We’ll also explore Bevois Valley, Millbrook, and Redbridge, where anti-social behavior, high-rise crime, and abandoned streets lined with mattresses and rubbish paint a bleak picture of modern Britain.

welcome back to the channel guys in this video I’m going to take you deep into the five worst areas to live in Southampton and trust me these are some of the most rundown deprived and dystopian Estates across the UK but first I just quickly want to below okay so we’re going to kick this off with an area to the east of the city called for hill now all signs point towards for Hill as being the worst area to live in Southampton although the other areas on this video aren’t far behind and in my opinion some of them actually look worse looking up stats for the area Thornhill is listed as being one of the most deprived areas within Southampton and seeing as Southampton itself is one of the most deprived cities in the country it’s pretty bleak to say the least there are loads of shocking statistics I could share with you but just one that jumped out at me is the fact that 65% of children living in the W of B which for near there’s a suburb within a living in income deprivation that’s really appalling what chance the kids have in areas like this to grow up and flourish but anyway as you can see from the footage for Hill checks all the same boxes as the other extremely deprived areas that I’ve seen all over the country there is litter everywhere I have to watch where I’m stepping to avoid dog turds this here actually on closer expectrum was a p of dog crap that it looked like someone pulled out their car still on the car car at just dumped on the floor lovely there are bulky items lining the streets some of which look like they’ve been there for years and there are loads of discarded drink and drug paraphernalia everywhere and it just looks like a war zone in places to be honest I’ve been up and down the country on this channel and I don’t think I’ve ever seen as many social housing blocks of flats and highrise buildings as I did crammed into such a small area [Music] some of these paths felt like walking a gaet there were Flats on either side and people hanging over the balcony smoking shouting and asking what I’m doing there was loud drum and bass music coming from various Flats as well as just some weird noises and despite some people challenging this every time I say it there is endless evidence to show that flats and highrises have much higher crime rates than regular housing it’s obvious to see why really when you think about it there are more people per square meter and in this case it’s an area where most of those people are struggling to meet their basic needs I don’t know exactly what is going on here with this design these housing blocks look like some kind of defensive fors with their War surrounding them so these visuals with some of the crime reports I’m going to share if you’re planning on moving in or around Southampton you’d want to think twice about moving into for Hill honestly don’t just take my word for it though I browse some forums where people who live in Southampton comment on the best and worst areas and keep in mind that these sort of local forums are always full of prideful residents you don’t like to dump on their own doorstep but even so Thornhill is spoken about as one of the roughest areas and worst places to live in Southampton by people who actually live and know the area browsing some of the recent news headlines for the area there have been a bunch of stabbings drug dealers operating in the area and get getting busted is fairly common murders and attempted murders happen as do standoffs with the police and so on and according to right move the average house price in forhill over the last year was in the range of 250,000 that sums up the state of private housing in the UK at the moment perfectly so the next estate that even Southampton residents say should be avoided is called St Mary’s which is down near the South Point and also home to St Mary’s football stadi Stadium it’s not a bad Stadium actually it’s better than the foot team that plays there that also made me think why are football stadiums always in bad areas right apparently it’s because clubs were established in workingclass neighborhoods deliberately back in the day and those have since gone down hill but either way it’s a win-win as we know that match day is a magnet for antisocial Behavior St Mar’s is another area that I couldn’t seem to find a good word about and the council’s deprivation stats along with the police stats for the area back that that up St marus is listed as one of the most deprived areas in the entire country the report doesn’t go into much more detail than that but it really doesn’t need to I couldn’t get any specific crime stats either but according to local news the St Mary Street District which is home to this lovely collection of world shops and such is one of the most dangerous areas in the city of Southampton after dark this could be any High Street up and down the country right now right they all look similar random World Food Shops Vapes boarded up businesses and of course litter and overflowing bins everywhere giv the area a stench forming a circle around the High Street is more of southampton’s finest weather War blocks of flats along with loads of junk and discarded drink and drug paraphernalia on the floor of course but the jewel in the crown of St Mary