THE TIM MERLIER WIN, WITH VAN DER POEL SHOW, EQUALS ONE AMAZING RACE DAY
[Applause] What’s up in the sleepy sage legs media? What a day. It was the Tim Maria win, but today was definitely the Matthew Van show. Before we get into anything, remember to hit the like button, subscribe to the channel, and now we are going to jump into this. So, it was crazy from Columbia Zero. Uh his name is Ricketts from Albus Kernik. He’s a teammate of Matthew Venderpool. And when he went, he Matthew Vanderpool said, “Okay, uh I’m going to come with you.” And they got a gap of a couple minutes leading up to the first intermediate sprint. And everyone thought they were just going for the intermediate sprint points so Matthew could stay within the competition. But I’m going to tell you what the real story was in a minute. That was not the case. His name is Jonas Ricketts. So let’s get into the story of what was the reason for today’s move. So apparently the last person you make a bet or joke with is Matthew Vanderpool. So in the team bus or in the hotel or wherever they were just uh uh you know just together talking among amongst each other. Yonas said aloud in the presence of Matthew Veniper, you know, it would be cool to get the combativity prize so I could get on a podium because I’ve never been on a podium. Now we have to dial it back. Why has Jonas never been on a podium? is because he is a workhorse for the team. When they need somebody to go to the front and uh you know try to pull a breakaway back or get the lead out started, he’s the guy. He goes to the front and he just works hard. Just he’s just one of those domestics that is really reliable, really, really strong and one you can count on. So, but the mistake he made was he said that in front of Matthew Vanderpool. Matthew Vanderpool was like, “Okay.” So once uh Jonas went, Jonas Ricketts, don’t get him confused of Vingar, you vingard, but once Jonas went, Matthew said, “Okay, what the hell?” They got to the break through the intermediate sprint and they had a a bundle of time. And with that bundle of time, so it was like, “Okay, um Matthew said, okay, we’re going to because you initiated the break, it looks like we could get you on the podium.” So then it it it was crazy because it’s Matthew Vanderpool. How do you sit in the in the in the in the field and you give a man like Matthew Vanderpool five minutes? So it went to 2 minutes, 3 minutes, four minutes and it was five minutes. It was almost six minutes they had at one point and it was like are are you serious? Are you you guys playing with fire like that? And the the crazy thing is Matthew Venderpool got 750 meters from the finish line and I was willing in the moon. I think everyone watching around the world I was willing know Matthew Vanderville that he would win the stage. But as I predicted yesterday if it came down to a sprint Tim Miller would be the man because it’s a more of a traditional sprint is flat out and it requires more speed where where uh Jonathan Milan is more of a power man. If the sprint requires a bit more power, it’s definitely one for Jonathan Milan, which which you saw yesterday. But tomorrow is the big mountains and it’s going to be a doozy and it’s all to play for. And then I mentioned that because Vizma was on the front like it’s almost like they were trying to do the thing that they did uh was it in Perry? I can’t remember which race it was, but they made this brilliant move in one of the stage races where at least five of them got into a and they just separated themselves and I think the only other team that was able to bridge to him was Inos. So, it was is basically Inoss and Vizma Lisa back and they was such a stunning move that they did and it was like they were trying it again today. But here’s my thing. Here’s where I’m sort of like thinking guys that’s not really that smart. You have possibly one of the hardest days tomorrow before the rest day. And you know today is looking for tomorrow because tomorrow is a a definite playground. So we’re we pulled up the profile. We’re going to have a quick look at the profile. And there are what is it? 1 2 3 4 5 6 like seven seven eight. Eight classified climbs tomorrow. All of the classified climbs are category 2 except for the dirt to last climb which category 3. The longest climb is 5 km long and then the shortest one is 3.3 km long. So it’s going to be an interesting day. And then it just got me to thinking what I was talking about just earlier was like, you know, one of the reason for having to look at the profile was because Vizma Lisa Bike was on the front doing a lot of work trying to separate the ballot, trying to get time on people like maybe trying to see if they could put Bugattache in trouble and to me that just seemed a little counterproductive. productive because you’re going to need that energy tomorrow. And the crazy thing is P Pogy and none of his team the only person that really was on the front doing anything was Tim Wellins. But Tim Wellins was probably doing something because Track Little probably came to came to, you know, UAE and said, “Could you could we could we get one of your guys to help out in the chase?” And like apparently because that’s what the track guys were doing that what the track management was doing was trying to get, you know, get as much help as they could from other from other um teams to try to chase back Matthew Venderpool and Yonas Ricketts. So they were able to do that and that’s why Tim Wellins, you know, used his matches today to to to I guess to help out. But to me, it just just seems, you know, why not do what UAE is doing? Just don’t bo don’t get involved with that because you got a lot of work to do tomorrow with this mountain stage. You could you see this mountain stage? You see this stage? You you see that? And you and you’re going to tell me you’re going to use your guys today on a flat stage. Just let the sprinters deal with what they got to deal with. And the crazy thing is if they don’t get Matthew back, no loss to you because you still got your guys that you need for tomorrow. And if if at all you you make everyone from Visma sit back. You make sure you just stay with the group. You don’t lose any time. And then you go to maybe track comes to you say, “Okay, we’ll give you one guy. We’ll give you camper nods at Campernards.” cuz he’s not really the climber type, but he can hold his own. But we’ll give you campa to to help to help out. But otherwise than that, like using all of your guys like that and like really putting your guys under pressure to to to hopefully to hopefully weaken today’s guys. But if you if you watched UAE just was not the at the front was non-existent. Buggy stayed near the front so he can just in case something happened so he didn’t get caught out. But they weren’t doing anything. So I I just just thinking just just thinking out loud. I just think that was not the smartest move if you you want your guys to be able to to help you to help Junice to put pressure on UAE tomorrow. But that’s a decision that they that’s that is the deci decision that they made and they’re going to have to live with that tomorrow. So, we’re going to see how that works out for them. But like I said in the beginning that that was a crazy um crazy crazy thing that happened with Yonas Rickets and Vanderpool and Yonas Rukits was standing sitting around saying, “Man, it’ be cool to get the combat combat combativity jersey because I’ve never been on the podium.” And lo and behold, Matthew goes, “Hey, we’re going to get you the jersey now. You get on the podium.” When they speak when I spoke to Yonas Ricketts at the end, he was totally done. He just rode his heart out. I mean, he rode his heart out. And uh he he did get a chance to get on the podium and that’s that’s that’s crazy because this this man works hard for the team. He is he is one of the like uh super super super lieutenant. And for Matthew Vanderboo to go all out and go, you know, go all out and all in for Jonas Ricketts to try to make sure he gets that jersey is crazy. You you man, you got to love Matthew Vanu. I mean, he is just a class act. And uh it’s I’m I’m glad that it worked out and I’m pretty sure wickets were, you know, look back at today and be like, damn, damn.
