The time had come for me to return and check out my hometown of Wolverhampton, but this time I thought I would bring my friend @honestplaces with me and I could show him a few of the locals public houses and local characters. First we visit the heart of the Black Country, Dudley – a town where it seems almost every local I spoke with had just got out of prison! Then we head back into Wolverhampton proper and visit some of my nostalgic old haunts, stop a daylight street robbery and help out an old friend of the channel. they say travel broadens the mind and it’s the best investment you can make in yourself and in many ways that’s true but sometimes you just got to come back to your hometown and see what’s going on and I bought Danny from on his places with me he wants to check out a couple of pubs for his channel and I want to see what’s going on it’s been almost a year since I was back here and from walking into the Market Square to start with there ain’t much going on mate you looking forward to checking out God’s own land wolf rampton I am is this the Market Square though or what yeah yeah used to be yeah I don’t think there’s much of a market anymore I want to show you the black country I’m going to take you to Dudley which is the traditional heart of the black country at least in my mind we’re going to meet some of the people there check out a pub for your channel and then we’ll come back here to wvo and we’ll uh we’ll see what’s cracking off in wolow mate I’m happy with that as long as I’m have decent boers I’m happy key got I was worried about him getting jacked you ready to explore Dudley mate I am yeah have to explain this whole area to me God’s own land itself yeah the black country here pens schools and all that right yeah and they no home that these immigrant buggers they get home just like this my mate has been looking for home yeah you can’t even get in a flipping hostle cuz he has a cat yeah give your cat up we give your they want him to give up his cat to get in a hostel yeah well that’s I mean that cat’s important to him yeah it’s therapeutic therapetic of course yeah he’s all right he’s all right yeah he helps him with his depression of course mate I’ve got two dogs and I couldn’t live without them so I completely understand and I think the authorities need to understand that people in difficult situations need their pets yeah they don’t yeah sit behind that desk press a couple of buttons and then that’s a job now go out and do what I used to do every day get in my own wagon go out go to somebody’s house fix their fence or L drive so you were like a general Builder were you and all that and when did you stop doing thata about 10 years ago okay yeah scruffy scruffy yeah many opportunities in the town or no because I think the people from the black country are some of the most wonderful warm-hearted genuine people funny as well you disagree I’m numerous occasions so how how long were you in prison for uh about 10 months all in all jeez yeah a lot of things possess tend to play Yeah I’m robbery Jewelers back to prison stabing aggravated vehicle taking conc with my license got out again same mindset not turn the guy door the fight is broke out and uh caught him with a mallet and I got done for aggravated Burg to call GB looking at like 13 years bang to right me I’ve been in prison most of my life for like 20 no been 16 years and enough have you tring to my life how long have you been out this time June 10th really yeah yeah made out yeah D I ask like how long your sentence was and what the conviction was or you don’t have to tell me year do months not stupid if you like mean really yeah just Petty things yeah yeah catching up with you what you did for drugs you know what I mean p I’ve got clicked you know I mean I’m done i’ trying to get a job SED um three you got kids as well yeah I got a daughter so you’ve got a daughter to live for so you start making those selfless decisions I’m not here to preach but you know I can tell in your eyes no it’s like it’s hard to explain cuz people just look at me and think now he ain’t change never going to change you can’t tell that by looking at them man you got to talk to them and see the proof of their actions like people know you know what I mean in the town yeah in general people n it’s come to a point in my life course not being a dad it’s not fair my daughter not me not being there there of course mate yeah I step up mate yeah that’s what I’m doing sorting everything out trying to get a job sorted I feel got driving license so I’m trying driving job get a car sorted in there and start get going up in life instead of just one step at a time as well you know like you can’t you can’t run the marathon in one day one day at a time you can take a step forward and then you can be there for your daughter and the main thing dropping off drugs absolutely that that’s the biggest step of all life is that a big problem in this town with people in general um from the main drugs around here know that [ __ ] that M I’ve been there I don’t want to I walk P I walk past the up out and just think [ __ ] hell I do you know what I mean yeah you feel like you’ve gained some respect for yourself now that’s the first step in it respecting yourself realizing you deserve a better life than the one you were living I deserve a better life my kid deserve a better life and obviously try sort things we make to be a family good on you mate yeah yeah appreciate talking to you thank I wish you the best of luck with everything good day it seems that most of the people that I’ve spoken to in Dudley have recently and through their lives done a stint in jail which tells you a lot about the town to be honest lack of opportunities people turn into ways of life that end up in prison it’s a shame and although other people are quite friendly they are it’s a a bit of a sad Town seems that there’s a distinct lack of Hope now apparently Danny Bean Danny has gone for a point in the old prior so let’s see what one of the local proper boozers in Dudley’s really like we got the best Guinness in D best Guinness in Dudley and I’ve got to try it there’s a lot of crap out there told me this Guinness is an eight8 out of 10 yeah now we’ve just been to Dublin recently and I like a nice creamy white and this is uh it’s almost Tangerine I’ll give it a taste I don’t trust you I don’t trust your palette it’s creamy is a tank so Danny we checked out the market the High Street of Dudley and we checked out AB Boozer what do you think of Dudley uh just pretty much boring run downtown just like