here has to be this monster of a building called albian Towers all I did was Google the phrase arrests in albian Towers Southampton and I was met with pages of results like this from firearms and drugs to Serious assaults it sounds like a riot living there something I couldn’t help but noticed was that most of the window seals have little bags on if you can see that here as I zoom in they look like poop bags for pets right I’ve never seen this before but am I wrong to assume that the people living there are collecting their dogs or cats turd bags on their window sills would anyone really do that I’d love to hear from anyone who actually knows the answer for sure I can’t think what else will those little bags would be anyhow this is one of the most depressing looking housing complexes I’ve been to overall looking at the stats on paper and just walking around I don’t know how it gets much worse than this honestly if you’ve lived there or lived there now and want to tell me otherwise feel free to do so I’d love to hear about it but reading through some of the recent news reports I’d find it hard to believe that it was anything less than hell ignoring all the footy related arrests there have been some big cannabis Factory busts recently there was a particularly Grizzly murder involving a shampoo bottle I don’t recommend reading the details of that one rival gangs shoot at each other on occasion and Southampton already has a knife crime problem so it’s no surprise that stabbings are a thing here I’m not sure how much I trust right move at this point but apparently the average house price across St Mar’s in the last year was around 220,000 for those of you that would like to move into somewhere a little bit more colorful than where you currently live I want to take out a moment here to is an area called Beav Valley as the locals pronounce it but it could be Bevo Valley to an outsider anyhow beas Valley is another area struggling with deprivation and poverty unemployment crime and all the other stuff that’s going to get you featured on a video like this I think this area managed to look even more untiy than St Mary’s on the day I was there and apparently it’s even more unsavory at night this is because the ward of beis has one of the highest crime rates in Southampton for 158 which means there are 158 crimes reported per 1,000 residents every month this it’s a small Ward too with just 177,000 is people living there that really puts some perspective on it doesn’t it there’s a lot of crimes and I’d wager there are a few problem individuals that most residents know about as you can see here some of the streets are literally lined with litter the whole area stank of sewage too I don’t know if that was just on the day or if it’s always like that it’s probably due to the drainage getting blocked up by litter but who knows there were a few of these small Alleyways behind a lot of the housing that looks like it’s occupied by students or just general houses of multiple occupancy I know I’m jumping to conclusions here but it looks like when the landlords invict someone or they leave without taking their stuff it just gets all dumped out the back however it got here I don’t know it’s ridiculous I mean just look at all of this the Jehovah have their work cut out around here I’d reckon interesting that they have the Japanese and English dual language there isn’t it seems like a wholesome Multicultural area area to be honest there was several places of worship covering various beliefs as I always find on my travels the more signs there are warning people not to fly tip the more junk there is fly tipped everywhere it literally felt like I couldn’t look anywhere even slightly out of sight without finding loads of stuff [Music] dumped someone’s running a nice TI massage parlor out of a house there I’m sure that’s a legit massage place if anyone is in need of a little pain or stress relief I found this comment online about the worst areas to live in Southampton interesting they say to avoid the two areas I’ve covered so far but beis Valley is fine in comparison to those that’s interesting cuz it has a higher crime rate than the other areas it’s just as deprived it looks worse I wonder where that person’s Benchmark for the word fine is on the back of beas Valley being fine there have been some high pro far murders in this area over the years in recent news serious assaults are pretty common someone even got stabbed in the bum drug bursts and organized crime gangs operate in the area and it just goes downhill from there really if I sold be’s Valley to you and you want to move there or if you’re just interested in house prices the average house prices last year according to right move were in the range of 230,000 okay so next on the list and these are in particular order by the way they’re all bad areas we have milbrook which is to the far west of the city now milbrook is another of the most deprived areas with Southampton and it’s also listed as having high levels of social isolation and food insecurity walking around I mean it didn’t look and feel that different to the other areas I visited and I guess it isn’t that different which is the sad thing as it just reinforces how many areas and Estates are living in something similar to wartime poverty it’s a similar story loads of flats that look like they’re in need of renovation work loads of mattresses another junk line in the streets and I mean