[Music] hi Faran welcome on your pedia Hello sir thank you so much Okay so far you are presently in uh University of Sean that is you are pursuing their masters in electronics design and technology and that is MS program this university is in Germany right yes sir So so uh Far I’ll be interacting with you today and we’ll be knowing more about MS programs in Germany and especially in public sector universities where uh tuition fee is not there most of the public universities So uh all about Germany and when students should start their you know uh applications and how to proceed forward opportunities there So all these discussion we’ll do So first I start with your background fan please tell us which part of India you are from and uh your graduation from where you have done that your graduation when did you complete it and and then we come over to this MS program okay so I’m from Delhi I did my bachelor’s from Guru Gobin Singh Indepress University Delhi and I graduated in 2021 from electrical engineering okay so uh this this is electrical engineering right You have done your graduation Okay Okay So uh presently you are in course which is electronics design and technology right yes sir So so can you tell us something about this course what is this course all about course is more towards VSI engineering So the name is electronics design and technology So more towards the micro electronics and nanotechnology So so any any branch of student can go like electrical electronics instrumentation or people can go no no no no I mean huh with electrical background knowledge they can go because they required some amount of credits like in bachelors they have students have done the analog digital and uh these subjects they have taken the credits in the bachelors so these people can join okay uh Faran tell me something about the university in which you are presently so uh information about that university where it is uh situated in Germany and uh what is this university uh tell us more about that Oh okay So the university it’s University of Zigan It’s a public university So in public university the tuition fees is not there I mean it’s semester contribution fees it will be there So the fees is around €330 per semester and uh this university is uh more famous for the meatronics engineers This at university is lies in the state of NRA NRA state and is a midsize town not small not very big but in a mid-size town so this is all about the university okay so midsize towns have got its own advantage maybe your expenditure like accommodation rent and everything may be cheap what is so compared to the big cities finding an accommodation in midsize and small town is very easy and cheap also Okay So let’s compare the accommodation price from Berlin or Hamburg where the average rent is apart from the student dom uh the private accommodation is around €600 to€700 But here you can find the student dom which starts from €270 per month Okay The overall expenditure is very less So overall your living and rent and grocery and eating and transportation that everything you can meet within 900 euro or not yeah definitely I mean within €700 I can manage here because the rent is very cheap to 70 Mhm Okay But at the same time when suppose as a student I want to work outside university because sometime you think feel like doing it maybe in the second year or something So do we get opportunities in these midsize towns for those uh for those uh for the working students especially working in companies we have to move to a bigger cities like uh Zegan is connected to Frankfurt and Cologne and one and a half hours away Frankfurt and two hours away Cologne same to do and do so we can go there and work but yeah it’s a bit difficult task to go daily and come back M yeah midsize univers midsize city it has its advantages and disadvantages also okay so you were talking about semester contribution fees in public university please tell us more about that uh basically the German public universities don’t charge any tuition fee uh like the US universities and other universities do they charge only semester contribution which includes uh the d ticket in Germany in which we can uh take any transport uh free of charge apart from the high state trains and a certain amount of uh like €144 is for the semester contribution and the other €150 is for the ticket uh train tickets and the transportation So in that €144 they just take it as a contribution to develop the university but they don’t usually charge any other fees apart from that compared to the private universities M so this transportation is your transportation to university and all Yeah I mean it’s free in all Germany it’s travel anywhere in the Germany Okay apart from the IC trains high speeded trains any train any bus any transport I can so this is you said is 300 per semester Yeah So then this 300 per semester and the rest is your own expenditure right there’s no tution fee No tition fee M okay Fran how many such public universities are there in Germany there are plenty of universities I mean uh I don’t have exact number but there are very universities I mean one should target public university obviously obviously so it is like you were you were talking about that this your university is very famous for meatronics as you said wheels and all so is there something like this like a particular public university is not charging for particular course but is charging for some another course something like that is also there No no no no it’s it’s completely free for all the technical courses apart from the uh MBA type courses management courses for the management courses there there is there there are certain amount of fees but all the technical courses in any of the field you want to study uh it’s all free free so so uh is is there something like okay this public university is famous for this course and this course is very good in this university something like this also exist yeah it exists because uh there there are certain uh tie-ups with the industries also and the professor in which the professor is doing the research So if you target if you want to have go in certain domain so one should look which professor is doing which research in that university So they can target on that basis but apart from that all universities are good they are not like ranked one one is better than other but it’s not like that it’s all good Okay Okay So so uh what we understand is like Germany is a favorite destination for Indian students and maybe students from other countries because tion fees is not there and you know we can reduce our overall expenditure of masters So now I’m coming to that part uh how much uh will be the total expenditure for pursuing masters of two years in Germany and there is some some concept of uh logged amount we have to lock some kind of amount uh beforehand before we join M’s course Please tell us more about that For the Indian