The Watermolenroute is a 42 km cycling route here in Flanders. It includes the Molenberg, a famous hill in the Tour of Flanders. Explore it in this first video of me, The Cycling Tech Guy.
[Music] foreign [Music] Belgium I like starting here because it’s very calm in the morning as you can see nobody on the track yeah all for me so let’s just keep going [Music] so let me tell you a little bit about this route so it’s about 45 kilometers long about 600 meters of elevation and maybe 500 in that 45 kilometers because when I ride it from home I have to do about 80 kilometers so 600 meter organization in those 80 kilometers but in the starters flat as you can see driving around this calendar and I’ve done this route I think about 50 or 60 times so it’s one of my favorite routes takes me about three hours to do so about 27 28 kilometers an hour on average and uh on a good day that might be 30 kilometers but then we have to read it for something so there’s one famous mountain here one famous Hill in this route that’s also in the tour of kilometers it’s called a mullenberg it’s full of cobbles you’ll see try to uh ride up it today faster than maybe five kilometers an hour for you guys because I really don’t like it my bike is not equipped for these cobbles but anyway it’s in the route so you have to do it [Music] thank you foreign [Music] which is uh where the mother Moon root starts we are passing by his memorial for deceased Rider here at that spot so it’s a dangerous spot here actually the memorial was another bike first it was stolen so now they placed another bike here so let’s never forget indeed that cycling has a dangerous activity and we need to pay attention at all times so keep it safe guys [Applause] [Music] okay guys so that was uh the bars through Harbor Town so now we’re in nature as you can see foreign see the first time of this route so it’s easy to follow you don’t need a GPS or a garment or whatever it has to follow this route and just follow the signs that’s how I learned and now of course I know this route my heart and we’ll see uh what it gives today we can be sometimes maybe on the Hills it’s always fun to do so let’s try come with it [Music] thank you foreign okay here we go first attempt for a new PR let’s go [Applause] stir in here [Applause] [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Music] so I’m here at the next Hill and I will show it to you so it’s a little uh Steep Hill I think about seven percent or something like that and it’s in a tall town called as you can see by Design let’s go to him so this for me I always think of this as a welcome of Tottenham to me with the hill I can attack so let’s try this one let’s put the GoPro back on the front of the bike and let’s see if I can attack this hill as well as the previous one [Music] [Music] thank you [Music] foreign I’m sorry for planting as much but this one really took it out on me so 40 kilometers in just halfway and this is my traditional stopping place here and you can see why it’s very quiet and there’s a nice view here on the Hills as you can see it’s one of the more uh higher points of this route but it’s flown is here so it’s only about like 90 meters above above sea level so not very high we’re not in the mountains here but still you can see the hills so coming up are a few longer Hills and then we have the mullenberg with the cobbles I decided to take it easy because uh not 100 today heart rate is a little bit high so we’ll just go up the mall and back on an easy pace and uh try to survive so time for some snacks now refueling a little bit getting some uh liquid in and then going for the next half of this route [Music] so guys and girls we’re close to the molenberg this is a little bit uphill and then we’re going downhill which is the fun part and then let’s open back I hope I can uh capture some good footage for you but it will be slow today I won’t be attacking the moon back today so here we go [Music] [Music] [Music] thank you foreign [Music] so after you have done the Molen back you’ll practically finished finished with the Hills and you get this lovely View from a windmill this time if you see windmill you know when you’re on top of the mountain on top of the hill in this case enjoy okay so maybe it’s time I introduce myself so my name is my name is Peter I just turned 48. as I said I’m from Belgium from flounders from the city of Ghent nearby the city of Ghent if you visit Belgium definitely visit that City I’ve been riding bikes for about 20 years started out with mountain biking on my own for a year and they’re always fit enough to join the game [Applause] and uh yeah mountain biking turn into race bikes I own a lot of specialized bikes and also do some thrifting but of course when the weather is like today there’s only one way to go it’s outside so we’re coming up to another water mill on this route I know I think this one is working so let’s have a look [Music] okay guys girls 60 kilometers in now nearing the end of the route here at the end of my trip has a little dessert called the roads in a few kilometers and it’s a very short but very Steep Hill so uh try to conquer that one too and that is almost all flat going home via the skalde again at the river and it will follow it’s so let’s see if we can find the watermelon design that we saw in the beginning it’s a little bit up ahead so I’ve made it till the end here we have the sign again or it’s two kilometers with some hills done no it’s uh up to the roads which translates as The Rock if you want to know and uh yeah let’s see how we do there thank you [Music] [Music] [Music] thank you [Music] [Music] thank you [Music] [Music] [Music] thank you oh yeah I’ve been riding a little over three hours now back in my own neighborhood so job done I wasn’t 100 today but I enjoyed the ride I think that’s the most important so I hope you enjoyed this video on to the next one bye [Music] thank you [Music] foreign