there were mattresses on the main streets on the side streets grassy areas and on top of other mattresses it was wild for an area deep in food poverty I don’t want to joke about it but I saw more messages about not feeding the birds and rats than anywhere else I mean that’s just really addressing the General State the place isn’t it another classic don’t fly tip Here sign with a bunch of items dumped it looks like the council’s been out here documented it wrapped it in tape talked about it probably planned something and then just left it there for the indefinite future the UK is one of the worst countries for fight tipping and general mess on the streets threatening broke people with fines clearly isn’t cutting it and locking them up just costs the taxpayers a fortune so what really is the answer I don’t know looking at some of the comments from people who live in Southampton I mean this delivery driver here posted a comment to avoid milbrook I bet he has some W stories and there were dozens of other comments from people saying it’s rough dangerous Etc looking at the recent news reports there were some really gnarly stuff actually that I don’t even want to show on screen or address think of the worst of the worst kind of stuff but outside of that antisocial behaviors off the charts the feral you seem to be a real problem here in milbrook there have also been murders plenty of serious assaults and county lines operations busted so it’s not [Music] great and you know there will always be people online and popping up here in the comments I’m sure defending the area saying it’s fine Etc sure there are plenty of good people living in this area I don’t doubt that but it does annoy me a little bit when people turn a blind eye to how serious and systemic the issues are in areas like this it stops any progress no matter how small to make in an area just a little bit safer more areas like milbrook are developing all the time across the UK and growing in size and the more it’s normalized the more we’re going to see larger areas of the UK looking like this and the larger number of the Next Generation growing up in this environment is that what we really want I’ll end that round there anyway on that note the average house prizes in the area over the last year were in the 223,000 range so neighboring milbrook is an area called Redbridge which for the most part shares all the same problems as milbrook it deserves its own mention however as Redbridge does have a reputation within Southampton for being one of the worst areas to live visit pass through or be caught out at the wrong place at the wrong time I’m sure it’s not situated in the best place geographically there’s a busy flyover on one side and rail tracks on the other and a large industrial complex very near so it’s pretty noisy and smoggy it’s built up with loads of flats like all of the other areas featured in this video and it lacks decent Green Space and amenities for the locals but it’s Catch 22 isn’t it deprived areas rely on Government funding or charities for the most part and what little they do get in the way of resources either gets gobbled up quickly or vandalized this is Redbridge towers and like all high-rise buildings it attracts all of the wrong headlines someone on the 12 floor set the building of Blaze once which I’m sure was terrifying for everyone else living in there kids have thrown fridges and other large items over the balconies and there are endless reports of serious assaults and other crimes happening within the tower block I simplifies you know high-rise living is rough studies show that crime rates are as much as 600 % higher inside these buildings and that flows out to up to 28% higher crime rates in the surrounding areas as for the general area of Redbridge class A drugs is a serious problem gang members are often caught with Firearms young kids are attacking teachers already and again there have been some high-profile murder cases that have happened here over the years that made national headlines average house prices in Redbridge over the last year were in the 216 th000 range I think that makes it the least expensive area on the list and that’s in part due to the fact that location wise it’s probably the least desirable area and that about wraps it up for this tour of five of the worst areas to live in Southampton if you have any experience of these areas or just general comments I’d love to hear from them and I do read every comment cheers

There are some really nice parts of Thornhill, I notice most or your 'bad' footage is recycled many times to focus only on the bad, you paint a picture of stepping through dog turds and used drug needles, just totally untrue, check your facts before posting these videos.
The state itself is quite beautiful 😊
I still live there at i have had no trouble at all.
I tbink thats a recent thing. I dont think flytipping was always bad in England
Britain just has a serious overbreeding problem.
I’m born and raised in Southampton (in fact, my mother’s family were moved from st. Mary’s chapel area which, at the time was just full of even more squalor to another area) but it’s a shame you missed Weston near Thornhill and the irony that right next to Millbrook, across the dual carriageway is Nursling, Rownhams and leading to Romsey…all quite affluent.
i like this format. You also have a sooothing voice 😂
Southampton is just as bad as Jaywick. Mow that’s a mess all by itself.
