Okay, so now we’re going to do a tour of Kevin’s house in Sanguini, which is near Aspe in the Pyrenees in the Hokaran region. So we’re going to start in this room. So Kevin, can you just tell us what you do in this room? Certainly. This room, which is one of my favorites, is called a loia in French. And uh it is a uh an enclosed room with with a with pork finet. But two big openings, although you can close those down with roller vines. Fantastic room for entertainment. It really is. Table chairs, my plant shirt, so I do my cooking and my guests can I can talk to my guests at the same time. I’m an artist. Uh so I painted here. And as we go over to the window, you will see that the river is right below about 6 or 7 m. Um certainly no fear of flooding if you come up this high and the land opposite is lower. And the garden is laid to some flowers and shrubs and trees and uh right the way through to the corner there on the right hand side. I fish in this river and unusually half of the river in line with a house is actually owned by the property which is really quite fun. So you’ve got your own private fishing river and you presume you can paddle in it as well. Exactly that. Well in fact uh last summer uh it was a little bit hot and I got in I swam um just up on the corner there. It’s a lot deeper, but it’s a great place to just sit in there to cool off, but at the same time, sometimes I sit down by the RI river, glass of wine, of course, sitting in the shade. Very pleasant indeed. And to make use of the room as well, then I’ve got my weights bench. I do my exercises in here. Bit of yoga, stuff like that. So, it’s a very practical room with lots of uses. And uh yeah, it’s one of my favorites without a doubt. And one of the beauties is because there’s no glass in there, you get the fresh air coming in, but you’ve actually got these electric shutters above that completely enclose the room and make it secure. Absolutely, Carol. And uh the noise of the river, which is very appealing. It’s good for our soul. I sit in here in the morning uh early morning listening to the birds, the river, having my coffee, quissants. Uh it’s uh it’s a great place to be. And interestingly, because the whole house is uh very well double glazed, once you’re inside the main house, you lose all that noise and uh so the outside noise doesn’t doesn’t penetrate the house at all. It’s lovely the sound of the river. Should we go into the main room then? Yeah, sure. Follow me through. So, this room is how large, Kevin? So, this is the the main salon. Uh it is 63 uh square meters. um which is pretty unusual. I mean, how many houses have a have a room, the main room this size? You kind of say it to be divided into four. I’ve got the dining room area, which is right next to the kitchen area, but then I’m a musician, so I play the drums, and so there’s a great space there. And then another bonus with the house is the fact that there’s no I’m not overlooked. There’s no neighbors. I can play the drums as loud as I want. I’m not going to disturb anyone. sort of the sofa area. Great place for sitting, reading, uh digestive after the meal, of course, sitting there with with my uh with my guest. And the kitchen, which is was a real selling point for me when I bought the house. Uh this is a Germanmade kitchen, fitted kitchen, very high standard. Uh I’m 180 181 in cm tall and the work surface are perfect for me. You often get work surfaces that are just too low, but this is this is excellent. Certainly in the old French houses, they’re quite low, aren’t they? Definitely. Uh, one of these um plaques here, which is the um I think it’s a magnetism, I think, but cooks instantly. Very good oven fan assisted extractor fan. Uh, fridge, dishwasher, soft closed drawers all the way through. and and snacks of storage space on inside the kitchen and on the outside of the units as well. Also storage. And also, I’ve noticed now you’ve just had this window put in which is bringing in lots more light. Yeah, I um I found I like a lot of light. I I do my preparation here on this side and then I cook on the other side. And the I had the Vel window put in by a professional and and that really gives uh the house is bright anyway. And that really makes the kitchen a really bright area. And also today it’s 28° and this is really cool in here. Yeah. The insulation’s good in this house, isn’t it? Absolutely. The walls I mean it was a the house was an old pigy so it’s uh been it was made in 1929 I think. And uh the walls are very thick and that keeps the heat out and and just so the house generally holds the heat in the winter when you’ve heated it and uh keeps the cool in the summer. And then this is the main entrance to the house here, isn’t it? It is indeed which is a really lovely big space. It’s a nice uh open area. Um stacks of storage. the the whole house is really blessed with storage, which me because I come with a lot of equipment, having