To everyone thinking about how to get from the Alps to Croatia and further, I highly recommend the Soča valley in Slovenia.
Get there from Tarvisio or from further south (just tried Cividale del Friuli to Kobarid, and it's fine), and you can ride towards Trieste, Istra, Rijeka…
It's a beautiful alpine valley with good and improving cycling infrastructure.