St Mary's is the worst place in Southampton
This guy is talking utter bollox, he has no clue what he is talking about. I live in Thornhill and this is exaggerated beyond belief. Total knob jockey.
It’s interesting, because some criminality in some towns, like the one I’m living in isn’t solely based on the council estates here in Eastbourne
Southampton is honestly the ugliest city along the south coast. Even Portsmouth has more to see. All Southampton has is IKEA and a mall. Otherwise no reason for me to go there. I'd rather stay in Chichester or Arundel or even Brighton
Why is it that sort of buildings and areas look so much more depressing in the UK than equally deprived places in other countries? Is it the climate and the cold that seem to make it so much worse? There is just something so bleak about this. When I visited Fiji, I passed a big estate block one night in the main city of Suva and despite it obviously being very run-down, there was at least something cheerful about it. I think it was the fact that it was hot and it seemed busy and cheerful- kids running around in the balmy night air and the sounds of people chatting and laughing.
Bevois valley as a ward, includes Northam and St Mary’s, so you can lump the stats in for those areas for Bevois. Although ngl Bevois, like you showed in the video, is acc kinda alright? Just kinda noisy. Suppose it depends where you consider Bevois to be…
yeah if poop bags get blown off the window, your not directly littering because it was a act of god
I worked in the Redbridge area in the early 90’s, it was an absolutely awful, violent lawless place. The housing stock was in better shape, I guess it was newer then and the crap on the street got cleared up. Apart from that it was absolutely no different then
Thornhill is way better than the London estate I moved my family from in 2001. It isn't strewn with Rubbish at all most of it is nice houses with grass areas around free from litter. You filmed around the flats bin areas & people in those buildings have nowhere else to dump their rubbish & old furniture, it's not like you can ring the council to collect either. I have only heard of 2 murders in over 20 years 10,000 people living here ) and the knife incidents you mentioned happened a couple of years ago and were pretty isolated. Saying that it's a big council estate in a Labour run area so it is very neglected when it comes to investment.
Want to live in hell? It's 1/4 of a million£ 👍
I grew up in Thornhill and left in 1988 to return again in the 1990’s leaving again in 2002 and it never looked like this.
What you called Millbrook is part of Redbridge Millbrook Housing Estate Redbridge, Millbrook as it own Train Station, and gets call by its electoral name of Freemantle. The problem we have in Southampton is that there are no real jobs any more, it was a Town/City that once employed more people than what live with in the boundary, like the docks used to employ thousands of people, now be lucky if it is a thousand, We had all the major firms here paying very good wages, we also had the country biggest civilian employer shipping lines that employed local people and now no longer employed all because of one Government, Thatcher Tory Government hit this city hard, she sold off and closed down nationalise industry, she helped business to move away from large urban areas, she made cuts in councils, she stopped council from building their own homes and said the private sector will provide. And every government since have been a capitalist government and capitalist don't care about anyone else apart from their self, they will hit the working class hard, because they are Socialist by nature and heart
Millbrook isn’t that bad tbf like I’m
Not saying it good mate but
Actually no excuse for all that trash including mattresses and old chairs!
Southampton is literally the Arsehole of England. Include Portsmouth in that also as it is also the biggest shithole this side of the Dartford Bridge
If Thornhill is “a war zone” then I don’t know what tf Denziel Avenue is 😭😭😭
Like how tf can you not see how much worse Places like Bevious Valley and Millbrook is 😂😭
PLEASE DO A PART 2!!!
There’s a few extremely deprived areas that you’ve missed which definitely show how bad certain areas are and would bring more awareness to the unfortunate poverty that people have to endure in Southampton.
Places like Derby Road and Denizeil Avenue are pretty rough and should be shown
St Mary's AKA the Jungle
Albino towers is rough. They used to have a nappy tree. Basically a tree full of nappies thrown from the balcony.
