Welcome to this Exploring Carlisle Guide – Top Things To Do In Carlisle Vlog, where we take a look around Carlisle, Cumbria’s only city.

Carlisle is a beautiful city in Cumbria, the North of England, near the Scottish border, and we hold the place very close to our hearts. In this Exploring Carlisle vlog, we will take you around the city of Carlisle and show you what we think are the Top Things To Do and Top Things To See in Carlisle.

We were only in Carlisle overnight but it was everything we remembered and loved about Cumbria’s only city and in this Exploring Carlisle guide, we show you some of the most famous and historically important things to see and places to visit. This really is an ultimate Top Things To See And Do In Carlisle vlog.

Our trip to Carlisle started off with checking into our favourite Carlisle Hotel, The Crown and Mitre, a stunning building right in the heart of the city of Carlisle.

We take a look around Carlisle’s Market Square, checking out the famous post box, Town House, market cross, old Guild Hall building before taking a look around the famous old Roman streets and down towards the Carlisle Sands Centre, a place Rach holds very dear.

In this Carlisle City guide, we continue to look at the most amazing buildings, old pubs and restaurants and give you our recommendations.

We take a break and enjoy a drink in the old Kings Head Pub, as well as the Boardroom Pub, we have a lovely Italian meal at Franco’s in the old Guild Hall building, we visit the Victorian Market Hall where bands such as ACDC, Thin Lizzy, The Who, The Jam, The Smiths and Iron Maiden have all played.

We look inside the stunning Carlisle Cathedral, walk the Carlisle West Walls and peek inside St Cuthbert’s Church.

We look at the beautiful Abbey Street and Tullie museum but no trip to Carlisle is complete without a trip inside the beautiful Carlisle Castle.

Let us show you around Carlisle Castle, which once held residence to Mary, Queen of Scots.

Before we head for home, we had to take a short drive from Carlisle and visit Hadrian’s Wall.

Of all the years of visiting and working in Carlisle, we had never visited Hadrian’s Wall, so we went to Birdoswald, the remains of the famous Roman Fort as part of Hadrian’s Wall.

We hope you enjoyed our Carlisle travel guide as we explored the beautiful city centre of Carlisle and Hadrian’s Wall.

We really hope that we have shown you the top things to do and see in Carlisle.

As always, we finish the vlog with a sum up back at home.

⭐ About Postcard & A Pint:
Welcome to the official Postcard & A Pint YouTube channel.
Postcard & A Pint was thought up by my partner, Rachel & myself, Wills one day while taking our daily 1 hour exercise during the lockdown of 2020. All of a sudden, we were spending more time together, not working 6 or 7 days a week in the arts industry, and binge watching travel programs, and we were actually really enjoying it, and it made us re-evaluate what was important in life for us. Now back to working 6 or 7 days a week again, with very little time off, our happy time is getting out there on our brief times off together and making short travel videos that we are now sharing with you. It’s just a bit of fun, and great for our sanity. Your support is hugely appreciated x

  5. Great advert for my home city, living abroad I don't get there too often- except for the foota!.
Always a Cumbrian and proud of my early years growing up in Harraby- just love the whole place and the people😊

  6. Loved the lively presentation and informative video. I live 30 miles from Carlisle and visit about once a month. Your film made me appreciate its history and historic cathedral, castle, museums and houses even more and the ongoing life of the city. I'll look at Carlisle through your eyes next time I'm there.

  7. Happy New year guys 🎉. Sorry for the late comment. We watched on Sunday, but it has been a rather hectic return to work this week! We see you two are kicking off the year with another belter video. This looked like such a fun trip away. It always amazes us the amount of history we learn about a place watch your vids, the research you do is outstanding, all delivered with the postcard fun twist!👌😊. Carlisle looked lovely, great friendly people, yummy food and drink, what's not to like! Loved the look of the old hotel, what a beautiful building ❤. Hadrian's wall! We have always wanted to visit there too, we would love to hike along it one day. How cool was the exhibition showing how it would have been in its prime🤗⛰️. Good one you both for braving the weather! Well that was fabulous. We hope there are lots more adventures for you both to come this year, we can't wait to see what you have in store! Keep them coming, and cheers to the good times indeed 😊 🍻.
    Pete and Shell 😊👊

  8. But it's so good to see a familiar town/city/area through fresh eyes. I have lived in Cumbria for 50 years but like to look at lakes, forests, towns, seaside and green spaces as though I'm a tourist & find them so interesting.

  9. The clock on top of the town hall has three faces looking south, east and west. the side facing the north was left blank on purpose as they didn't want to give the Scots the time of day. Also , on their first visit to Carlisle the Beatles went to the Crown & Mitre hotel for a few drinks. However ,they were asked to leave as they were wearing leather jackets and this was not allowed. The next time they came to Carlisle they were more famous and they were welcomed at the Crown & Mitre with open arms.

  10. The Scottish song Loch Lomond was supposedly written by a Scots soldier kept captive in Carlisle Castle, awaIting execution.. His spirit returning to Scotland via the low road, his mate who wasn't being executed, was going totals the high road!

  11. That passageway isn't very mysterious really. it just runs parallel to Botchergate and is the back entrances for Spoons and the cinema etc. There's a couple of car parks down it, and a great little shortcut to drive to the station when traffic is busy 😉

  12. Annoying that you repeat the made up rumour that there has been ale sold there since the 10th Century. How would anyone know that? Did CAMRA produce Ye Olde Gude Beere Guide? No documents from the 900's would record that. 😆

  13. Just watched your video today on 'MarkfromtheStates' Channel and thought I would just pop over and tell you how much I enjoyed it. Thank you for all the historical facts you found out about Carlisle and for giving us such a comprehensive tour,.
A lot of work I know, but definitely worth it.

  14. President Thomas Woodrow Wilson's mother was born in Carlisle and you didn't mention Mcvities biscuit factory formally known as Carr's biscuit the oldest biscuit factory in the world.
