crashes in break formation. Jonas Vingard’s behind the split. Pagatcha is monitoring proceedings up in front. The only GC rider that makes it. This was stage 15 of the Tour to France. A nailedon transition breakaway stage with about 2,000 m of climbing. The Padus, the category 2, that’s 3ks at 9% and then it continues going uphill after that. Too hard for the sprinters teams to control when so many teams want to go in the breakaway. So, it’s a free-for-all at the start. 22 23 teams jumping but then there’s a crash through this road furniture or this roundabout in the village. There’s a crash. Alfalipe goes down and then everyone in front basically gets is the breakaway and the problem for them is Tade Pagatcha is in but yeah there was a narrowing huge hold up and it takes a while for people to get through. Alfipe was down. It looked like he’d broken his collarbone or hurt his shoulder or something like that on these uh cobbles which were usually the rers’s hoppies. So I’m not surprised there was a crash there. Lipovitz is caught up. Tenot is crashed. But still the white jersey and a podium contender having gone down or being caught up meant all action stations for Red Bull Hansrower and Vinger indeed Afeni was smashing behind the car trying to come back to that’s not group one that’s group two or three. We don’t really know that’s like a minute behind the front of the race. Whilst at the front of the race the you know the racing doesn’t stop. Johnny Milan is there but without teammates. Venard’s there. Vanderpool’s there. EF got numbers. Lucenko for Israel Premier Tech and most importantly Taga has made it with Tim Wellins. And so the break formation the jumping keeps going. I guess they’re trying to get away from Pagatcha because then that will stop the chase behind or get away from each other. Pagatcha is demonstrating with Jorgensson. I’m not sure why. Uh and then the jumping just keeps going for a little bit while Simon Yates and Sept Cous not notable flat engines are pacing behind Vanderpool though. This is his opportunity. He’s 70 points behind Milan in the green jersey competition for this stage. It’s a 50point stage. He can get ahead. Go to the intermediate, take 20. If he wins the stage, takes another 50. for Johnny Milan that is he would lose the jersey if that happens to MVDP and Milan was struggling. He got dropped out of the break and then dropped on the flat by group two. So he was really really struggling and then eventually the break does form. Camponauts is in there with Wellins. Venard bridges across with Anorn Vanderpool is in so it’s looking good for him. Plus he’s got teammates Trek are alive to the danger. They’re not trying to control this for a sprint. They’re trying to bring this back full stop. Vanipul cannot be in the breakaway like this. Romeo bridges Yonis Winger got across because Romeo this was a breakaway stage he’d penciled in. Pagatcha is marking Jorgensson who’s trying to get across to the breakaway himself. And then this is the initial break. It never gets a leash. Tim Wellins is on the back. He doesn’t pull. He’s telling Vanard he’s just going to sit on the back so to go through. So already Wellens by being able to play that card is just doing a little bit less in the break formation than the other riders. Inos missed it. So Aronson pulls full gas. They got Axel for this finish. Duran tries to bring it back for Sims to go across but also to stop Vanderpool being there in some crosswinds. That’s why yeah Vocal’s there. He’s behind the splits of the group’s chasing and Milan’s getting dropped. But Milan can’t take any points at the intermediate sprint cuz he completely blew up whilst Vanderpool’s able to erase 20 of that 70 point deficit at one intermediate sprint. So Vonul’s still going to go for the green jersey when he can. Tudtor on a 1K 6% 7% climb. Do a full lead out for Alfa Phaleippe who’s come good. He’s trying to snap bridge across the breakaway. It’s only a 30 secondond gap. It’s bridgegable for strong riders or punchers like Simmons. It’s bridgeable. Uh but Jorgensson’s on his wheel. He tries to go with him. Pagatcha marks him again. It’s now GC guys. Only Lipovitz are there. Russo’s dropped out of the break. And here Vingard when Stora attacks tells Jorgensson to stop following and let him go because Pagatcha is not letting Jorgensson go in the breakaway. So counter move goes with Simmons store and I think Servin UA put a couple of domestics on the front to try and assume some control and then in the break it’s just not working. No one’s pulling. Wells goes across to a move with Campernut Moric Simmons. Store is eventually going to get across to them behind there’s Lundre and for Picnic that’s why they’re pacing. There was Oscar Reese for Alperson. They were pacing for Vanderpool while he was there and Carlos Rodriguez has got across with Axel Lauron. So we got some versatile sprinters in there. Alfip eventually makes it, but they never see the front of the race again. This is the front of the race. That group never sees the entirety of that group again. Carlos Rodriguez tries to get across. Maybe he should have just kept it together or paced on the climb for Laurance because now the cohesion behind is really bad. Van’s not pulling. Stewart’s not going to pull when L Shenko’s ahead and Vanderpool’s kind of gassed. So Albertson give up on the stage. We get to the 2.9K 10% climber. It’s all going to happen. Stora tries to get rid of the rulers. He’s the best climber in this group. He probably wish the climb was twice as long as it is. Unfortunately for him, Simmons follows the first attack. Camponuts comes back with Wellins. Then Stora goes again. And Camponauts initially responds with Simmons and Simmons just closes him off right at the top. But this keeps going now. It’s like 4% 3% rolling up and downhill. Store goes again. Wells is in the wheel of Simmons. Technical narrow descent. Gravel everywhere. And this so the road gets really really narrow. Vlassov, Luchenko, Rodriguez, Bari just as they’ve got across just when they’ve been to the front of the race. Wellan sees a narrow road, maybe a corner coming up, and he sees that the strongest guys, Camponauts and Simmons, are blocked on the right, and he jumps into the gap on the left. Camponauts and Simmons are blocked for a second. Bari responds, but the gap is already there. And once we, if you watch Belgian National Championships road race, that’s why he’s wearing this jersey. Once Tim Wells had has a gap, you ain’t bringing him back. And when it goes to 5 seconds, the race is already over. At some point, the others are going to look to the others to chase and the cohesion will come out of the group. It goes to 45 seconds already with 30ks to go. And that is all she wrote. A bigger group comes back with indeed Julian Alfalipe and Ward. They closed the best part of 40 seconds on Rodriguez in the last 16k. So group two, yeah, as you can see with Simmons attacking and then Campernuts going, the cohesion really came out. Rodriguez took a lot of time on GC though. But Wellins completes his trilogy. A stage win in all three grand tours. He’s been pivotal for Pagatcha so far this tour to France. But behind wasn’t just Wells. Then Camp’s rolled into second. And like Alfa Phippe should have seen him. He comes third in the sprint. Well, wins the sprint behind, but he thinks he’s won despite two riders finishing ahead of him. I’m not sure I’ve seen that before. Usually it’s a solo attacker they don’t know about, but Alfleet thought he won. He didn’t. Wells wins Ed of Campan. S Alfle Vanar, Lawrence, Vlassov, Penway, Jagger, Valgrren, and Valentan Mal rounding out the top 10. Here’s what Wells had to say after the stage, Tim. Two victories on Lava, two victories on the Jirro. The collection is completed today with a win on the tour of France. What does this one mean? It is a very special victory. I think everybody knows to the France. Everybody wants to ride it to the France and not many people win to the France. So, it’s a very beautiful victory. In terms of GC, there was actually a move because KL Rodriguez takes the best part of five minutes and leaprogs Ben Hilly. Jordan Jaggar also moves within a minute of Healey in 11th. So Heel’s top 10 really came under threat today um by him missing that breakaway. So that’s something to monitor. Class Rodriguez probably should continue dropping him in the the long climbs, but he climbed really well yesterday. Hope you enjoyed the video and I’ll be back with Von 2 on Tuesday. Jojo.