been a mountain guide, uh is great for storing uh all my all my equipment and things. Um cupboard’s good all with with places for shoes, for jackets, so you can just change your shoes as soon as you come into the house, which is great. Even room in Huffford. And I’ve noticed your paintings on the wall. Kevin likes to paint as well, which is why he loves that first room. Okay, this is a utility room, uh, which is great. Again, another storage, plenty of and and also I can shut away the the washing machine, the Hoover, uh, sink, um, which is where which is great as an artist because I can wash all my brushes and things and it’s away from the main house. I love rooms like this cuz it keeps all the rest of the house tidy. It does indeed. Exactly. And it’s a big cumulus for your hot water as well. So plenty of hot water. Plenty of hot water. Um a heat pump which is German made again showing. Yeah. Yeah. Very good indeed. Yeah. And all the shelving units here uh just behind the door there. Plenty of room for a dishwasher. Dishwasher, sorry, freezer. And um that’s a great space for storage. And then there’s another toilet there. So there there are three toilets in the house. Perfect. And and you’ve got VMC as well. Yeah. Yeah. Okay. So, a VMC is an extractor fan for everybody who’s not French. Okay. So, through to the master bedroom. Um it’s uh very comfortable room. Uh bedroom’s a bedroom, I suppose. Uh central heating is very efficient. um nice aspect out onto the the garden there. You can’t see into the house. The the glass is uh like a reflective type glass so you can’t see into the bedroom. And again, you’ve got the electric shutters and electric shutters and blinds in this room as well. And again, a lovely cool room in summer. Yeah. Yeah. And then through to the on suite bedroom. And again, look, his and hers wardrobes. Wish my wardrobes are that tidy. K. Perfect. Yeah. Uh, another toilet down here. So, there’s a toilet there. Just peep in there for me. Is that all right? Fantastic. Um, walk-in shower. Yeah. Again, storage on the left hand side. Yeah. I mean, the house is really blessed with storage. More than I can use. Yeah. Um, walk-in shower, bday, sink, drawers. It’s got quite a Moroccan type. It is influence, isn’t it? It’s nice. Yeah. Superb. And again, it’s tractor fans everywhere. So, yeah. Tail run. Yeah. Okay. Perfect. So, I’ll walk out and you can follow me. Okay. Should we go upstairs? Yeah. Lovely. So, this room here is probably well, a there’s a lot of storage because it’s been turned over to to cupboards. Um, but it’s the join between the two parts of the house because the house would have been a house for living in and then the house for the pigs. Yeah. And so downstairs facing going leading to the river is where the pigs would stay and then the pig owners if you like would have lived in this part of the house. So this particular join um doesn’t really have much function apart from the storage space for me because I come with climbing stuff, canoe stuff, uh bike stuff, everything you can think of as a mountain guide would. This is ideal. Be a great little office as well if you wanted it to be. You could. Yeah, I’ve had a desk in here before and a computer on it. And um Yeah. Yeah. So it’s uh it’s light and airy and uh Yeah, it’s very nice. And the house is immaculate. Everything’s decorated. Fresh. Yeah, it’s lovely. So, two bedrooms up here. One on the left hand side there, which overlooks the parking area, which we’ll have a peep at afterwards. Yeah. So, another good double size room. Yeah. And um standard room, good heating, good double glazing. Uh the house does sit on the road, but um anyone Okay. Then I’d invite anyone to come in and and do it. Listen for themselves. You do not hear the traffic at all. I’ve not heard any traffic today. No. And plus the fact that the road only goes to either Sangueni the village or to one of the the coals. Yeah. So it’s not like it’s a thorough affair to anywhere else. Bathroom there with a shower unit, toilet, sink unit. Okay. Well, yeah. A nice large shower as well. Perfect. And then the third bedroom which overlooks the other side of the garden. So, the north side. And again, just a standard room. Double glazing. But again, immaculate. Nothing to do. This really is a house. You can just bring your bags and start to live here or enjoy if it was a second home. Yeah. And presumably because of the location, if somebody bought it as a second home, if they wanted to, they could rent it as well. Yeah. Very easily. There’s a lot to do around in this region. Absolutely. And and one of my ideas before I made the idea that I’d like to go traveling again uh was to perhaps run a bed and breakfast Shambraote here. Uh because I know that cyclists are always looking for accommodation, walkers all the way through the year. Uh people that come skiing, this is an ideal place. And although it’s just three bedrooms, you could manage with