uh students the for getting the visa we need a blocked account here So the amount uh that amount is for 1 year and it is around 11 lakh 50,000 somewhere approximately 11 in between 11 to 12 lakhs Okay So that is for one year and for the next year uh you again have to show the block account If you don’t have the block account you can uh show the other if you are doing any part-time work or working under any professor you can show that contract also So the overall cost for two-ear living is around 20 to 24 lakhs in between Okay M so that is if you are not earning if you are not earning Yeah But but think of it like if you are doing internship because my last year my students who joined last year now they are into internship and they are into industries they are earning also some some people have started doing some job outside the compass because they have learned Germany also So what is typically like do you need to spend 24 lakh or how much actually uh you can do your masters how much you actually spend i mean uh for the very first year you need the blog account for getting the visa Yes when you get the visa you came to Germany after that let’s say in second month onward you find a part-time job then okay any kind of job under the professor or internship or any odd job so with that you can cover your living expense so if someone is earning from the second month onwards so it will cost around for the two months like €2,000 for the starting and rest you can say the blog account and show it to the next year Okay And and what is the probability uh of getting some kind of work in the university like maybe TA maybe RA maybe lab work maybe library work any kind of work within the university What’s the probability so getting here in the university is not very easy not very hard If you know German so you can get the work like library sports okay or any other stuff But working under the professor like T and RA So professor wants you to I mean he he wants something that you can show on the table that you have you did these courses with him and you scored very great So then only he can uh give you the TAs and RAS Mhm So this thing professor want at least a semester it will require to get a TA and RA Okay So so you mean to say that if you know German as language then getting part-time activities will be easier very easy Very easy So so to what level you need to know Germany i mean there are levels of proficiency So what level you need currently the industries and other which are demanding is up to B1 and B2 and B1 level So if you are up to that level then it’s very very easily you can get the jobs and if you are coming from India and you don’t have that level and you have some basic knowledge like A1 and A2 then still you can manage some stuff but having zero knowledge then it would be very hard not not like impossible thing but it would be very hard and any idea like how much time it will take for them to come to the level of A1 A2 or something like that for A2 It usually takes 6 months okay to get to A2 then after that it depends on person’s capability of learning So in the university like there are courses they offer the coursees German language So in one semester they teaches A1.1 then another semester they teach A1.2 in one one year they teach one level So it’s better if you have A1 and A2 there in India so that you can start with A1 here Okay So the best time will be once you get selected and you decided you want to go to Germany that is the best time to start for learning this language also Exactly Exactly When you just you face that you are going to Germany now you start learning the language Okay Now no fan think of some student who wants to study in Germany but he has no family support also like 11 or 12 lakh rupees which is blocked amount is required He’s not having that Any idea any light you can throw on you know seeking it from the loan because bank say loan blockad and then study it further Any idea you have about this process yeah it is possible It is very possible I mean you just have to talk with the bank that on his behalf they can uh send the money in a blocked account which is I mean register with So if like in the US we just need to show the sanction letter but here the embassy wants that you show the funds in the account So if the bank is able to show give you the amount in the bank account so it is very easy to get the visa there Okay so so in now since 2022 uh Germany if you want to do masters then you need to APA certificate What is this APA certificate and what is the right time to get that and how much time it takes okay for APS basically APS verifies all your degree iss and bachelor’s degree all the certificate that these are genuine and athletic certificate So during 2022 and 23 it will take around 7 months 8 months up to an year to get the but now the time is reduced because there are more employees hired more employees for that So it will take around 3 to four months at least Okay Okay So to get that APS certificate and if you have the APS it is val valid for the whole lifetime So if you are planning to come to Germany so it’s better to have APS as soon as possible Okay And before APS you need to have ISS also with you right yeah I is with ISS and uh you can apply I with score to the AP certificate So what bands of ISS will be sufficient to get admission in various universities uh some universities basically is ranges from 6 to uh 8 9 so but to be on the safer side uh having 6.5 is sufficient okay 6.5 in different sections most of the t9 will ask you seven band but in between 6.5 to 7 it’s it will be fine you get 90% of the university okay so uh Other than this ISS and AP certificate what other documents are required at the time of application uh for a at the time of you mean at the time of university application application yeah so uh you need AP certificate is certificate letter of recommendations from professor your letter of motivation these are the main documents which you need and then obviously degree transcript certificate okay so so now I’m I’m coming to uh different side of our discussion uh why somebody should come to Germany why he should think of German education okay uh if someone don’t have funds and want to study abroad get a good education because German engineering is very good yes so if they want to experience that and don’t have funds for the US and other English people so they should target Germany apart from that the German market is very big compared to other European nations So you can land a good job a decent amount of pay not as high as the US but a decent amount of pay to have a decent life Work life balance is here and you can enjoy your life here Okay So fan can we say that German as a country offers you balance of the things like uh cheaper education almost 50% of what you can think of getting from other countries Second quality education We don’t compromise quality especially for