The council has to, eventually, clear all the large items which have been fly tipped. Why don't they provide a lorry, every three months or so, to allow people to bring out their large items to be disposed of properly?
The dustmen leave rubbish behind when they take the bins they have no gardens the blocks are ugly people should not. Swear or smoke weed😮 they need a garden and nice shop and the council should put more bins in😮 the council should have poo bins😅
Stick all Asians in their
Southampton has gone downhill so much, when i was a teen 20 years ago it still had its rough areas but if you knew how to act no one would bother you. Now its gotten much worse
I wouldn't pay £2.60 to live there infact i would need paying
Was born in the lower town area near st marys and lived in northam road about 10 years ago and both were great areas up until just after the 2000's now like most of the UK they are unfortunately crime ridden ghettos
No wonder Craig David left 😂
Thornhill may look like a shit whole but we are a community and it's really not that bad of a place to live in
Sometimes the fly-tipping outside council blocks is actually by local private landlords. Because some larger estates have regular bulky waste amnesties, local landlords pull up and chuck out their items too to save money and effort.
great, right before i move there to uni. f my life 🤦
I used to live in Thornhill. Hideous place, drug dealing, crack heads, ASB, dirty, dirty skanks, poverty. Violence. Arson, if you report them, they put dog shit on your car windscreen. There used to be a kid living in the block with adhd and other issues. Put lit paper through my neighbour letter box front door. He covered my door in crushed berry mixture? And loosened the front door handle screws. Crackhead upstairs got a taxi home and gave my flat number. Shouting screaming from domestics, banging on neighbours front doors. Neighbours ex partners coming over and causing scenes, front doors slammed losing tip of finger. Bailiffs trying to gain entry. Cruelty to animals. Support worker having inappropriate relations with a resident with learning disability. Paedophiles run out of their property. Break into the shed area. Residence having loud sex, young mothers walking babies in extreme heat while they are laying in prams with no shade. The list is endless…
I live in the centre of the city and can honestly say i totally agree with you on this one, coming from the new forest I was shocked what I witness daily 😊😊😊
Ta for what looks like a banlanced account.
As someone who lived there 'till the late '90's – God – terrifying.
I wonder why none of these 'Britain is sh*t' videos say anything about the way the country's declined since the Tories stopped expecting the Super-Rich to pay any tax and just sucked more money out of the public services, councils and the poorest…
Why is none of these videos bothered about that, but just grumbles as if this is all happening 'because this is the C21st".
For people living in the '70's, Sopton (and the rest) were getting better every year (yes, it wass grim in the '30's,, did anyone tell you?) and we looked forwards to the myear 2000 as things got better every year…
Until Thatcher decided to destroy the Public Economy and turn it into just a Piggy bank for the Rich.
Look at how it was getting better every year until then.. and how violence, drugs and deprivation have gotten worse over the 14 years of uninterrupted Tory rule from 2010…
There are photographs of the times when things were simply getting better… and the new buiodings and facilities (the swimming pool was a wonder!),.
Actually – there are photos of the Estates too – and they were looking pretty damn asperational back even in the '90's.
In fact – having lived in St mary's, Shirley, Woolston and POrtsdwood up 'til the late '90's, I can say each had their own character buit all were pretty pleasant and safe places with only minimal littering/flytipping, NO drug problems (aside from police raiding 'alternative' houses). Violence has always existed but it was just the usual loutish lads.. niothing very frequent and I don't ever remember hearing of knives… and we had more TREES and BUSHES.
NOw… as you say … and all the housing is in an appalling state -0 damp and damage to every one of them,… It wasn't this bad even after WW2.
I left in 1989 and wasn’t that bad
Went back last year and was so shocked at its degradation
I lived in Northam. Prostitutes, thieves, someone nicking my car. Daily life in Southampton.
Just looking at these places makes me feel depressed. I can't imagine how I'd feel living in them.
Go and check out Walsall in the West Midlands. It's where I'm from and I always joke it's where people end up when they've been evicted from every other council estate in the country. I left there in 2020 and it was the best decision I ever made.
yeah…… but 'crack' is bangin'
