Bike Packing – Flensburg to Skelde, Denmark – no commentary

In early summer last year I set off on a solo bikepacking trip from Flensburg, Germany heading north toward the Danish coast at Skelde. Riding alone through the open countryside and windy coastal roads offered the kind of solitude that both comforts and challenges you.

Autumn 2023 had brought Storm Babet, one of the most violent storm floods in recent memory, crashing across the Baltic Sea. The German and Danish coastlines were hit hard. Villages along the shorelines were partially submerged, trees torn from their roots, and cliffs gave way under relentless pressure from the sea.

As I approached the Skelde coast, I passed through the remnants of what used to be cozy seaside homes you can see at 5:23