engineering domains as you said Third is very good job market because it’s a big economy also and work life balance in the job I was uh seeing that once you graduate once you complete your masters then for job visa I mean employment searching visa I think some 18 months is given and uh you can get jobs also after that and if you get job there’s a scope of permanent residency also So it’s a combination of the things Can we say something like that yes Yes Exactly So it is not like cheaper destinations are not there in the Europe itself There are countries which may provide you even as cheap as Germany But then at the same time getting jobs and getting settlement and many factors It is not a one factor It’s a combination of the factors because one of the very uh good universities I mean really good uh universities are in Germany Yes Yes Yes Correct So we can say it’s a combination of things right it’s a combination of all them Yeah H So many students keep on you know worrying they keep on saying that okay So what is your answer to that basically it depends on your skills and the most important German language if you have I mean German language Okay Okay Okay So so now coming to once you completed your masters discuss 18 months time period in which you can find out the job Once you start doing job there then what are the future uh opportunities to stay in that country permanent on permanent basis uh for the permanent basis after you land a job there there is a blue uh blue card EU blue card people who are working there’s a threshold salary I exactly don’t remember it’s 45,000 peranom something like that So if you are employed by any of the company then uh they’ll give you the PR permanent residency and after five years you have a B1 B2 level of German then you can apply for the citizenship and you can get citizenship in five to six years So there is it will not be very problem for them M uh one of the other doubt which is coming to the minds of the students now international students including students from India is when they’re exploring opportunities abroad now you must be knowing that geopolitical situation world over nowadays is like okay do we accept you know do we welcome international students or after they graduate they are good to go back to their native places or opportunities thereafter so keeping all those factors in mind how do you rate German as a country for education Germany is still will take on the first I mean um Germany is still welcoming students they are not like after graduating you have to move back to your country no they need employees whether it’s a blue color job or a white collar job they need employees because the population is getting older here so they need to pay the uh pensions to the retired person someone has to pay taxes right so they need employees and they need people So if you have the right language then you can they they welcome you Okay Okay So so uh as you said it’s a very good country for engineering education that we are very sure So when we say engineering education are you talking about all the domains of engineering like maybe civil engineering maybe biotechnology maybe electrical engineering mechanical engineering everything you are talking about it’s it’s yes it’s everything I mean there are for the chem chemistry departments are also here in my university and biotechnology nanotechnology you any number of courses are offered by so we can say stem domain science technology engineering mathematics the STEM domain is wonderful right wonderful yeah okay know fan coming to this admission seasons uh what I understand is there are two admission seasons in Germany like summers or winter or whatever you call it please throw some light on these seasons Like we know in India also largely the admission season is what will start in August now for which the process starts in March April and August may largely admission takes place in M’s courses though in the winter also there are some admissions which are lesser in number but still there are there please tell us about the German universities same goes with the German university the major intake is winter intake uh which is October starts from October and the uh admission and the university opens uh admission I mean the courses in huge number of amount compared to the summer uh summer intake So for the October intake some depends on the universities and the course deadline but in general the deadline will open uh around January 1st January to April May it goes to April and May So they they will result out the little I mean they will send the admission letter by May June May June around June they started giving admissions so you can apply for the visa for the summer intake for the April intake uh they opened uh portal application portal around November from November till February they open the portal and in that domain you can apply and uh get the admission but it totally values in which university you’re applying and in which course you are applying because in the same university there are different deadlines for the different courses Yes understood Okay So so uh what I understood what you said is that for the major admission season October you said that means applications will open up in October and they’ll keep on uh you know these portals will keep on uh admitting students till month of January February is that what you said for the October it will start uh uh around December So no you you saying join or what like now we are making making this interactive session on 28th of June Now tell me some student who is to go to German and he’s still in final year So what is the timeline for him okay for them uh he start I mean the university application will open by October By October or November the university application will start opening So I mean if he’s in final semester he can start with his APS and IS correct by November by November then he started applying in the universities with his provisional and other certificates So by the time he graduate in March he in his hand on degree So with that degree he enrolled into the university and do with the va process and by October he will be here in Germany Okay So I I was going through the timeline of Arasmus Mand scholarship also that starts somewhere in September Arasmus Mand scholarship it starts in September and you join or October and you join in September next year That means if you want to join in September 2026 you start your process in October 2025 It is similar to that what you said right it is similar to Yeah Okay Now now Fan what about the candidate who is already graduate now he’s already graduated in 2025 now he’s looking for that okay I’m ready to go to Germany when can I apply okay now currently there are couple of universities might have open the application for the summer intake for April so he can apply for that and uh for the April the admission letter will be out by uh January January