Bikepacking through a marsh uphill in the rain with a crazy headwind = absolute misery in a trip like this 😅. We would never want to live that day again, but that’s how some days are on trips like this. It’s not all sunshine and rainbows. You are completely subjected to the elements. If we wanted it easy we’d choose a different travel style 😆.

This was the most difficult terrain we’ve ever bikep packed in. And after having bikepacked well over 6,000 mi, we’ve biked on a lot of different kinds of terrain. We are currently on a 1500m bike packing adventure down the UK. And after crossing into England and initially cycling some of the best trails of the entire trip in North umberland, we decided to take the adventurous way on the Great British Divide. If only we could go back and tell ourselves not to do this because we literally had to push our bikes uphill over 7 mi through a bog. The conditions were terrible as well with intense 30 plus mph headwinds and rain which added to the misery. We also had multiple river crossings because the trail was washed out in several sections and had to push our bikes almost the entire time. With no easy turnaround spot, we were stuck. The only saving grace for the day was a nice downhill section on the road, but even that was challenging and very sketchy because of the intense wind that almost knocked us over several times. If you ever find yourself in this area, do yourself a favor and skip the Morehouse Nature Reserve.