  1. I feel llike Wellens did the least work all day…. Belgium tactics all the way. kind of played it dirty, but its a bike race… I dunno. Quinn's the best performance of the day again!

  2. Alaphilippe is a pseud. At the begining of a stage he is there 'making a name' for himself on TV, etc.

Then he rides at the rear of the peleton, relaxed and drawn-along with the slipstream for most of the race relaxed, then suddenly he can pass them all and arrive in a (near) winning position.

He is not a team player.

  3. So first he apologized to the woman whose cardboard sign he stole, then he caused a mass crash, then he put his shoulder back in place, and to top it all off, he mistakenly thought he had won the stage!

  4. I was wrong when I said this your can't get any worse for the French.

At least no one had mentioned David Gaudu impending retirement 547 times per second, every second of every bike race until the heat death of the universe.

  5. Really big fan of your content and analysis, love the podcast and these clips.

I've mentioned this in a comment on another video but I wish you would stop mentioning IPT's title sponsor (an evil nation committing acts of state sponsored t3rrorism and g-cide) by name in your videos. You can just call them "IPT" and everyone will get what you mean. Don't give their sportswashing project any more publicity than you need to.

  6. I love the part in which you ignore the Visma disasterclass. Patrick, you should either drop this channel or Visma. This is a conflict of interests, these videos are really dishonest.
