Yesterday I ran my first ultra marathon—the 8 Stations Ultra by Charm Bracelet Trail Events.

30 miles from Whitby to Pickering, across the North York Moors, in full sun and heat.

Brutal, beautiful, and unforgettable.

Yesterday I ran my first ultramarathon and it was the eight stations ultra from Whippby to Pickering and it was 30 miles over the moors in the blazing heat. So we started at the Cinder track in Whitby and quickly headed out onto the trails. So this ultra is called the eight stations ultra because it goes through eight different stations on the North Yorkshire Steam Railway. There were four checkpoints along the way and the food was excellent. The marshalss were just so lovely and they had these dunking station bucket things that you could put your buffs in, that you could put your hats in and it made so much difference. So we worked our way over to Ghostland where we had a welcoming committee. We got some more fuel and headed up onto the moors. So this section was eight miles between the two checkpoints because there was no road access and it was hot. It was exposed moors. And we then got up to the whole of Hawham for the next checkpoint before we ran towards Leversham which was the final checkpoint. Unfortunately after Leversham we did get a little bit lost. Apparently no one else had a river crossing on their route. Thankfully, we managed to get back on track again so that we were following the actual route with some more trains. And we came back into Pickering with the most beautiful welcoming committee into the hall where we got given our t-shirts and medals.