any other in the UK to be fair don’t seem a lot of hope there’s a lot of people I spoke to have been in jail so that never bods well jents we’re making a video about Dudley what’s Dudley like [ __ ] [ __ ] what’ you say that 100 crackheads really how long’s it been like that years man years yeah pretty much that’s what you expect growing up in dudler yeah you get 10 just outs yeah not much to do you go to college here do you yeah yeah what you studying what you going to go into electrics yes a good trade yeah earn a good living I advise all young people these days get yourself a trade now no visit to the black country would be complete I’m told without a visit to Mad old Raw famous world famous Pie Factory which is famous for these big like you know desperate Dan cow pies I think they’re call Lump Hammer pies it’s a traditional institution in the area food’s really good apparently and you can get a decent point and that’s what Danny’s here for so let’s check out M rocks mate tell you what prices look all right yeah it’s the black country mate people they won’t pay a lot that tight round here you getting a pie or you just getting a pint we’ll see probably probably just a pint but you know I might get enti in by the Aromas look at this mate you’re definitely going to get a local a well yeah even if there get us on top I’m not having it you’re not allowed to have get for so I don’t know like what do you recommend who brews the beer and we do okay I’d say this one probably sells more yeah but that’s Stronger Yeah if I if I wasn’t on a long day out with you I’d have a pale ale but I’m going to go for a pint of gold please yeah I’ll have the bits of please taste test each others yeah so bitter would be like a proper like black country session beer wouldn’t it they come out the factories and they drink five PS of bitter for lunch back in the good old days how long’s The Pie Factory been here like this the buildings the building was 100 years old last September so it’s obviously 101 this year yeah um for the PO Factory again 30 years 30 years yeah and you still really busy we are yeah every night what a wonderful black country institution mate we P now aren’t we are you yeah paying Danny’s getting them cuz I paid £650 on the toll to get here £650 in a van disgraceful that’s what you get for getting fed around he’s got 100,000 subscribers he’s got his plaque now he’s better than public transport so he has to get fed around by me so that’s why I made him pay for the top you know what I mean it’s the least I deserve oh mine does taste like sort of like you know traveler’s rest back in the day like 18 00 Travelers Rest what’s up no say if you was uh going across country on horse and carriage like a 100 years ago and you need to stop off cuz you got another 100 miles it takes you like 6 weeks back in Boston which means banging pucker apparently good um but yeah yeah it’s all right definitely good for a pie um for a pint not really so we’ve checked out Dudley in the black country good people interesting conversations but a place that’s slightly down on its heels but to be honest with you folks the last time I came to wolver Hampton it wasn’t fairing that well itself but this is where I grew up this town used to be jumping back in the day there used to be great pubs and clubs everywhere when I was growing up lots of shops full and these days you know there there’s not a lot going on it’s a symptom of many towns I call it a mediumsized town of its size gain City status in the turn of a millennium but it doesn’t feel like a city when you wander around the iconic Manda Center brutalist structure hovering over the center of the skyline and then some of the more beautiful buildings the old buildings that show you when wampton was a more prosperous place and the iconic man on the horse statue need money do you know what you stole your money what’s going Ste my money while you while you’re singing yeah it’s okay he put it back now it’s fine don’t don’t make it make you move great people yeah good people yeah and I do like the people and I’ve got a lot of friends here as well even though from wolver hon s yeah I love it can’t say what I’d want to say on there say whatever you want yeah you know what’s chilling all there the m is ringing you tell me quick I know it is yeah but what it is we’ve got a lot of things now going on about like with the government saying oh it can’t cost this it can’t cost that we can’t afford this taxes but then what we’ve got right is6 million to 7 million a day I’m not going to say elal immigrants but we’re putting them up yeah what about our pensioners that’s that’s what H me yeah a lot of people say it mate that’s what it is and you know it’s frustrating that these days that sort of thinking is seen as rightwing because you don’t have you don’t have to be rightwing to worry about it’s you know people yeah we what they do they go oh political correct it a political correct we’ve got that edge right we can have all that there full of right okay we’re not going to say legal or we’re not going to be racist full and then we could have that place over there where they’re all sitting there in a tent yeah what they’re paid for yeah and nothing done for them they’re not that’s what hurts me I know a lot of people say that’s what hurts me even not even just benefit working CL people come there to get help anyone you know what I mean so you’re finding people that have a roof yeah yeah having to come and rely on you guys 60 people maybe today and how many days a week are you here four days out of the week I would say just come to wolver Hampton Town Center 5:00 Monday Tuesday Wednesday Friday um and you can get food here um get advice here can people bring tins and food and stuff yeah people can make soup and bring it and come and help out a future for all UK a future for all UK yeah yeah and how how can people donate to that Google a future for all UK it’ll come up and then people can follow the links to mean but that depends cuz like I don’t know living here you just get used to the people and like ah yeah this guy again you get me yeah and then obviously there’s ups and downs about it like there’s Lo a knife CRI but then again everywhere else there is knife crime there’s that everywhere you know I filmed in London quite a bit I go everywhere mate unfortunately that’s a facet of modern life and you know my heart goes out to people that suffer from things like that yeah but like you know I I want to try and focus on the positives this is my hometown originally and um you know like it’s good
