Nestled between the sea and rugged limestone mountains, Toulon boasts picturesque beaches, a charming old town with bustling markets, and a scenic harbor—the French Navy’s main base. Visitors can ride the Mont Faron cable car for breathtaking panoramic views, explore naval history at the Musée National de la Marine, or relax at Mourillon Beach. We are Tom and Dom and we experienced our first cruise on the MSC Virtuosa during her UK staycation cruises in 2021. We are relatively new to cruising, however we can now say we are officially hooked.

Our mission is provide a fair and balanced review of our travels. We look at the types of food that is available onboard, from main dining rooms, room service, buffets and pool side snacks.

[Music] well hello and welcome to ton yesterday Mel Voyager is in France and we are off to explore the beautiful town of tulon we kind of have to get off the ship and then get on a little boat and then we’re fered across into the center of tulon cuz we’ve docked just on the opposite side so little bit unusual hi if you’re new to our Channel we are Tom and Dom travel and we release a new cruise and travel related video every single single week so if you haven’t done so already make sure you hit that subscribe button and don’t forget to give this video a like so it was pretty easy to disembark the ship we disembark the ship as normal but we soon had to cross over the road and onto the pier where we joined a separate queue in order to Embark a local Ferry the port area here on this side of the water is small and there were a number of local shops selling a few little Trinkets and gifts now outside of the port area is where you join the queue to wait for the local Ferry lucky for us a local Ferry was just arriving as we arrived so we managed to get on pretty quick and we got some seats up on the top deck so we could get some great shots of Voyager as we were sailing past now the journey took around 15 minutes and as Dom said it was a really good journey because we got a beautiful views of tulon and of Mela Voyager it was a nice easy process from start to finish and and we ended up docking just in the harbor area of tulon and it was beautiful now the harbor area was quite busy so as soon as we got off the local Ferry we then found ourselves in a square where there was a small mini train waiting now at this point there was quite a CER on the mini train and the train was already full so we did take note of that but decided to go for a walk into tulon itself first we walked along the harbor area and there were lots of little local bars and restaurants all dotted alongside and it was just picturesque and beautiful with all of the boats in the harbor most of these restaurants seem set up to be wanting to serve people food rather than just a bar or a cafe so we were on the lookout for somewhere to have a drink so we walked all the way along the harbor area and we ended up in the famous tulon rugby ground we we didn’t end up in there no outside of the stadium there is listed all the wins that ton have achieved and it’s quite interesting if you are rugby fans to go and take a look we then headed back into town just to have a look and we came across a huge Street Market now this Market seemed to have mostly fruit and veget stores cuz as we walk through one after the other there were fruit and veg being sold by all the market Traders but each store still seemed to be really busy there was the odd store selling things like olives and once again really really busy the streets of tulon were beautiful and it was really busy and nice to see people purchasing fruit and veg from these Market stalls myself and Tom did comment and say it’s a huge shame that we don’t really have these back in the UK the fruit variety was exceptional there lots of things that you would never seen a local supermarket in the UK we did a loop through town around and back to where we got off the ferry and there was one of those little tourist trains just waiting there for us so what we did we saw that and we thought right what time is the next train leaving and we realized we had about half an hour to spare so then we found ourselves a seat in one of the local Waterfront bars one that did actually serve drinks and not just food sat there and enjoyed an ice cold beer while we waited for our slot on the mini train the bars location overlooking the water was beautiful and that cold beer was desperately needed because once again the weather on this Cruise has been incredible every single port we’ve been to the sun has been shining it’s been beautiful now I’ve said that fingers crossed it lasts yeah fingers crossed hopefully tomorrow in Barcelona will be just as warm now time soon passed and it was time to get on the mini train luckily for us it was much quieter than what we’d noed when we arrived about 2 hours earlier so we jumped straight on the train got a seat on the first carriage and it wasn’t long before we headed off the train tickets cost us €9 each and we think that’s incredible value it was a 50 minute Journey around all of the historic sites of tulong now it was an unusual start because we did seem to pass quite a few car Parks but after we got through that part of the town we then moved on to some more historical sites we did end up passing the rugby stadium once again that we saw but also we passed through some of the old Harbor area we then moved on to some of the local beaches pass some of the restaurants and through to the naval area of tulon yes tulon is a big Naval area of France and you could definitely see quite a few warships the beach in tulon were full of people enjoying themselves and they were beautiful the vast majority of them are man-made however you really couldn’t tell the train itself had a full commentary all the way through the Journey giving you all the highlights that you were passing into L and it was also in both French and English overall we thoroughly enjoyed the experience it was something that I’d never done we’ve been to Port and destinations in the past where tourist trains have been available and it’s never been something that I thought oh I need to do that however in the future it’s definitely something I’d consider the train dropped us off where it started and luckily for us a ferry was just about to leave and as we approached the lady sort of clipped the barrier closed and we were like please please let us on and fortunately for us she did so we quickly hurried on and then we were sailing straight back to Voyager luckily for us we got a seat right at the front of the ferry so once again we were able to enjoy those amazing views the ferry Journey Back was roughly about 15 minutes so not too long at all although this time it was a little bit bumpier as we passed by quite a few wakes of other boats using the waterways here in tulon and there definitely was a few woo woo but it was H it was fine it wasn’t too rough at all once we docked alongside Voyager we did have to go through security and again there were minimal cues and we were straight back on really efficient and quick thanks for watching our day in tulon here on Mela Voyager if you’ve got any comments or questions just pop them in the box below and we’ll get back to you 4. the weekly (daily if willing to drive a short distance) outdoor markets are really great. its been a cool cultural experience living here (near Toulon) for the last year. you can get to know the person who brings your produce often has a part in growing it. people tend to have a favorite vendor and often keep going for years. fresh fish, baked goods, and so much more. i keep meaning to take the tour but keep saying some day lol