and February so after that he can do the visa process so one one can be uh the sessions starting in April and another will be the sessions starting in October September October right but the major intake is October October universities will be okay And suppose I want to apply in October or November 2025 then I should start my APS and ISS now I mean in the month of June July it’s the correct time just prepare for the ISS and by the next month ISS will be done and as soon as you get the result of ISS apply for the AP certificate and when the while waiting for the AP certificate you can start working on your LS and SOP and university shortlisting So by November you will start you will have all the documents and started applying Okay You know as far as l is concerned many students uh you know keep on asking this question that uh how many l are required and uh will the same professor keep on providing you the ls who can give ls so please throw some light on l requirements uh in Germany l is bit different in the US like in US the mail link the link will be provided to the professor and he’ll fill but in Germany you at least require two LS and a letter head of your university and you just scan that and upload two and at max three three L is more than sufficient just take the L you don’t need to bother the professor again just take the handwritten u I mean print it on the letterhead of the university then you just apply on the and as many unities as possible as university again yeah and and is there any format of I mean what is to be written in l and uh it’s just professor will tell about your qualities and just usual which we for the US and other it will not like mail will go to the students and all professors and all like you take letterhead and then you can use it quite simple then quite simple yeah okay so for the Arasmus they will uh for the Arasmus Mundus program they will send link to professor for that uh you have to check and but in the German university they don’t need to professor don’t need to upload anything you just do yeah okay now coming to university life you are a part of university now and you are living there so tell us something about the university life how you have graduated from India also so how are the universities in Germany university is very good I mean uh in India apart from the IITs the top tier one university They have some practical and good machines there But from the tier 2 and tier three universities they don’t basically the lab is not great So here we are working we are doing studies also and as simultaneously there are labs so we can go and hands on it’s not like that professor will teach you do you have to do this this uh stuff in the lab but it’s your own choice if you want you can there are equipments M m okay okay okay so so so that means the infrastructure is well developed and all so I was also asking you like uh flexibility in hours and timings and weekends working on Saturday Sundays so you are a research scholar now you are doing your masters so uh what is the kind of you know your uh daily uh routine um including weekends Germany university is very flexible uh I mean in depends on how many courses you have taken in that So usually uh the lecture is for four hours per day and the rest of the day is yours whether you do if you do any part-time work then you can go for 2 hours or 3 hours for that and rest of the time you have your own you can go out I mean we have the digital ticket so we can go in the nearby cities and see the German so on the weekends Saturday Sunday the university is It’s only from Monday to Friday and Saturday Sunday everything is closed in Germany So on Saturday only go for the shopping groceries and other stuff Mhm So Sundays even shops are closed Huh even shops are closed Yeah Okay Only will be there open So we can say you study and you work only five days a week Five days a week Yeah That is strictly followed That is strictly followed Wonderful So so now uh Far now coming to uh you know this universities applications So as we know in other countries like US we apply so there’s a cost incurred on application What is the situation in Germany like do you need to pay at the time of application fee or something uh it depends on which university you’re applying but okay like 60% of university if the application is on their own portal so it’s free of course they won’t charge you anything but if they the application is via uni assist there is a uh third party unis which check all your documents and the application is complete then only it will forward it to the university So the for the first application uh it will charge around €75 and after that for the second third any number of you want then every application €30 So it goes like this if the university has its own portal and they are willing that you apply on our portal So it’s free of cost So how many applications do you think this third party route uh you have to follow i mean if it depends if you are very confident enough that the university which you have applied that you will get the admission in those so you hardly applied two or three by uni assist for the side like I I did not applied by uni assist I applied only on the university’s portal so I got on there only so there is no fees incurred on that right and how many university do you advise students to apply uh one should apply at least 7 to 10 universities at least because the competition nowadays is getting more and more So your CGP and or the others profile should be overall looks good So in order to be in the safe side you should target like uh top universities mid universities and the lower universities Okay So all categories you should cater to Yeah Okay So Faren I think more or less we have covered everything anything which I must have missed and you want to add for the you know everything I mean everything is I think we have covered but if someone is listening who is in his bachelor’s during his bachelor like second year or third year if want to come then that person should focus more on his grades because in German university they focus more on the grades higher the grades higher the chances of your getting into the public universities along with some if you have any research work or any research publication add on cherry on the top So focus on the grades and who are already graduated or about to graduate they should focus on the German language So this job experience has its own advantage in MS selection Uh job experience uh to a certain limit yes but not very much If you have a good grades uh that is more than sufficient Okay you’ll get it Okay So I think uh we have discussed more or less all these aspects and uh uh again let me thank you for the time you spared and we wish you all the very best for your academic journey further and we hope you’ll do wonderful and you’ll get wonderful opportunities there Thank you Thank you so much sir Thank you [Music]
