Jasper Philipsen is officially out of the 2025 Tour de France after a dramatic crash during Stage 3 from Valenciennes to Dunkirk. The incident unfolded about 60 kilometers before the finish line, during an intense intermediate sprint. Things went south when Laurenz Rex and Bryan Coquard collided, forcing Coquard into Philipsen’s path. Philipsen hit the ground hard, landing on his shoulder.

He was quickly attended to by medical staff, but the damage was too much — visible abrasions and what looked like a possible collarbone fracture. Just two days earlier, Philipsen had won the opening stage and wore the yellow jersey. He was also leading the points classification in the green jersey.

His sudden withdrawal shakes up the green jersey competition. Biniam Girmay now takes the lead with 63 points, followed by Jonathan Milan and teammate Mathieu van der Poel. Alpecin-Deceuninck will now rely on Kaden Groves and van der Poel to lead the sprints for the rest of the Tour.

It’s a heartbreaking end to what started as a very promising race for Philipsen.
