Plan of the work going ahead.

Costs double.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cql005pvpv6o

So before I get on the ground, I’m just going to do a quick overview. So the costs are going to double from 14 million to 27 million to do the work. And I’m guessing time scales will go the same as well. It’ll just be like what happened on Fargate. It’ll just become a building site. It’s been a building site for quite a long time. So let’s get on to the actual plans which are absolutely confusing. So this is Pinston Street showing it as being cycle lanes retracting posts so that loading can happen out certain hours. So people have got to know that these are crossing points on the cycle lane. There’s not zebra crossings. This is the Rison blue here. Town hall here. So let’s get further down. So Surrey Street going to have a retracting post I think just there. So there’ll be no parking on Surrey Street anymore which is going to be a major issue if you’re not as ablebodied. So this cycle come loading lane will sweep round onto Fargate. I’ll show you that round and you’ll see it better. And then it sweeps round onto Pinston Street around here. But it’s a total mismatch as we get round the corner. So that’s where they’re retracting the ground. I think just there. So here on Charles Street, it says it’s a cycle lane and pedestrian and whatever. They look like cycle lanes there, but it is so confusing. So I don’t I’m not sure what’s going to happen with Union Street. So how do you get on to it? But you can see that on the ground yourself when I get down there. Then on Pinston Street down at the bottom where you’re coming up from Morhead, this is going to be a one-way car road up here and it sweeps around into the old Cooh’s car park. So out of the cycles come down this cycle lane here to connect through to all this lot. It’s just so disjointed. There is a key here, but complet it’s complete absolute nonsense. So, I’ll get on to the ground now and let’s see if you can actually explain it any better than me because I am completely lost. I don’t know where the logic of this person is. Now, I design voice and data networks 15 years at a bank. Uh, I think I know what I’m talking about. These people haven’t got a clue. So, we’re now on the ground looking down the spine of Fargate. And this is a vehicle access opens certain hours, but I’m guessing the rest of the time it’s actually the cycle lane, but there’s no real warning on it. And it goes right the way down the center of Fargate. Now, these are actually supposed to be crossing points here, not zebra crossings, but nobody knows that these are actually cycle and vehicle lanes. And I’ll show you the signs they’ve got at the top. So this is looking down Fargate and this is the only warning really pedestrian and cycle zone. So cars are limited when they can go down here. And I’m guessing that these are actually cycle lanes when the cars are not using them. But the public don’t know that, do they? It’s just absolute craziness. So looking onto Surrey Street, they’re going to be extending this cycle vehicle lane down here. And one of the issues is when I brought my dad into town, he needed to go to the town hall. Couldn’t walk walk very far. So I could come up here, spin round, and drop him off or even park here. Well, this is all coming out now. I’m guessing this like vehicle thing will be extended all the way down here and it’ll become a pedestrian zone. So, you won’t be able to park your car down here in the future. So, this is part of the uh expenditure. [Applause] So, we’re now looping round from Surrey Street coming down Pinston Street in front of the Radison Blue Hotel. And we’re going to have this disruption on here now for I don’t know how long. So they’re basically extending this vehicle come cycle lane down here. So you can see the blocks raising the level. So this is the path of the new vehicle come cycle lane. There’s your Edison Blue Hotel. So they put these blocks off at the moment. I think they say it’s for terrorism, but I think they’re just being awkward. But the cycle lane will carry on down, but it gets confusing at this point because here is going to be vehicle access coming up here to go around the corner. So, this is going to stay. This will be a roadway up around here and then the rest of it is going to be pedestrianized. But it don’t make sense cuz they talk about cycles coming down here. So it really gets confusing. The plans are just not clear at all. So now we’re looking down Charles Street. So they’ll be bringing another road up here, but making it pedestrian and and limited access up here again. So to me, this will be a cycle come vehicle access out of ours lane. But then when you’re looking up here or down here and the vehicles