. What a fight from the leader of the general classification and his runner-up on the slopes of Ventoux. Pogacar finishes in fifth place with the French victory. Cocorico, it feels good to be a patriot from time to time. Valentin wins. The third victory of his career.

💉💉💉💉💉
Totally shocked at the return of banned drug cheats to TdeF yesterday. Johan Bruyneel is banned for life and Richard Verinque is a confessed epo user of the Lance Armstrong era. Very troubling as their appearance seemed to be sanctioned at high level.
Étape de dingue 👍
BRAVO !!!
