Could this be the first breakaway stage of the tour to France? There was a huge fight. Pagatcha a bit annoyed at Vizma after the stage. This begins in Bayer. Uh Emanuel Macron tweeted this morning that the Bayer tapestry which I visited when I was 10 years old more or less is being moved to the United Kingdom temporarily. Kevin Voca is from Bayer and it’s a hilly stage in which it’s going to be difficult to control. Albertson won’t control a couple of steep climbs near the finish too hard for the sprinters. So I thought big break fight straight away. But what’s this into Mare Wanty come with the full team out of neutral zone and they are controlling to the intermediate sprint at 22ks into the stage. Trex start to help for Johnny Milan. There’s a little hill before that intermediate sprint. They try to make it hard for Milan but Consan does a magic job through the chicane there. Milan wins it easily. But look who’s there. Look who is there. It’s not just Johnny Milan and Binnie. It’s also Matthew Vanderpool. Albertson have confirmed he’s now going for the green jersey. And let me freeze frame it again. Look who’s there. When’s the best time to go in the breakaway? Use the sprint leadouts to go across. Quinn Simmons and Ben Healey. Use that as a launch pad to get a free gap and away they go. A lot of the other riders would have been waiting for the first categorized climbs. Uh but on this rolling course, you can save a lot in the wheels, but Helian Simmons crazy strong today, the both of them. And then on that categorized climb, the jumping starts. Jack Hey is really good in this sort of punchy terrain. A few more riders get across to harder and Victor Campos, but it’s Simmons and Healey doing most of the work. UAE trying to, you know, assume some sort of control, but it’s brought back at the top of that climb. Simmons taking the K points. Van starts jumping. He’s got Pablo Castrio of Wter Espa stage win fame last year, but they’re brought back. And then the Kota, I can’t say it, is a very steep climb. 2.2K 8%. It’s Ben Healey again, Frank Vandenbrook. But now look at the names. Look at the riders in front. Kevin Vula, T Pagatcha, Wellins, Yonas Vingard, Victor Campen. It’s the big guns in front. Ben Healey right behind them with Simmons. And they jump over the top again. So I mean Ben Healey didn’t make the break by accident. He he made the break because he he was the one initiating the break and he was just the strongest today. dropped in break formation and the curious thing is uh comes a little bit after this but it looks like this group is gone. Machu Vanderpool the friend of Pagacha is gone. UAE they’re trying to put the block on. They got four riders in front. Alison in front the block is going on. No one else able to jump. The gap’s going to 40 seconds but Jurgensson says to let me in. I I’ll help you block. Bang. He attacks and this begins a whole other round. the whole extra half an hour, 45 minutes of jumping. Lipovitz, he jumps. Pagi was just about to get on the radio, but Lipovitz jumps as well on a false flat downhill. Very strong again today. Florine Lipovich just not the best timing, especially with Rogich just coming back. You know, X want to be in the breakaway. And so this break, which I thought was gone, it kind of was. Dumbar incredibly strong snap bridges across in less than two minutes. Simon Yates tries his luck. UA you’ve got three Navis Well and Solair he’s on the radio saying I’m being shut down in Austin you know X aren’t giving me much help and so he goes back to the middle of the group it looks like all right you are you happy with this break vulnerable can take yellow Simon Felipe goes again with a long attack he’s got Bari in the wheel as well as Michael Stora drops the wheel of store it looks like he’s flicking Simon Yates Solair if he holds on he’s going to close it but he can’t continue on these nasty drags he flicks through Jonathan Nvasz and he can’t control this final jumping phase with Store first getting across to this very strong breakaway and then Simon Philip Yates. I think there was like 18 combined Grand Tour stage wins in this breakaway. All big riders, you know the names of all of them. Kevin Vocal wasn’t happy though. The jumping continued. The white jersey holder for the last four, five stages. Wellins assumes control. Plet comes back. UAE then start to pace, but will they keep a, you know, a lid on it? Will they control? It’s been a hectic 50ks an hour for nearly two hours, 100ks. Vanderpool can go into the yellow jersey. Will they be happy with that? He’s on 1 minute 28. Initially, it looked like no because Plet rode for quite a long time with the gap pegged from 120 to 130 until Wellins comes to him and after that conversation, the gap starts to expand significantly. So, it was going to be the breakaways day. Three minutes would be more than enough for this break. They actually get much more than that. And there’s quite a lot of cooperation on the K points. There was no serious attacks. I mean, this is a a pretty hard climb. Is Ben Healey Dumbar going to jump? Store, I think, was pretending to go