are coming north up here and round the corner. Well, I thought you wanted to keep people and cars separate cuz a terrorist attack and um it just don’t make sense any of it. It just looks a notch botch. We’ll just take you down to the bottom of Pinston Street and look back up. But like I said, it’s just going to be like this another building site for I don’t know how long looking back up. So you’ve seen the eye level plan and this gives you a view of the ground level. It’s just an absolute joke, isn’t it? So we’re now the top of the moore on what was known as the Morhead. And then if you look back up, you’ll just see this work for I don’t know how long now as cost escalate. And then we’ve got the Arundle Gate down here. So I think the junction between here and Arundle Gate is down Charles Street just up there that I’ve just shown you. Well, let’s have a quick spin on Arundle Gate. But it’s just a a complete mismatch. I mean, you’ve got a bit of a cycle thing on the road up there and then you’ve got sort of small cycle lanes in the middle of here just marked out on the road. It’s just an absolute arch potter of nonsense. So, here we’ve got Union Street. You know, I absolutely get lost trying to translate it from what I’ve shown you on the eye level view to what we’ve now got and how it’s going to be. So, Union Street’s been completely destroyed. All the beautiful buildings have gone on it. So, here we’re looking down Air Street. I just want to quick give you a quick view of it. It’s a total nightmare driving on all of this now with these stupid bus gates. And I think they’ll just make it more and more restricted, more and more pedestrian. And then we’ll just have a quick up look look up a run gate. So we’re now on a run gate. I can remember when people were getting trapped in a bus lane up here. Well, I think there’s a turning circle, but translating a Rundle gate from the eye level view to what it’s going to be. I’m not even going to go there, but it just gives you an idea the absolute nonsense along here. When they talk about health and safety and everything, they actually make it more unsafe. It’s just not streamline. I used to drive all through the city center of Sheffield. I ain’t got a clue anymore. So, they’re making it more and more as though this is going to be for buses only. Squeezing cars out. We got the turning circle there. But it’s just as though they do things to make life more difficult for people. It’s getting harder and harder for people who are not so able-bodied to get around Sheffield. So, it’s now saying the bus gate enforcement’s now started. So, it’s just more and more squeezing cars out, making it difficult. So coming down to where the old Steelers nightclub was. So that’s just looking back up a run gate and then we’ll just walk down this little bit. So you can see the nightclubs on the right steel is and then it’s down to Holling Road. So you’ve seen the eye level view or Rundle Gate. It’s going to change into isn’t it considerably. It’s changed for change sake and all it’s going to do is destroy Sheffield even more and people be less and less liable to come into town. So that’s it. If you can like the video, follow the channel. If you follow the channel, please ensure the uh bell notifications on. You can just see the hole in the road at the bottom. And there you’ve got Castle House Co-op just there. So that’s it. Over and out from Sheffield.

  1. On a recent visit to Sicily, we went to the Cosa Nostra museum in Corleone. The guide was telling us how The Mafia are no longer a separate entity, they are hand in glove with the government, especially on a local level. She asked us to notice all the pointless, unrequested, un required civil engineering projects that have sprung up all around Palermo allowing bent construction firms to charge highly inflated prices that can be creamed off between them and the bent councillors who they negotiated with when securing the contract, after “successfully bidding” for it.

  2. Imagine bringing in terrorism threats so the public will be so scared they'll be willing to let the government lock them up in pedestrianised zones and take their cars away from them.

  3. The city centre is so alien to me now, its unrecognisable to everything i knew and theres zero reason for me to go there, its dead, just void space now.

  4. Pinstone St is now impossible to cycle on. The cycle lane is dual purpose so full of wandering pedestrians. The road is now one way, so you can cycle up it but coming back you have to cycle against the flow of traffic and pull in if a car comes up.
Incidentally I saw Edd Clancy on pinstone St when I was cycling down it and unfortunately didn't have time to point out the madness him and his colleagues have created Tim.
