This is the Specialized Tarmac SL8 Limited, a Red Bull Bora Hansgo GC leader and fivetime Grand Tour winner, Primos Roblich. [Music] As most of you will notice, this paint job for the Tour to France is slightly different to what they’ve been using previously in the 2025 season. Specializ are actually selling 500 of these limited edition models to the general public. Much more of a dark blue design with some subtle Red Bull graphics underneath the Specialized and S Works logos on the fork blade and down tube respectively. Now, the Specialized Tarmac SL8 frame set has been around for a reasonable amount of time, so I won’t spend too much on it because not a huge amount has changed, but there is quite a difference when it comes to the wheel set and the tires that they’re using during the tour to France this year. Uh, they come from Roval and they’re part of three brand new wheel sets that Roal have released just ahead of this year’s Tour to France. These particular ones on Robick’s bike today are the CLX3s. Quite a big update versus the CLX2. All three wheel sets have got a deeper disc rim at the front than they’ve got at the rear. Uh Roval are basically saying that this allows them to keep almost all of the aerodynamic benefit whilst allowing them to save a significant chunk of weight as this wheel set is over 200 g lighter than the previous one. Uh some of that weight saving comes from these carbon composite spokes which they say are almost 2 g per spoke lighter than its predecessor. So, with 18 at the front here and 24 at the back, that’s already 80 gram of weight savings right there. Roval have also managed to save what they say is 50 g from the hubs, uh, which have DT Swiss internals and ceramic bearings, which come from sink. By the way, just in case you’re wondering what that rubber piece is around the right fork leg, uh, that will be where the transponder for the tour to France is put by the mechanics when they pick it up soon. Uh, but it’s not just the wheels that are new, it’s what’s on them. For a long time, specialized sponsored teams such as Red Bull, Bora Handgar, and Sudal Quickstep have been sticking with their standard clincher cotton tire. Uh, this one though, as you can see, is the cotton TLR, which I’d imagine stands for tubeless ready, although I’m yet to get confirmation of that. Roll Glitch on this bike has got 30 mm width tires, although they don’t look quite as chunky as some of the other 30 mil tires that I’ve been seeing here at the race. Roval also provide the one piece aero handlebar and stem combination. They’re quite hard to measure stem length of these modern aerodynamic bars because of the way that they curve around etc. I think it’s around about 12 cm. But what’s quite interesting is the handlebar width. As almost all of you will know, the UCI recently announced some key rule and regulation changes with equipment that will start at the beginning of next season. Uh one of which is a maximum handlebar width of 40 cm measured edge to edge. Well, pretty much Rog Glitch has nothing to worry about because these ones are close to 44 cm edge to edge. The other measurement they’ll be taking is internally between the hoods there. And this is also I’m finding quite interesting because the maximum you’re going to be allowed is 32 cm. Uh these are more like 31 and they’re not even pushed in that much for extra aerodynamics. So that’s going to be something that’s very different for a lot of rides in terms of their position next year. Uh Rob is running a full surround red axis groups there. But at the front here, you’ll notice he’s got a couple of those blips or sprinter shift buttons just here at the drops below the shifters themselves. [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] Going to move on to the gearing at the rear here now because this is something else that the UCI are experimenting with later on this summer. So quite a few people including some high-profile riders have asked the UCI to restrict how big the biggest gear is. The theory being that it should improve safety on downhill specifically because it will prevent riders being able to get up to extra speed and try and go past others when it’s up towards 90 or 100 km/h. Uh anyway, the Stram gearing, it means it’s a bit of a problem for those teams because all of their cassettes start with a 10 to this restriction that they’re going to try out in August is going to restrict teams to a 54 by 11. Uh currently, Rogich is riding a 54 and 41 to front chain ring, but the cassette here at the back runs from 10 all the way up to 36. So, not a problem at all obviously for the tour to France. That’s why this is on here. But any of the riders from those teams who are doing these races later on in the year, I don’t know what they’re going to do. I think the mechanics might have to just make it so they can’t get down to the 10 to which is not exactly I don’t know professional top level sport in my mind. Anyway, the groups there as I said is a Stram red axis. The cranks themselves not as short as quite a few of the riders are using. Patch are obviously using 165 uh vineyard down to 160s but Primos Rock is sticking with 170s which for his stature and modern standards is quite long. And finally, up at the top, he’s running a Specialized Phenom body geometry saddle. Uh, so with that, I think it’s time for me to do some measurements, weigh the bike, and do the allimportant free hub sound check. [Applause] Right, that’s the measurements done. Uh, so from the ground to the center of the bars here is around about 86 cm. measuring roughly from the center of the bars back horizontally to the tip of the saddle is around about 51 cm. And his saddle height measured from the center of the crank bolt here to roughly where I think he’s going to be perched on the saddle that is around 74 cm. Uh all that leaves me to do then is weigh it. So 6.92 kg now that I’ve taken the Garmin head unit and their bottles off which is very close of course to the UCI weight limit. So this is a very light bike indeed. Uh right then time for the allimportant free hub sound check which will get killed if I’m not doing it properly or at all. Really? I mean if that’s not worth a thumbs up and sharing this video with your mates and I do not know what is right. Stay tuned for Gint Tech for more stuff from the 2025 tour to France. Hope you’ve enjoyed this video.

  1. I much prefer the white version, but it doesn’t matter. Even though his chance is slim, it would be awesome to see Roglic finally winning Tour on this bike!

  2. Always funny for Roglic to ride a Tarmac, since he has a particular and uncontrollable attraction to this very material ! Anyway, crazy looking bike, hope it stays that way before it gets all scratched from crashing

  3. i have to say the past 2 years bikes & their tech have really come along, they all look really something else,
roglics is no exception, really nice looking ride.

  4. Who's makin these decisions? who's in the management committee? are these folks cyclists???? the only thing I could find online is about the UCI president and his name is David Lappartient a French politician…….

  5. Sorry Dan but you need to spin up the wheel with the crank for a good hub sound 😂 you know with your ehem experience you should know this 😂

  6. Unpopular opinion: the iconic red bull blue that was used on their F1 car looks way better than the previous ltd white. That one just looked like a regular white frame with some red bull stickers on it.

  7. Terrible freehub sound ! Friction every click ! Why wax your chain and try to make your bike quiet and lite when you can be heard a mile away ? Bearings are not an issue when your ratchet is taking away any benefits they can offer ?

  8. They put the transponder on the fork? Is this mandated by the UCI or TdF organization? This seems like one of the worst positions possible.

  9. 48/35 or an 11-44 xplr cassette. They could have been fair though and made it 53-11, just bigger than the 48-10. Or sram is about to whip out some 49t new rings (or new 11t cassettes). It would have been just as fair to inconvenience shimano who isn't making 53/39 dura ace chainrings anymore.

  10. Funny pivot on the wheel depth principle. A couple of years ago they introduced a deeper rear wheel combo for the CLX IIs.
