In this travel guide, I’ll share the best things to do in Edinburgh, Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

There are many famous tourist attractions in Edinburgh, and some are definitely worth a visit. I’ve tried putting together a video that shows the famous landmarks and the more unknown hidden gems of Edinburgh.

Did I succeed? Let me know what you think in the comments below 🤝

I couldn’t mention all of the best things in Edinburgh in this video, so check out my written Edinburgh travel guide on my website. Here’s the link: https://destinationwellknown.com/things-to-do-edinburgh/

In that guide, you’ll also find a Google Map of the route I’m taking from Dean Village to Stockbridge (I really do think you should try it!).

If you’re coming to Edinburgh and haven’t booked a place to stay yet, check out my video on the best areas: https://youtu.be/HXeF1nwXt9E

Or my written guide with hotel recommendations: https://destinationwellknown.com/where-to-stay-edinburgh/

The hotel where I’m eating haggis ravioli is featured in this video: https://youtu.be/hNzj4ICaD7Q

As I said in the video, I used to live in Edinburgh, and I’ve been showing tourists around as a tour guide, so I’ve been walking in all the famous streets of Edinburgh.

So, if you’ve got any questions about the things to do I’ve mentioned in the video or any questions about Edinburgh travel in general, leave a comment below, and I’ll do my best to help.

  1. Hi! I’m planning a day trip with my daughter who’ll be 18months when we come to Edinburgh in April 25, I was wondering if Scotland is easy to travel around via public transports. I’m a single mum so a little nervous travelling but desperate to see Edinburgh and know I just need to go do it.

I’m planning on getting the coach from London, arriving early morning. First stop getting breakfast at going to Calton Hill, then strolling through the town before heading to the zoo then back to the city for ice cream and dinner before our coach back to London at 9:30pm

If you have any other child/toddler friendly ideas I’d love to hear!

  2. Tak for at dele den super fine video! Et hurtigt spørgsmål – Hvordan er det med nytår i Edinburgh? Hvis man rejser derover for at fejre nytår, er alt så lukket 31.12+01.01 ligesom i 🇩🇰?

  3. Greyfriars Bobby is not the only historical story about dogs. We live in west lothian a few miles from Linlithgow, birthplace of Mary Queen of Scots. There is local lore set in medieval days, the story of The black bitch, she was a black greyhound whos master was imprisoned on a island to starve to death, his family used to wrap food up and attach it to her, where she would swim across the water to give it to him every day. unfortunately authorities heard about this, they caught and shackled her to a nearby island where both she and her master starved to death.

  4. I’m sick of Scotland being portrayed like this. It’s a country that almost entirely lives off welfare. It has an average reading age of 11. Sure the tourist areas are nice, but the towns which make up most of Scotland are very poor and have massive drugs and violence problems. Scotland is a third world shit hole entirely supported and financed by the English, by the way they are the nice polite people you meet in Scotland, the natives are a bunch of nasty drunken junkies. And when you see pictures of hills and lochs… remember you are only 30 mins away from a Junkie.

  5. Edinburgh has my heart ❤️ so stunning and peaceful. I have uploaded video of Edinburgh’s Christmas market. Please do check it out and leave any suggestions. Thanks x

  6. I’m new to your channel and i really enjoy your Edinburgh and London videos, I’ll be going to visit in October but currently I’m looking for a place to stay… i don’t like spa type hotels i prefer simple and i wish i could find more old traditional lodging like the stone walls fireplace wood nothing modern it’s been my dream to visit for years and finally making it happen, and yes a Harry Potter nerd here to 🤣🤣🤣 if you or anyone has any suggestions please let me know, a bit nervous as I’ll be going alone for the first time ever so please somewhere safe… and thank you…

  7. I ve just been hanging around here for a couple of days…after 30 years…haha…almost everything has changend…can´t find ai pub I remember from 1995…LOL…where would you by a woolen cap?…don´t want to buy it at royal mile…haha…

  8. I am a Harry Potter fan. Definitely going to visit Edinburgh while I am having a holiday in London. Any nice accommodation to recommend for 2 person for 3 days 2 nights?

  9. My home town 🥰 you’ve shown some of my favourite parts too, great video! I will say that the castle isn’t all it’s cracked up to be in my opinion, there is a load of history around the castle too if the price to get in is eye watering to you. One example is that if you stand on the hill with your back to the castle, look for some steps that go down to the left hand side towards the bottom of the hill (there’s also a walk you can go down to the Princes Street gardens, which is the old Nor Loch, where they would test folk for being a witch. If you floated, you were a witch and would be burnt at the stake. But if you drowned, you weren’t a witch). If you find an old wooden door, you’ll notice holes in it. It’s where thieves were taken. Their ear would be nailed to the door and if they were lucky and had loved ones, they would come and help them. If not, they would have to rip their ear away so people would know you were a thief because of the wound the tear left.

  10. Hi! Thanks for the interesting tips. You said you used to work as a tour guide in your own agency. Does this agency work now, or do you know any other travel agency that organizes tours of Scotland? I would really appreciate a recommendation / a link maybe even better. Thank you!

  11. Now it's devasted Edimburgh. Once upon a time there 's edimburgh, with its mistery, old palaces…. now for a fu.k green deal it' s ruined.. I 'll don't spend my money to visit it

  12. Went there on vacation last year. The food was excellent, the people were friendly and helpful. Our hotel was wonderful. That city was amazing. Fantastic place to spend some time and money. Worth every pence!

  13. I only hand two days available in Edinburgh. There’s so much to see! One thing I’d love to see is a hairy coo. Is there somewhere I can see them and maybe take a couple pics without having to go all the way to the highlands?
