Good morning! I’m Amy. Today, we’re starting the day with breakfast on the CELEBRITY cruise ship. ☀️🛳️ We are currently cruising from Rotterdam to France, and today we’re making a stop in beautiful Bordeaux. Have you ever been on a cruise? Do you enjoy traveling that way? Time to get off the ship! 2 hour train ride from the port near Soulac-sur-Mer to Bordeaux. Who likes Bordeaux wine? 🍷 I have Bordeaux winery visit coming up in the near future — if you’d like, make sure to subscribe and hit the notification bell to catch it! A grand winery château! From the station, hop on a quick tram ride into the old town 🚋 We’re going to walk in Bordeaux’s Old Town — “Vieux Bordeaux” 🇫🇷 Bordeaux has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2007 If you’re enjoying this video, please don’t forget to hit ‘like’! 👍 It means a lot to me. Thanks! This is a few steps into the old town from the Borse. Most of these buildings date back to the 1700s This is my impression but Bordeaux is such a wealthy and self-sustaining city, it doesn’t rely heavily on tourism. That’s why we get to see real local life here. This area has full of life. Bordeaux’s buildings look golden — that’s local limestone called Pierre de Bordeaux. (meaning “blond stone”) I love the cozy cafés and lively square vibes! We’re spending two days in Bordeaux Tomorrow (next video), I am visiting Saint-Émilion. Famous wine region in Bordeaux. Bordeaux has more preserved historical buildings than any other French city except Paris 🏛️ The cathedral’s separate Gothic bell tower, Tour Pey‑Berland, was built from 1440–1500 and stands next to the main church And that bell tower, you can climb the 229 steps to the 50 m high Pey‑Berland tower for amazing panoramic views….and I did! Coming up. It’s a majestic Gothic masterpiece. Construction began in 1096, but finished around 13th–15th centuries It’s dedicated to Saint Andrew and serves as the seat of the Archdiocese of Bordeaux. Two royal weddings took place here: Eleanor of Aquitaine to Louis VII in 1137, and Anne of Austria to Louis XIII in 1615. There is a beautiful 19th-century pipe organ, still used for concerts. 💒 The cathedral is 124 meters long and its nave is over 23 meters high 🕍 The twin towers on the western façade rise about 81 meters. 🌟 It’s listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site as part of the Routes of Santiago de Compostela in France. I just reserved a ticket to go up Tour Pey-Berland (Bell Tower) today. We will come back in a little while. We have a few hours before the bell tower visit. So, let’s walk around near by. 229 steps The bell tower is detached to protect the cathedral from vibrations caused by the massive bells. It stands 50 meters tall (164 feet) Built between 1440 and 1500 in the Flamboyant Gothic style. The golden statue on top is the Virgin Mary, added in 1863 The city was ruled by the British for 300 years — that’s why some say it feels half-English 🇬🇧🇫🇷 I am randomly walking without a map. What a lively town! Today’s walk is all in one section of old town. Who would you like to go walk in this town with? I stayed only 1 day here, but I would love to go back for more! This is my favorite street from this trip. Connecting to bell clock. A historic gate. The name “Bordeaux” comes from au bord de l’eau — “along the water” 🌊 The Water Mirror (Miroir d’Eau) is the world’s largest reflecting pool We are going to come back a little later for dusk time! Galeries Lafayette Bordeaux department store. L’Autre Petit Bois = “The Other Little Forest.” Bordeaux is the world’s largest fine wine region — over 6,000 wine estates! 🍇 Bordeaux wines are mainly blends — not single grape varieties 🍷 (That’s what I heard). I convinced myself that French cheese will not make me fat …hahaha..is that true? yum yum The annual Bordeaux Wine Festival is one of the biggest wine events in Europe 🎉 It’s getting dark. Time to go look at the mirror water at the Borse! Even there is a room on the cruise ship tonight, I decided to stay in a hotel 1 night in the old town. Victor Hugo once called Bordeaux “Versailles of the Sea” The name “Bordeaux” comes from au bord de l’eau — “along the water” 🌊 Gorgeous! The next video will be my visit to a winery here in Bordeaux — don’t miss it! See you soon!” 🍷👋

  1. As a Bordeaux resident, I wanted to thank you for this lovely video that perfectly illustrates the atmosphere of the city. It will surely make you want to extend the visit to discover the many treasures: the city has the largest number of classified monuments after Paris.
You nevertheless give a nice overview of old Bordeaux.
Two small corrections: the name of Bordeaux which was called Burdigala in Roman times has more for origin Burd + Cal (shelter in the marsh) became Bordèu in Gascon then Bordeaux. Then, if there are indeed the Galaries Lafayette opposite, the passage you show is the 'Galerie bordelaise'.
You should plan to come back now and convince your loved ones to visit this magnificent city with its rich gastronomy (the highest number of restaurants per inhabitants in France).
There are also some secret places that few tourists visit.

  2. I visited Bordeaux for about 28 hours during a 2-day stop on the Celebrity Silhouette cruise ship. Even in that short time, I was so impressed by how elegant and full of life the city is. Bordeaux is a wealthy, cultured place — with cozy golden-stone streets, lively cafés, beautiful architecture, and a relaxed yet vibrant energy.

I wandered through charming squares, watched locals enjoying their day, and tried a few regional dishes — everything I tasted was absolutely delicious. 😋 The food scene here is fantastic!

If you're considering visiting Bordeaux, I highly recommend it. It’s a city that feels both grand and welcoming — perfect for slow walks, people-watching, and soaking in French charm. ✨

In my next video, I’ll be sharing a beautiful winery visit just outside the city — so stay tuned for that! 🍷
Thanks for watching and walking with me. Bonjour from Bordeaux! 🇫🇷👣

  3. It's FABULOUS,would LOVE to visit, BETTER STILL I WOULD LOVE TO LIVE THERE, GREAT PLACE 👍👍👍♥️♥️♥️ From Frances uk ♥️♥️

  4. I clicked on this video because absolutely love dark red wine! Your words are so appreciated due to me being on my treadmill and unable to travel! What a gorgeous city!! I, too, agree with you that they don’t need tourists. ❤

  5. You "idealize" too much Bordeaux with that music, this is not a Disney movie… 😮
Show the poverty/Homeless people, the illegals migrants, the drugs dealers, now like many cities of France .
This "wonderful" France doesn't exist anymore
