How will cyclists attack Tadej Pogačar during Stage 14 of Tour de France? | Beyond the Podium
https://www.youtube.com/nbcsports
Welcome back to Tour to France. Beyond the podium, we’re deep into the Pyrenees, looking ahead to tomorrow’s big stage. The final showdown in the Pyrenees. Tons of climbing out there on this route. 182 km from Po to Luchon Super Betier. Super bangers as Christian Vanderville says. Yeah, this is the finale in the Pyrenees. 16,000 ft of climbing up over the tormal mid-stage, then the cold aspen, then the same climb as today at the cold pirasaur minus the finish to the altaport we saw today before a hard 12 km at 7.3% to super banet. Yeah, look at that. Just a saw to shark teeth of a profile. And Brent, I got to say this has to be considered the queen stage. Definitely of the Pyrenees. I think it’s right up there with the um the Corsal stage, the cold low stage in the Alps. I think that one actually has more climbing than this. Okay. Which is hard to believe when you say 16,000 ft of climbing. 16,000. And there they’re going to see even more in the Elps. But yeah, this one’s got a big X in terms of impact, in terms of GC mayhem, maybe potential stage winners out of a breakaway. K, big K points. 55 points on the road tomorrow. If anyone wants to pose a threat to Tat Tad Pagotcha in that KM jersey, it’s it’s got to start going down tomorrow. Someone’s got to go. Someone with some points already needs to go over the tormale. Yeah. Who do you think? Maybe like a woodsy woodsy. You know, Lenny will be going. Lenny will be going. Yeah, maybe Ben Healey. Flatter start, which is interesting. That’s like a nice breakaway combination situation of climbers getting in there with teammates. Bit of a timing hectic. Sprinters for the green jersey. A lot of that. Matthew Vanderpool will probably want to get in there, get him some intermediate sprint points. Al yeah, all sorts of like different scenarios and options tomorrow. There’s no there’s just no easy way from start to finish going over all that climbing. One big question is if UAE would control for the stage like we look at the time gaps, you look at TAD’s won four stages, you think no way at this point. But we heard him after the stage give an interview and he said, “Well, yeah, the priority is the yellow jersey, but we’ll see how the team feels. If they feel good, I would like to win another stage. We’ll have to see how it goes.” Yeah. Well, okay. So, I’m I’m actually just concocting a scenario in my mind, and I know I’m getting the nickname of Tin Hat TJ, but that intermediate sprint point is right at the base of the tormale. I could see there’s some sprint teams controlling to the base of the tormale, not letting any breakaway go and then full explosion attacks on the tormale. And man, that will cause some chaos and you’re going to have to if you have any weak links in your team, they’re going to be shed immediately on the tormale. The sprinters would be be so Yeah, that would that would that would maybe like the sprinters would have to be real confident that they can survive these climbs. hard to control. We’re looking at 70 km of uphill valley. I think there’s there’s so many good climbers who also want to be in the break. You know that the breakaway is going to take a while to get established once it does. And so then all you get 30 km for free and then immediately the sprint teams they’re like, “Okay, we want this intermediate point.” If they don’t ride for it, Tatty Pagachi, he’s going to end up winning a bunch of stages and he’s going to take the the green jersey. So they kind of have to get those things. So if the breakaway fight starts on the Tormale, this race could really wide open from very early on and teams could get isolated that it’ll really test the metal of the teams. Who has the better climbing team? Who can actually take control? Did GC guys like just outside the top 10 like Enrich Moss start going and then guys get nervous? It there’s a lot of different scenario. Big explosion on the term. Could be big explosion on tormal. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, I think speaking of the teams and the climbing teams and the GC before yesterday we would have said Vizma definitely had the better climbing team. They were off the mark yesterday not having a good day. Admittedly Matteo said no excuses today. Seth was good today. Saw Seen to the finish line in that TT today. Nose breathing in the saddle and he was like top 20. Yeah. Catching his teammate Simon. So, if if they’re back on tomorrow, if they’re feeling good and they don’t have one of these days that Matteo had yesterday, I can still see them returning to the the script and their original plan of animating the race, pushing the pace, and and still still going for it. Yeah, that that’s what they did both years that Yonas won the tour. They picked one day, the hardest day of steepest climbs, relentless, and they just set a blistering pace for the entire day. Now, is that going to work this year? The only way that that works is if Tade makes a mistake. If he under fuels, if he has a bad day, even if he’s isolated from his team and he has no teammates there, it doesn’t matter. All you have to do is follow Jonas. You follow the you follow that uh Visma train and they’ll do the work for you. But if they push that pace and it goes over TAD’s limit, it would have to mean that maybe that maybe the effects of the crash from 3 days ago are finally setting in or he underfueled. Like it would have to be a mistake from Tad. Yeah. And that and that goes back to this conversation that they’re having in the hotel tonight with Yonas and what he wants, what he feels, and we’ll have to wait on the road to see. But it’s to even have a chance of that happening, they would have to try. Okay. They would have to try and yeah, I guess that’s a matter of if they want to try. Do they want to try to slip sep in the in the breakaway for the KM jersey of the stage or let some of their other guys eat and allout all Jonas needs to do is W he’s not gonna Yeah. W’s not playing for the stage relative to how he’s climbing and some of the other break potential breakaway riders in this race. But if he if he go gets up the road in an early move, then all of a sudden like my eyes are a little more lit up for potentially satellite rider up there. He can certainly Yeah. link up the way he did with Simon Yates on the cold. It’ll be tough. I mean, UAE is if they’re riding how they were yesterday. On the other hand, they’re they can stay together. Roll. Tim Wellins if he’s riding how he was yesterday over three climbs. So big big day tomorrow in the Pyrenees. Lots of action. Breakaways. GC guys. K points starting early 6 a.m. We’ll see you back here on Peacock. For all your cycling content year round, subscribe to NBC Sports YouTube page. We got it all.

i need more stuff like this in my life 😻👅
When are the officials gonna realize this man is doping
Tejay is the Alexi Lalas of cycling.
i love this show
How will they attack? Short of hiring Tonya Harding they don't have a chance!
why the tour de france is not on nbc sports tv ?
the chosen one
Pog takes that too
do you have someone who can ride along Tadej..
so sad no extended highlights!! 😢😢😢😢
They won’t, they will try to attack him, he will ride their wheel, then on the last climb whoever is left he will destroy them.
Can we all just take a moment to express our collective gratitude as fans that this epic climbing stage takes place on a weekend so fans who work during the week can watch it start to finish? I'll be on Zwift with one computer while streaming it with the other to my livingroom TV. Winning!
TDF is over…2025 is the year of POGACHAR.
Will there be snow in Alps?
Tee Jay needs to go. grrrrrrrrrrrr
Why care about a sport that has lost its soul and morality.
I think with Matteo out of the GC picture, it will actually free up Visma to try something bold (silly?). They have to find a way to at least get a small amount of time on Pog tomorrow, to keep this tour interesting.
Genetic therapy can't be detected, at least no in a few years
Let’s be real. There’s nobody attacking Pogacar. Vingegaard and Evenepoel were contenders when the Tour started, but what we’ve seen so far is Tadej dominance. Maaaaaaybe Vingegaard can mount an attack, but I doubt it. The time trial proved that Pogacar is the strongest rider. And even before that, you could see that Vingegaard couldn’t follow Tadej’s attacks. If anything, Pogacar wins the stage and gains even more time.
At least when Lance was doping he kept the race close. This is boring
the top 10 will attack each other but they wont be pocking the bear
16000ft? Are you sure? That’s less than 5km lol.
Visma's strategy now rests on hope.
It will be breakaway day.
pog and UAE won’t catch them, but some other could.
