Had an amazing 3 days/2 nights biking San Francisco > China Camp State Park > Samuel P Taylor > Stinson Beach.

I usually bike with my SO, but he is unfortunately recovering from an injury so I decided to still go solo but make it a shorter trip. He was on moral support / pick up duty in case I needed a bailout 🙂

He built my bike around a 2018 Masi Giramondo frame that I found used in Oakland. He also recently surprised me with a Rohloff hub, which has been an absolute dream to use.

Our plan longer-term is to embark on a 1-2 bikepacking adventure, so taking advantage of beautiful routes in California to shake down the gear while we can. Biking through redwoods might be my new favorite thing!

Trip notes:

* I might switch back to a front rack next time; I don’t know if I loved being so backloaded.
* I took two notable off-road deviations: Loma Alta Open Space Preserve after Fairfax (on the way into Samuel P Taylor) and Olema Valley Trail off of Shoreline Hwy on the way into Stinson Beach. Olema Valley Trail was like overgrown single track and SO HARD with a laden bike… definite type 2 fun 😅
* The hiker-biker site at Samuel P Taylor was busy, and I met cool people on awesome tours! The only downside to this campsite is the food box was an absolute joke. No lock (so it was a bit pointless? I used a voile strap to secure the door), but the wood plank at the bottom was loose so raccoons got into the bottom shelf anyway and made off with trash and someone’s food.
* I was prepared for some aggression from motorists, but everyone was respectful and chill.
