We start our walking tour at the Charles de Gaulle Square and the view of its famous Eglise Notre Dame La Grande Rue du Marché Notre Dame Palais des Comptes de Poitiers More exactly its dungeon, called “Maubergeon tower” It was added to the Palace in 1104 Originally the the Palace was residence of the Counts of Poitiers and the Dukes of Aquitaine in the 10th-12th centuries. Then the building served as a courthouse until 2019. Joan of Arc statue in the Palace courtyard. The statue was inaugurated on June 2, 1929. Rue de Cordeliers Rue Gambetta Église Saint-Porchaire de Poitiers The bell tower-porch was built in late 11th – 12th century The nave in the 16th century Place du Maréchal-Leclerc Poitiers City Hall Construction: 1869 – 1875 Rue des Grandes Ecoles Rue Gambetta Place Alphonse Lepetit Rue de Palais Rue de la Regratterie Église Notre-Dame-la-Grande de Poitiers Start of construction – 11th century End of work – 12th century then 15th and 16th centuries (chapels) Grand’rue Maison des Trois Couds (15th century). Cathédrale Saint-Pierre de Poitiers Start of construction – end of the 12th century End of work – 14th century Espace Mendès France Center for scientific, technical and industrial culture Offers exhibitions, conferences, debates, events, shows, creations, Baptistère Saint-Jean Installed in the 4th century in a Gallo-Roman house, the Saint-Jean baptistery became a special building in the 5th century. Inside, there is an ancient octagonal-shaped baptismal pool, used for baptism by immersion until the 8th century. This monument, which became a parish church, was decorated with a very beautiful set of Romanesque and Gothic wall paintings in the 11th-12th centuries and the 13th century.