for the K and then hoping it would lull the guys behind him into a false sense of security and then use the K sprint to go clear. But Vanderpool was alive to it. But not enough people were alive to the Ben Healey false flat attack. He got back up to speed at the back of the group. Vanderpool was already cooked. They just gone over that climb. And at this point, 41ks to go. I knew, we all knew the stage is over. And Amster Gold Race when he came second. He’s impossible to bring back. This group is tired. And Ben Healey, I mean, they knew he was going to do this. Everybody knew Ben Healey was going to go long and there was pretty much nothing they could do to stop it. They even collaborated. These are strong riders. Stora, uh, Simmons, really strong riders. The gap though had gone to 6 minutes to Ben Healey. So was pacing quietly. Vanderpool looked like he was going to go into the yellow jersey easily, but the final terrain was quite, you know, steep climbs, two-minute climbs, and Vanderpool got dropped by Will Bart and Eddie Dunar. I forgot to mention Will Bart extremely strong in Swiss and in this stage today actually. But Ben Healey takes his first tour to France stage. when he played it right today. He was by far the strongest. He made every move in the first two hours and then destroyed that break uh including with Matthew Vanderpool in it putting him on 4 minutes in 41ks. But Vizma behind we didn’t see much coverage of what was happening in the group behind Bernard doing a lead out on the final hill. Lipovitz for the second time this stage attacking when Rogich is under pressure. Armda was really really suffering today. He got dropped on this climb on this explosive finish. Jorgensson goes with 125 m and T Pagatcha says not so fast. If there’s a sprint happening, he is going to win it. So no big GC gaps. Almeida was put on 5 seconds with Raglich, but between Remco and Co. there wasn’t. Healey wins the stage ahead of Quinn Simmons and Stoa Dumbar Signara then Vanderpool. Pagatra on 527. Vingard in 10th. Here’s what Hilly had to say after the race. Yeah, I mean it’s just unbelievable. It’s uh yeah really what I’ve worked all for you know like not just this year just the whole time you know it’s uh really really incredible and uh yeah just hours and hours of hard work from so many people and to to do pay them back today just yeah really really amazing cuz you had already won a stage of Italia a couple of years ago. Um did you feel that you had it you had what it t took to to win on the greatest race on the greatest stage of the world? Yeah, I think uh la last year it was uh yeah, real eye opener and uh really made me believe that I could do it and uh yeah, just just knuckle down and did the hard work and uh tried to refine yeah my racing style as well, you know, just uh lots of race footage watched and uh yeah, really paid off today. I think in terms of GC though, Vanderpool keeps the jersey by a single second ahead of T Pagatcha. We thought he was going to take it by minutes, but that GC group came back fast and Vanderpool slowed down in the finish. Pagatra still a very very comfortable lead over all of his main competitors particularly Vingard. Hope you enjoyed the recap and I’ll see you at the murder bratanni one tomorrow.

Vinegar being a wheelsuck once again.
As an Irishman, only one thing to say "Ben, Ben, Ben, Ben, Ben, Ben, Ben, Ben, Ben, Ben, Ben, Ben," there is a banging dance beat to the back of these lyrics and he deserves every bit of it
Sick of Pog
Feels like Bora is done with Roglic. They'll keep up appearances but this feels like its Lipowitzs Team already. Honestly can't blame them tho. While last year Primoz at least was a Top4 Rider this year he's probably closer to Top10
Why did Jonas wear the polka dot jersey and not Tim Wellens who had more points?
Tadej is obviously the golden child. He's allowed to dope, and every issue in the race will be slanted to benefit him.
Ben is amazing
Why did Yates put himself in the break? Surely he's going to be a big player for Jonas in the mountains so why did he expend so much energy today? Surely as the giro winner one stage win isn't worth risking GC for!
great recap!
Roglic having another domestique being stronger and younger again 😂
I'm just happy we are having great stages. Good spectacle. Who wins is irrelevant as a viewer.
wish i stayed up to witness BEN HEALY THE FUCKING MAN
I'd like to see Ben's power output for the stage, it was one of the most impressive rides I've ever seen.
Props to Healy. He's funny to watch because looking at him he doesn't look strong and he doesn't look like a very good rider. I mean, he's all squirrelly and his shoulders are rocking and his pedal stroke doesn't look smooth, but who cares about all that if he can do a ride like today??
Is Ben Healy the new Leonard Kamna? 👀
Long overdue for this win, TBH. Great last Tour, great in both Olympics and Worlds, great earlier in the season… everytime he's in the breakaway, it's always a fun time to watch! A much deserved win for, arguably, the best breakaway rider in the world right now (one of the best, at least)!