that because it’s a nice number. uh and and lots of interesting things with sitting out on the terrace, sitting out at the front of the house, sitting by the river, having meals. I like entertaining and uh this would be a super house for and also you get people visiting elderly parents in the village and there’s nowhere to stay. Definitely. You know, I used to get when I had a bed and breakfast, I had a lot of people like that who were just coming seeing relatives for the weekend. Perfect. You know, okay. Okay. So, we’ll go back downstairs and then go outside, shall we? Yeah. Fantastic. So, this is the north side and the terrace, although you’ll see it’s bathed in sunlight for this time of the year. Uh, and I had a lot of fun out here. There’s a uh stoneuilt barbecue, table and chairs, overlooks the river. That noise of the river is lovely. Yeah. Then I’ve got some garden furniture again. Yeah. And um Yeah, this is a splendid place to go. Yeah. And then you’ve got the garden with trees and Yeah. Nice garden. There’s the um micro station which is new. I don’t know if you can just see the little green tops to it there in the garden and that conforms, doesn’t it? So, no need to have a new Yeah, a new fossil in. There’s um the tree there is a khaki tree which produces a load of fruit. Very very tasty, very sweet. And then it the walk goes down to the river itself. Occasionally you will, if you catch it in the early morning, you’ll see a couple of deer that will wander through the garden to go down to the river to have a drink, which is all very nice. And uh because we’re in the countryside and it’s quiet, it’s rural, lots of wildlife, birds chirping in the in the morning. And as you say, you’re 5 minute drive into the center of Aspe with restaurants, two markets a week. Absolutely. Two bakers, butchers, candlestick maker. The lot. Yeah. I mean, Aspe is just uh it’s what you expect from a French village in your dream, isn’t it? Really? Definitely. Yeah. Okay. So, we go through to the other side. Yeah. Follow me. So, as we step out here into the gorgeous sunshine, there’s this passageway again that looks down over the river and table and chairs. And if you want the the hot afternoon sun, this is a great place to sit, have an imperative. And if you’re like me, you don’t, you can avoid the sun side of the house. Absolutely. So, you’ve got a choice, haven’t you? Yeah. And I’ve I’ve put in here there’s um rosemary, thyme, sage, mint, all the herbs. So, when I’m cooking, I just step outside and cut those. Bit of color with the flowers that are now blooming. Yeah. the cabin there that’s that houses all my equipment for the garden. Plus, I’ve got more bicycles in there as well. And you’ve got parking for how many cars here in? You get four in there and another two just out on the road there as well. Plenty of space. And then um so you’ve also got some water there, have you? For the plants. Both front and back have got hoses fitted. And and this is the tucked away in the corner here is the heat pump. Yeah. So, not making any noises and and um service the house well. Yeah. So, up the steps into the car park area. Yeah. You’ve got plenty of parking space there, haven’t you? And as you say, you’ve got storage there for your little workshop and all your tools and equipment. I collect water, rain water for watering the garden. Fantastic. And look at this. Middle of June. It’s probably hotter now than 28°, I think. Yeah. Uh the neighbor’s house this side, this is a holiday home. I see them maybe once or twice a year. Yeah. And then the next neighbor from home from there. He’s a super fellow France and a member of the Merry as well. Member great. Great neighbor to have if you need anything, you’ve got a question or you need help with something. And that I found Carol is that they’ve been really helpful. When I first came here, I was clearing a lot of the garden waste and uh it was all piled out the front there ready to sort of try to get to the dishery and one of the the staff the Mary came up with a digger, loaded it all and took it to the local tip for me. No charge, just people. I mean, I’ve been here now 23 years. I live about 35 minutes from Kevin and it’s just outstanding. People are just so welcoming, so nice, friendly. Um, [Applause] okay, Kevin. That That’s super. And so, sadly, you’ve put the house up for sale because now you want to travel again. You’ve got Yeah, I’ve I’ve traveled the world uh as a guide, mountain guide, and I’m now I’ve retired and I bought the house a couple of years ago and thought I would stay here, but now I’m thinking traveling. I’m missing the traveling. Yeah. And uh I’d like realize some of the cash uh from the house to go traveling again. And um and when that’s done, I’ll probably return to this area. I think it’s absolutely lovely. And also, you’ve always got a bed at my place, haven’t you? We’ve known each other for 14 years now. Okay. Thank you, Kevin.
