I didn’t plan to attend the Tour de Suisse. But when I found out the finish line was just down the road from my hotel, I grabbed a bike and decided to blend in with the pros. Here’s what happened when I tried to sneak past security, into VIP, and onto the team buses.
Today I’m going to try to sneak into the tour to Swiss. This is Scott’s hometown. They’ve got a pro team that they support and a special VIP section which I’m going to see if we can get us in. So I think there’s a big group ride that’s heading up to the start and I’m just going to try to integrate in with them. So you media or what’s Yeah, I do a YouTube channel. Okay, cool. What’s it called? It’s called Everything’s Been Done. Everything’s been tested. Okay. Scott flew me out for a media event and I just happened to catch wind that the tour to Swiss was going to be ending in the same town that my hotel was in. There was going to be a group ride from Scott that goes to the finish of the tour to Swiss. The plan is to try and just keep up with this group and just pretend I’m part of them to get into the finish. Even if I can’t get in, this is going to be worth the effort. I I hope. Oh my god, these guys are hammering. Okay, so this is actually part of the course. [Music] So much for a recovery ride. These guys are killing me. [Music] So, the bike I’m riding today, Addict RC. Fun fact, exact same bike that the pros are riding. Yeah, they don’t get any special layup or special custom geometry. They ride the exact same thing that’s available to everybody else. That’s interesting. And this guy’s a loner. I just got to make sure I get it back to them before the sun goes down. Should be fine. 10k to go. [Music] I don’t really know what the group just stopped here. I don’t understand what this is all about. I don’t think this is the finish though. Ooh, it’s good. Now the sprint begins. I feel like I’m not supposed to be here right now. Uh, Germany. No, English four. I I don’t know what he was telling me to do. So, how’s this for a finish? Holy cow. The race right now. [Music] This is like a full village based up around the finish line. Here are all the pro tour buses and there’s got to be like 50 buses. Who are you with? I’m with the um the the media people. Oh, okay. Sure. doing a full race, but this is it’s full Wi-Fi. So, we’ve got like we’ve actually got a satellite, so we use the Starlink is where we do all of our work. This is where the riders, you know, build themselves up for a race, and this is where we do the debrief. This is their safe house. It does about 55,000 km a year, kind of a cave more flattish. So, we actually have a like a a line straight into the into the T- car. So, when our riders get off the bus, they take their Garmin head units and they’ve come straight onto here. and then you know before they’ve even sat down it’s all connected into you know into the garment connect account and then our coaches can access that information and then you know put it into training peaks and start to assess what happened in the race or you know what what happened to them and then we have a discussion with the sports director and then we create context around the the data and then we can make informed decisions literally before the riders have even showered as soon as they finished they have their recovery shake so once they’ve showered and they have a meal we drive straight to the next hotel where they then get massaged and then have dinner and then go to bed cuz the more we can fuel them at the moment, you know, then they can recover quicker because every half an hour we delay their recovery as time that they that they lose the next day. So, it’s always around, you know, optimizing everything as fast as possible. We’ll be the only team bus in this paddock that has separate showers so that the riders are depending on their beliefs or their backgrounds or whatever that they could have separate environments where they could shower. Every other bus and every other team normally has showers together. So riders will shower two or three people together in a shower and then you can come and sit in the back my office. And the nice thing for me is that our bus has a keypad access. So I don’t have to wake the bus driver up. You just punch in a key and then as you walk into the bus, the whole thing lights up and is ready to to go. Okay, let’s go. Nice to meet you. Nice to meet you. That was awesome. The thing that I can’t believe is that they actually do those tours like during the race. Like I can see the race right now. It’s happening. They’re like, “Yeah, here. Let me show you the tour.” While we’re in the middle of this heated exchange of sporting activity, it’s like any event in any country. Just kind of going with the pack here. [Music] So, this is like a media room. There’s a live feed of the tour, snacks. They got even more food, barbecue, all kinds of stuff. Crazy to think how that is going to be right here in just a few moments. All right. So, that’s it. That’s what a pro bike race is like in Switzerland. But to find out how I actually got here, well, to do that, you’ll have to watch this video. And it was a Well, I’m tired. Let me just put it that way. [Music] [Music]

Ahh, the old stick out like a sore thumb confused lost technique to gain entry. Classic.

Yeah if you look like you'd kinda not rather be there, but have to be there, it works pretty often.
I thought that last rider was wafting a fart before I noticed the van.
The look that bloke gave you as you sat down on the Q bus! Hahaha. Absolute gold mate👍.

Did the group ride have a NEUTRALIZED finish?
There’s only one race that can be called The Tour with caps. Clickbait.