Ben Healy on a hilly stage 💯
Sometimes a stage win doesn't come in an epic sprint or a powerful climbing attack — careful planning & preparation, combined with optimal break composition and a slyly executed punch, will do the trick . Chapeau to Ben and EF for playing the game
Ben did what Ben does best! Chapeau!
1:51 ran-son-EE-air 😂
That first syllable is tricky; it’s clipped. Can’t think of an equivalent in English… (I suspect LR knows perfectly well how to pronounce this anyway)
🔥 Best stage so far! 😮
As a newer fan, theres this whole group of guys like Roglic and Van Aert who everybody seems to like, and talk about as if theyre threats to win, but theyre honestly just dead weight.
despite the annoying clickbaity titles, these videos are quite good
Healy blessed me with €630 today
Anglophone domination!
I appreciate EF’s approach to riding grand tours so much. You never feel like they’re just there filling space like SOME teams.
Blamo…. Young Bucks Healy and Simmons… Some baller riding. Pogi has earned the attacks against, so no whinging eh?
Thanks for the coverage, Patrick.
40 km TT for ben … why nobody agrees to work for MVDP… because if they do it they can get cooked by the end. but tomorry is part 2 MVDP will try again same strategy could not be the case but maybe a more risky
Congrats to Ben! The Bearded Eagle is looking strong though 😳 I hope he can take a stage this tour
1:49 The pronunciation is: cot do la Rang Song Nyerrre
Pogi willing to pass yellow jersey to anyone except a Visma😅
More wheel sucking from Jonas. No surprise there. Yawn. Ben Healey! Wow.
Sadly Roglic is done, Bora should bet for Lipowitz! Possibly this season they bag in Remco and Roglic either moves on or is okay to play 2nd with remco.
Pogi is taking too much of the juicy juice. Visma pushing themselves to catch up at the end so that they could lose time to Van der Poel. And in the beginning, why not try the break?
He wanted to go faster and rode up to tell his teammate to go faster, even though most of them were gassed. The team car had to tell them to slow down.
Pogi thinks only of himself. He used to draft off Rovglic in his first and second Tour de France and has drafted off Jonas. His ego will be his downfall.
Why so many people are on team Pogi is a mystery to me. And yes, I see the unbelievably fresh wins when everyone else looks like they've cycled 100 kms.
And of course there is subterfuge. Stage 4 finish when Joao did a lead in for Van der Poel so that he could block Jonas and Pogi could win..
Morning ritual: watch TDH highlights for the drama, then watch lanterne rouge for in depth info
Love your take on the tour. Look forward to these 3 weeks every year. For me, it's first to NBC Sports extended highlights then over to Lanterne Rouge for the explanation of what happened. Roglic deserves the attacking Lipowitz as a "teammate". Thank you.
I dont get what is visma doing. Yes they are trying to wear down pogi but why push so hard? They do know that everytime they push that hard, Jonas will have to do so to. Pogi and team didnt even bother to response because there was no reason to. People have to know UAE only goal is to win GC and to win it you need to do very well in the mountains. We all know who are the riders who will dominate in those stages. Riders like MVP can take the yellow jersey now but deep down we know they will never win GC
It’s amazing how every single European rider, when speaking English, punctuates their sentences with “yeah” at least 5 times. True even for Irish riders
To me it seems like VLAB is trying the same tactics from 2022, 2023. But Pogačar has evolved since then and VLAB doesn't have multiple favorites in their team. UAE has also strengthened significantly while VLAB is much weaker than those years. Not sure what tactics would work to defeat Pogačar short of crossing your fingers and hope he gets gastro.
Ben Healy owned that race!
Healy rode a quite superb Stage! Tactically and physically… 💪💪
M 🦘🏏😎
hell yeah, Healy. reap what you sow.
The Cote' de I Can't Say It. This is why we all love this channel.
Does media obligations really make that much of a difference in recovery that it’s worth spending rider effort to attack?
er, that headline?
Strong effort from Ben Healy💪🏼😎
ya
Congrats Ben Healy! Also a very strong ride by the big Mathieu Van der Poel!
I understand having the safety requirement of everyone wearing a helmet, but I do miss the days when guys didn’t have to wear them. Everyone today just looks like the same sterile and robotic prototype. I def miss being able to easily recognize guys like Lance Armstrong, Marco Pantani, Jan Ullrich, and Mario Cipolini. Those guys actually had swag and aura when you saw them ride by. The equipment today is so bland and ubiquitous and everyone looks like a carbon copy of one another.
