A look at the positive impact of Sustrans’ bike to school scheme in Peterborough, UK

So yeah, so bike it’s been involved in Brewster Avenue for about five or six years. When we started, there was a little sad bike rack with no lights in. Uh Gemma and Eric have come in uh several times a year. We’ve enjoyed things like Dr. bike, scooter sessions, learn to ride, which have been really popular. Our parents come in and ask for them now. Um, and now you only have to look at our bike rack to to see what a big impact it’s had. It is full of bikes and scooters, and it’s fantastic. So, we we encourage our classmates to walk, scoot, or bike cuz we want to save our precious energy and using cars or buses will usually waste energy. We encourage them by standing at the gate and giving them stickers and they can write their names in a port. And every Friday we randomly uh take a piece of paper and read out the name and give them rewards. Which competitions have we done? Well, speak to speed one of you. a bigger walk and a wheel and um we’ve done the steps to lap plant and we’ve also done how and we’ve also done how many miles it is to the I think it’s Peterbor space station you tell us about um perhaps talk about the Kelard’s uh cinema um so there were bikes at the back and then some people had to like ride the bikes and then it will make the movie like have proud and happy. You know, people city council have been proud to work with Sustrans for several years. Um it’s absolutely phenomenal the change that we’ve seen in the bike at schools through the great efforts of Gemma and Eric and the rest of the Sustrans team and we look forward to working with them again in the future. Yeah, we had like a session with the sustrans people where we where we could pick our own bikes and then we we could like wash them and learn how to sustain our own bikes at home and to keep us ourselves safe. So being able to uh be safe with their bikes has been a a very important part of um the sustrans work. Um, having bike kit with us has meant that we’ve um been able to make sure that their bikes are maintained, they know what to do with their bikes, and then they’ve also been safe on the road um using them because of the skills and things they’ve learned in school. Well done, General. Heat. Heat.
